Imagine how tough it is for Kirkland playing behind an Ivorian ( French speaking ? ), a Paraguayan ( Spanish ), a Hunduran ( Spanish ) and a Dutchman ( who admittedly probably speaks better English than most ). No wonder the lad looks bewildered. Team unity ??

Interesting to see that Scotland has now signed for Ipswich and said that the atmosphere at Wigan wasn’t g reat because there were lots of French and Spanish speaking players. This is getting to the heart of the problem isn’t it ? Play a really complex system with players who don’t understand each other and who don’t like each other.

Roberto – you brought this mad mixture of players together and got them playing this mad system. Make it simple- or accept we are in for a season of humiliation with more goals against than supporters.

We went to Spurs without him last year. That went well didn’t it ? Any idea where Erik Edman is now ?

How many goals are conceded just after 1/2 time ? The team talks must be something else. Can’t decide if it’s the inability of Bob to motivate at 1/2 time or a lack of fitness that leads to so many second half thumpings. Whichever way you look at it we know who’s to blame.

Agree that SC will make a little difference in that he will communicate but the faffing around will still not lead to goals. Reducing the flood into our own net is onw thing, getting points is another. Things will not be Ok under Bob. And Newcastle’s win is another nail because theoretcially they should be battling it out with us at the bottom. If they are beating Villa 6-0 then clearly they are unlikely to be.

Agree. The system is far too complicated. It clearly doesn’t work. Chelsea were quite happy to watch the passing knowing full well there was little chance of them being hurt. He should go with dignity if he is isn’t going to change the system – and I don’t think he will. It would be easier if the players were ignoring his instructions but they aren’t. They keep trying to play the RM way. He can’t blame them. Keep it Simple Stupid !

Oddly enough I thought N’Zogbia did OK. It’ll be his last game for Wiagn though.

in reply to: what will it take #43678

Agree completely. I can live with relegation – blimey I supported the Latics in the Cheshire League ! However the humiliations aren’t necessary. If RM had a clue he’d change the system. It’s a disaster. Water up above his ears now.

in reply to: Doesnt feel the same club #43109

It isn’t the same club that’s why. Totally different funding system. Totally dependent upon overseas TV viewers. The money raised from local support is tiny compared to the TV money. The more overseas players the more overseas interest.

in reply to: IF RM GOES #43108

Bring in anyone who understands that the first thing you do is sort out the defence. It’s so obvious. And yet RM doesn’t get it. Suspect he might be an excellent coach at a top side – but let him practice somewhere else other than Wigan.

in reply to: King Roberto #43106

I can’t see an argument in his favour any more. The system doesn’t work without very, very good players. There’s lots of passing but masses of goals conceded and very few scored ( and the ones we score are hardly ever from free flowing football). It needs some common sense. The squad he has is full of able footballers but they are confused as hell and it leads to chaos. Whelan is far from daft and RM will go very soon. 5 or more from Chelsea would probably be enough.

    This is all very painful.

in reply to: Sold down the River #43105

Completely out of his depth. Might not just be greed that makes players so keen to leave – maybe they realise he can’t do the job and don’t want to be associated with the disasters that await.

Was talking to a Spanish bloke on holiday and we chatted about football for a few mins. I told him we had a Spanish boss and that he modelled the style of play on Barcelona. He looked puzzled and said, with a smile, ” Without Xavi and Iniesta that sounds foolish”. I didn’t tell him about the 9-1 and the 8-0.

Optimistic for the year ? I really, really want to be.

    in reply to: Tactics #33320

JamesC – I thought too much about it ? Sorry about that my friend. I’ll put myself in half wit mode so that we have more in common.

    in reply to: Tactics #33130

The tactics don’t prevent goals, nor do they lead to goals being scored. Surely they are, therefore, bad tactics as we are a football team and the purpose of football is to score goals and not concede them.

How many goals have been created by the genius tactics of RM ? Very few. Would Steve Bruce’s tactics have created the same number of goals – I’m sure they would even though they were simpler and arguably more primitive.

The lad means well but he doesn’t learn and is treated as a bit of a jerk by most other managers I’m afraid. Pains me to say it. I’d love to see Holland 1974 being created over the summer but it won’t happen. We’ll sign players who can pass but aren’t wanted elsewhere because they aren’t good enough. I fear more terrible drubbings.

Have a fine summer everyone. I need to not think about this for a bit.
