The cynic in me suggests that:

    It is :

A: A story engineered by his agent, to get him a move.

    or

B: A story engineered by the club, to attract a bid.

    It was actually:

    C. A story engineered by his agent to get him a huge pay rise.

Sunderland wont buy him. As others say on this site, he aint that good, and one “wondergoal” apart, hasnt set the world on fire. We’ve already got one very average Left Back thanks!

It was a pre-season friendly FFS.

Anyway, the number of people in that picture looks to be about twice the number that travelled to White Hart Lane last season for a competitive FA Cup tie.

You really shouldnt start threads on attendances and travelling support – its not exactly something the football-loving Wigan public are very good at.

After 12 years of Labour rule Wigan has turned into ghetto.

Benefit scroungers, breeding like rabbits whilst the hard working majority get shafted!

I left Wigan in 1986, when it started to become a ghetto. Unemployment was >3 million and there were plenty of benefit scroungers and single parents knocking around. Over the next 10 years, I returned to visit my family and found myself being ashamed of my home town. It was a sh_it-hole. Vicky Pollard-style single mums chavving it round town. Dog muck littering the pavement outside Mesnes Park (and some fella who would spray paint round the turd to highlight it!!).

The downward spiral started under a TORY Govt in the early 80s. Wigan wasnt paradise on 30 April 1997. It was well on the way to being what it is today.

If your game survives then you will have no other football match within a 50 mile radius (and thats a 3rd division match at Leeds).

So, not only will you get plenty of air-time on MOTD, but also plenty of time could be spent discussing crowd figures by Lawrenson, Hansen & co. Fortunately, ITV cover the FA Cup and they dont have the same type of pundit that the BBC have.

But then again, with no other football matches taking place in NW England, it would be reasonable to think that your crowd may well be higher than normal…..

    I look forward to 10.30pm tomorrow……..

and before anyone calls me a JCL my first game was in the 1978-79 season.

Not there in the non-league days?

    Feckin Part Timer!! ;)

It could have been worse – at least Torquay v Brighton got a lower attendance.

I think Bolton will beat Sunderland on saturday & might get there 1st clean sheet all season, but you never know ……….

What on earth makes you think that?

A team full of cloggers, possibly managed by a bloke whose previous side picked up just 1 point out of 30 from their away games so far, against a side who have only lost at home to Chelsea and Villa, and have already beaten Liverpool & Arsenal.

    Great Link!

    My favourite bit….

“The Cup has been devalued – not only do top teams field weakened line-ups, but so do teams like Newcastle

    Priceless!!!

in reply to: player sales #17042

Whilst the minimum price for adults is set at £15, there is no minimum for OAPs & kids – the ruling merely states that both clubs have to agree on it.

So, why charge them £5. If they had been £1, or even free, then the attendance may well have been slightly higher.

    Notts County v Forest Green:

    Adults £15, Conc £10, U16 £3.

Why would I take the p*ss? You came back from 1-0 down to beat a Premiership side 4-1 and progress to the next round of the cup.

Absolutely nothing about that result I can take the p*ss about.

in reply to: No Trains on Boxing Day??!! #15990

Its not a new thing. In about 1984, myself and Mr Ricketts decided to catch the Everton Supporters’ Coach to watch Sunderland play at Goodison on Boxing Day.

What we didnt realise was that we would be locked in at the end of the game for long enough to make us miss our coach home. We managed to get a bus to the outskirts of Liverpool, but then we were left with no option but to get on the railway line and walk back to Wigan, safe in the knowledge that we wouldnt get run over because no trains were running!

Fortunately I was the recipient of a new pair of trainers for Christmas!

in reply to: So where are the Wigan Gritting lorries? #15692

Its not just Wigan where the gritters have been either invisible or just not deployed. I live on the border of Rutland and Lincolnshire, and we have copped for between 6 and 8 inches of snow since Friday morning. Not a gritted road in sight apart from the A1.

Incidentally, Rutland Council Tax on average is the highest outside London.
