One club losing ground on their promotion rivals and facing a huge fixture pile-up versus another club who have a horrendous run-in to avoid relegation from the £100million+ greed league. The winner has another fixture added to their diary to cram in goodness knows when and gets to face either Spurs, Chelsea or Man Utd in their home city ;-).

I can see a lot of own goals in this one! ;)

If spectators (i’m loathe to call them “fans”) hadn’t encroached on the pitch, then none of that shennannekins would have happened. As proud as I was of the way the Latics beat the best team in Europe, the post-match incidents, especially playing Oasis tunes, were inflammatory and was a direct attempt at rubbing City’s nose in it.

I hope those who encroached get fines/bans, that the damage to the North Stand is paid for by Manchester City, and that the guy who chooses the post-match tunes is removed from his duties forthwith.

My worry egg, is if the new owner becomes bored or we as a club fail to meet his ambitions. He pulls out & leaves us in a lot of financial poop that we cant afford to repay.

Mr Ellis Short, owner of Sunderland Football Club, fits that category. You go from Jermain Defoe to James Vaughan leading the line, and from Jordan Pickford to Jason Steele in goal. Still, there’s always Jack Rodwell on £70k a week dictating play in midfield – except he refuses to play.

Why do the fans let tham get away with all this piss taking. Are they not livid and bombarding the club and the RL about it?

There was some anger Horc – particularly after a pretty shit season of watching uninspiring rugby. The club sold it to ST holders as there would be no “annual rise”, when in actual fact they had used shrink-flation, as there was less product for the same money. Frankly, after last season, any request for more money without a cast-iron guarantee for better on-field performances was a joke. Many (including myself), thought the Warriors would be starting 2018 with a new head coach. We will have to wait and see as to how it has gone down with fans, as the first home game isn’t until 2 March. There hasn’t been a regular season league attendance at the DW below 10K for almost 13 years, but the performances last season may well have that record broken unless the entertainment level increases.

That said, the first two games have shown a completely different Wigan to the fayre that was on offer for most of last season. In 2017 we won our first four league games and a World Club Challenge, so I’ll reserve judgement for now!

Every week my smugness gets even greater knowing that I have Aguero in my Fantasy Football team at work and my nearest challengers don’t – they have either Lukaku or Firmino (we all have Kane).

My lead just keeps getting bigger and bigger with every sensational strike and is now over 100 points!

(and there’s a fair bit of cash at stake for the winner too)

Yet the champions don’t come from either state.

Pointless exercise but they will say that 9k of that crowd didnt come from the uk and we have got 2 main sponsors from it so maybe it was worthwhile.

Not a fan of taking any home game away from wigan though.

I agree. We are not going to attract fans or sponsors from Australia in sufficient quantities to justify any future trips, but if the RFL want to play a game “on the road” in Australia, then that’s fine by me – just make sure the next one involves any side except Wigan giving up home advantage and a home game on the Season Ticket card. We’ve done more than our fair share of expansion efforts – maybe Leeds or Saints could have a go now…

That said, two points is two points. I’d like to see the reserves turn out next week so when we play Warrington in a fortnight, there is only the jetlag to contend with!

How did they disrespect us? They played their first 11 both times.

I said “underestimate”. It may have been their first 11 in 2013, but that 11 collectively didnt turn up. Mancini had lost the dressing room and was on his way out.

In the 2nd game, Hart, Kompany, Dzeko, Silva, Milner & Kolarov (all first team reguulars) were all subs, so I would refute your suggestion that Pellagrini played his strongest 11.

Pep is a different kind of manager that doesn’t allow his players to underestimate the opposition. That said, it will still be a great game to say “I was there”.

Anyone who loves football and is within a 5 mile radius of Wigan over that weekend should get down to the DW. The way Man City play these days is awesome, and it would be worth £20 of anyone’s money to see them live.

I doubt they will underestimate the opposition like 2013 and 2014. I don’t think it is in Pep’s DNA to disrespect any opposition. He comes across as a bloody good manager who wants to win every game, and wants to win it playing football. The way Warnock’s team tried to kick lumps out of them was disgusting, but he brushed it off like the gent he is.

    Enjoy the game fellas!

    Can’t complain at 15 quid…..

Some do. Bullitt’s having a right old moan on Vital!
So you do stalk him?!!
He posts on every thread on there multiple times. Nobody can have a decent conversation on there without his bile spoiling it. There’s some league table of posts and he’s almost double anyone else.

That said, he must have some serious dirt on the moderators on there to still be able to post.

Correct. I don’t know the guy – i’m just pointing out that he’s in his mid-30s and thus wouldn’t have moved in the same circles as many on this board, who seem to not accept anyone as a true fan unless they went in the non-league days.

Maybe they can look him up and have a chat with him at Southend or Bristol Rovers next month?

We know Jason Taylor is, can’t remember seeing the other guy at Springy

As he was at Uni until 1999, then he is a (little!) bit younger than Jay, and probably wasn’t even born when the Latics entered the league. Is that an acceptable excuse for not being at Frickley away in 1976?

    Long trip to Plymouth.

I remember August 1983 when I used a family railcard to take 4 people down to Plymouth for the day. In those days, “kids” travelled for a quid and adults for half price. Total cost for 1 adult and 4 “kids” was around £20. Charged the “kids” a tenner each and the profit paid for my entrance and fish & chips in Plymouth!

Just checked a database and the game was 0-0. I Remember nothing about the game, but I’ve always remembered the fish & chips!

Football fan in “he was shit anyway” shocker after player leaves his club

    Not quite:

https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/vaughan.1383017/ – Thread started based on his “effort” in the pre-season games.

After a month of league games where he got no better and spent most of his time on his arse – https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/vaughan.1390388/

Interesting that there is no “the club wish him well for the future” comment. The guy was cack from day 1, egotistical and alienated the fans with his ear-cupping after scoring for the first time in a dozen games at Burton. I say “scoring” – actually the ball hit him about a yard from goal and went in.

He may be a bit of use this season off the bench, but will be out of his depth again next season.
