I am going but I have to say I am not really looking forward to it, would not be at all surprised if we are outnumbered. I don’t blame Latics fans for not going.I think the attitude of a lot of the Wanderers fans has been shocking, they need to calm down a bit .After all ,we are not their local rivals.
We all know about Maurice Lyndsey but I seem to remember Jack Robinson was not exactly complimentary towards us and I suppose it was actions rather than words with Mr Lenegan.
Hope you are right Egg , but I was just making the point before it happens ,if any of their fans do end up in the Wigan End they can’t complain if they are not given the friendliest of welcomes and before they say anything can you imagine the reaction if Wigan fans went in the home end at the Reebok ( or whatever it is now called )stadium.
I think you are right with us getting in the league in 1978. Before that we were plucky little non league Latics who made a name for ourselves in FA Cup ,very often supported by the Rugby club and their supporters.I remember they used to put good luck Wigan Athletic messages in the Post and Chronicle and we used to do the same when they had big Challenge Cup matches. When we got in the league their attitude changed towards us ,we became a real threat and they did not like it.Things have never been the same since and we all know the history and the derogatory comments made towards us by their various Chairmen. We could get on now but they have to accept that we are equals ,we are not plucky little non league Latics anymore.
Cue loads of comments from the likes Barstardly FC and Noblot fans along lines of “what is the point as they never get sat on ?”.
On a more serious note and especially given our recent history i really cannot see the point of wasting money replacing seating that certainly doesn’t warrant it at the moment in my view pink seats or not.
Not sure of the cost of this but surely the money would be better spent on the now smaller training ground to provide good facilities to keep our successful youth set up going.
Surely this is a solid point especially after watching Lang the other night give a brilliant man of the match performance and whom cost us nothing and is surely worth a couple of million quid now especially in todays inflated market.
Watch the pennies Talal and spend them to improve and enrich the wonderful youth set up first and foremost.
After over twenty years with not a lot spent on it the stadium does need some TLC. I have a feeling the seats will be paid for by sponsors , who for the privilege will have their name all over them ( in blue and white ).
Why would I? I sit in a white seat for rugby games. I used to sit in a blue one. At Central Park I sat on a wooden one. Really don’t care. Why would I?
So why did the Warriors immediately change the seats to red as soon as they got control of the Robin Park arena if it was no big deal ?
Seats can be pink and green for all I care, as long as both teams are winning games.
So from a Warriors fans perspective you will have no issue if the seats are all blue and white ? I know when Lenegan was trying to buy the ground my big fear was that he would turn everything at the DW cherry and white. As a Latics fan with no interest in the Warriors I would have found it very difficult to attend home games ,so the colour of the seats is an issue. I still think there is more to this story ,there must have been discussions with the Rugby and our new Chairman is no mug. He say he wants to bring the clubs closer together why would he alienate the Warriors fans ?
It does not really add up to me.He says he wants more unity between the two clubs and then says he is going to install all blue and white seats. We will all be made up as Latics fans but the Warriors fans will be fuming, hardly uniting the two clubs. It could just be a ploy to make the Rugby increase their peppercorn rent.
Just hope he gets on with the job and keeps his head down. Can’t be doing with all the baggage that comes with this fella. When we have a game near Rememberence Sunday and the team have poppies on their shirts the best outcome for all concerned is that he develops a mysterious injury and can’t play.It will stop all the controversy and negative publicity.
We were lucky on Saturday but our luck was out last night.Should have won the game comfortably .If we can completely outplay one of the promotion favourites the signs look good for the rest of the season. This side will only get better as the season progresses . Let’s now see what we can do at Charlton.Up the tics!
Our entire history I take it you mean the years we have been in the football league .It’s a bit difficult trying to get promoted to the Championship from the Northern Premier League. We were prevented from entering the football league until 1978 by the old boys network (re election ) otherwise ,I have no doubt our record would be better than Rotherham’s.
