Just this minute got back home. Great win, marred only by the officals & a slight bit of complacency (i thought) on our part to allow them back into the game.
I wonder if this thread is filled with 3 pages of posts like the portsmouth one was after monday.
Technically we didn’t play 4-4-2 when Haworth, Liddell & Barlow were playing for us. It was a front 3 with Liddell given a licence to roam
Just saying ;)
Best strike force I have seen at Latics.
Now now egg. You are taking controversy to a whole new level. You saying that strike force was better than ellington & roberts? Now there was a partnership.
Donny, grigg has himself stated that he prefers to play as a lone striker as opposed to being in a partnership.
Nonsense. He would be better in a 4-4-2 with a big lump of a centre forward who can win headers as the ball is pumped forward from the keeper and the centre backs.
I remember it well super stu, when the likes of bobby campbell (rip) would knock it down for the likes of paul jewell to score. Likewise, when the lazy simon howarth would do the same for you or sir andy liddell. Perhaps your right. Bring it back.
Yes i know tyledsley. But mine & stu’s joke was about the big guy knocking it onto the little guy.
It proves a point that following our win over oldham, only 10 people posted a comment. Lose a game however, & we are now into the 3rd page of why we need to play 442, we have blown our chances, cook not up to it etc, etc..
Are some of our so called fans ACTUALLY waiting for us to lose? I bet they’re sat there waiting by the keyboard foaming & drooling at the mouth ready to post the usual drivel. I bet said people hate it when we score a late winner, or we have played that well & totally dominated the game.
The simple question i ask is, Why so negative?
A true football man either on the playing field or as a summariser. RIP!

Yet again struggled against the better sidesI had been waiting for this one.
But truth is, we never struggled though. We had a penalty decision go against us, that wasn’t a penalty. And their keeper pulled off top class saves where he tipped powell’s effort onto the bar, & a point blank save from grigg.
It wasn’t the best performance i’ve seen. Passes went completely astray. I agree with everyone about massey & that powell should do the simple rather than try the complicated at times. And jacobs needs a rest.
I was only 6 at the time, but i’m led to believe that jeff wright was ahead of everyone else within the team during his tenure at latics.
Tony kelly had skill & could take a mean free kick.
Jeff had one huge problem, he was so much better than the rest of his team mates.
I do remember even as a child, the people who were stood around me would often get frustrated with him. I suppose he might be regarded the original jordi gomez.
On that note, i know gomez spent most of his time with us in the premier league, but he also played in the championship. So he must count as well.

As the great philosophers of the 1980’s haircut 100 once said “its a fan, fan, fan fantastic day.”
Many twists & turns & bumpy rides from now to the end of the season.
Interesting points dnr. I was too young to remember our election to the league, but i did make my bow at our very first game in the league in the 78 season.
Footballing wise we were poor today. Surrendered lots of possession and played hoof-ball. That being said it worked and was no doubt the best option on a poor surface. So credit to Cook’s plan B when playing on bad pitches. That proves to me how strong the depth is within the squad to change personel & the style of football. Credit also must be given to cook for that.
Great win last night. But how come no one ever comes on to praise the lads for their win. Had we have lost last night, this site would have had a meltdown.
