I’ll stand corrected here but I believe Maynard was the only striker with whom the club held talks in January. He turned us down or we weren’t impressed with him enough to meet his demands, so it didn’t happen. Given his strike rate so far at West Ham I’d say we made the right decision. Other players will come along who we will sign. Some will be shite some may not be.
I know the reason was because he wanted assurances that if Wigan were relegated his pay would remain the same.At the 11th hour he was informed that the club insisted on a 25% pay cut if this should happen. Why should he sign for a team that through no fault of his were looking likely to drop and be expected to be penalized financially .If the club wanted him a reasonable request like that should have been readily accepted. He would have been an excellent acquisition for our championship charge should we have gone down.I can assure you that thes eare the facts but I am not at liberty to reveal how I know this.
But they are not facts are they? They are merely your opinions based on what you’ve been told. How do you or anyone else know he would have been an “excellent acquisition”? I don’t see him banging in the goals at West Ham.
On the subject of reasonable requests is it not more reasonable for a club to expect players to take a pay cut in the event of, admittedly, collective failure in the form of relegation. I’m sure had it been a promotion players would be looking for a pay increase, which is what’s most likely been offered to him at West Ham.
I also happen to know – not at liberty to reveal how I know, of course – that his attitude and demeanour during the transfer negotiations left a lot to be desired; a case of what can Wigan Athletic do for me rather than what can I do for Wigan Athletic.
Just the type of personality and attitude you want in the dressing room.
Ok then Sammy, read my post and answer the question please !
I assume you mean this question:-
If we stay up will we have the same strike force minus Rodders ?If we stay up or go down I’m sure “Rodders” will be replaced. My argument is that Maynard isn’t a suitable replacement.

Just the type of personality and attitude you want in the dressing room.Nothing like having nil ambition …What do you expect the ambitions of the club should be?
And the question isn’t manager or playing staff specific so please don’t go on a tirade against Martinez, his assistants and players.I thought Gomez was bad
I thought Gomez had a decent game today. Held the ball up well and set up some promising attacks. More effective than McArthur and McCarthy.
The very fact that you state Gomez had a better game than those two just shows how poor our midfield actually is !!
For a good part of that game our midfield bossed their midfield. I don’t think Gomez is good enough as a Premiership player but this incessant criticism of him is tiresome, unnecessary and more often than not inaccurate.
The whole of the starting mid field today was shit !!
I congratulate you on your well-reasoned and constructive argument.I thought Gomez was bad

It could be worse. We could have Bolton’s home record!
Well that’s Victor’s excuse out of the way.
What about the rest of them?
Don’t know, mate. Only had a brief conversation with someone who went. Didn’t go in to details.Surprised this actually took place. Was it before or after his chin-wag with Dave?
14450 home fans turned up, all of which paid for their seat.No they didn’t.
Decided to have a Galloways meat pie and buttered barm joe today for dinner (that’s lunch for posh people). Now the last time I tried this combination, some weeks ago, it cost me £1.50. Today I was charged £1.77, an 18% increase.
I think there’s some exploitation going on here.
But he didn’t have to criticise the team selection, just say he was not happy with the performance and would be having words with Martinez to determine how things can be improved.
In my opinion he’s made Bobby’s position untenable.
Quite why Whelan has gone public with this is beyond me. Whatever your opinion of Martinez I fail to see how criticising the manager’s team selection serves any useful purpose or helps the club’s current predicament in any way. Are we now to assume that every team put out until the end of the season has been picked by Whelan?
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
We are shite now right ? But we have always been shite yeah ? Where should we really be ? I say League One with the odd chance of going up to the Championship ( Our Premiership ) and then some good old scraps and the odd good cup run to keep us interested ! :)You do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on here defending yourself, so don’t think the disclaimer that you are drunk excuses you from posting even more shite.
