How am I not surprised by that post.

Now the lightsiders discuss tactics and selection “with someone from the club before KO” and they told you “Diame wasn’t starting due to feeling ill that morning” I assume that same person then rushed to tell you Diame “apparently was improving as KO approached” just so you could post it on here if one of those nasty darksiders dared to question why he didnt play.

If you hurry up nominations for this years Whitbread prize are still open.

      Blah dee f**ing blah.
You think you know better that the people who run the football club?
I’m sure Martinez sits there prior to kick-of thinking, “I’ll tell you what, Diame’s raring to go but I’ll not play him because everybody expects I should play him so I’ll deliberately piss everybody off and not play him.

I was brought up a Liverpool supporter. Being born and raised in Liverpool in a “Red fanily” helped.

I had a Kop season ticket. I went to Cup Finals. I ended up (drunk) in the tunnel somehow in Munich when they were knocked out of the UEFA Cup one year. I went to Rome when they/we won the European Cup for the first time.

I then moved out to Garswood and stopped watching Liverpool for many years, except for the odd game. When my son came to an age for watching football live, even though his normal Christmas presents had been Liverpool shirts, I took him along to Springfeld Park. It was far easier than taking an 8-year-old onto the Kop. Liverpool were winning everything in sight. Wigan got relegated for the only time in their history that season. But despite that a love for the Latics grew that has not changed.

He and I are fully commited Latics supporters now. I was interviewed by Sky Sports outside Anfield a few years ago, in full blue and white “gear”. I have my own site, that I set up when we were in the 4th Division as I call it.

I now despise what Liverpool FC have become. Whinging martyrs. Not at all the team I supported so many years ago. I certainly would never go back to supporting them, and have no intention whatsoever of changing allegiance again. There is no reason to.

        Dead easy answer.

But the difference between us, my friend, is that I know what I’m taking about.

Fair play to you GL but I do think you are the exception that proves the rule.

If you are going to post this story in installments when should we expect episode 2?

And just to back up my above post the FA are not taking any further action because Lee Probert saw the incident and deemed the tackle didn’t warrant a card.

I also noticed that he contrived to get himself subbed by deliberately putting his shin on the underside of that nice Mr Assou-Ekotto’s boot.

No, that award has gone to you by an overwhelming majority. Select any one from many.

For all the derogatory comments he’s still our best striker.

Waits for somebody to post with all the stats to prove me wrong.

Hes another scharner, thinks all the big boys want him and he will end up at wallsal,if he so good why is hestill at latics i ean its only been 4yrs[/quote]
I wasn’t suggesting he was anything special and I agree with most of the comments that have been posted about him. It seems he is coming over all Billy Big Bollocks so yes, get rid, for whatever you can get for him.
Looking at what options we have left doesn’t fill me with much optimism though and I can’t see Maynard making the switch. From what I’ve heard it seems like he’s got a peas above sticks type attitude as well.

Top and tail of it is we are not a big enough club to survive in the Prem and we have been punching above our weight for too long now ! We have been continually ridiculed by tv pundits, the media and opposing fans for our bad gates. Now the inevitable decline in the standard of our squad for all the obvious reasons has caught up with us and I would be very surprised if we stay up come the end of the season ! If we do go down the squad will suffer further and it remains to be seen who will come in. What I will say is that from what I have seen over the last couple of seasons from RM’s tactics, starting line ups and contingency plans I think he has underachieved and perhaps could have fared better with the hands he has been dealt so to speak, but hey that’s just an opinion ! It does seem to be quite evident that there is transition ahead for WAFC and its ownership and DW has been very wary with his finances of late and who could blame him ! I will say that I have continued to go on every home game and do my best verbally to gee the lads on but it has on the whole so far this season been pretty shit if we are all going to be honest with ourselves ! Circumstance I’m afraid, it really is quite simply down to that !

Yep. Can’t disagree with any of that.

No doubt a song will develop through a process of natural selection!

That dream left us when Heskey, Palacios and Taylor were sold closely followed with Valencia and Cattermole.

You say that as if the club couldn’t wait to sell on these players.

Heskey went to Aston Villa for £3.5m and would have gone for free anyway at the end of the season.

Palacios went to Spurs for £12m. Latics had already turned down a substantial offer for him from Spurs until Man City put in a bid which forced Spurs to up their offer, which was eventually accepted.

Taylor went to Newcastle and was put in part exchange for N’Zogbia. I know who got the better of that deal.

It had already been agreed prior to the January transfer window that Valencia was going to Man United at the end of the season for a fee of £16m.

Cattermole wanted away and join Bruce at Sunderland. We paid £3.5m for him and got £6m from Sunderland.

To recap, those players left to join Villa, Spurs, Newcastle, United and Sunderland.

With the possible exception of Palacios are you suggesting that we should and more importantly could have kept any of those players at Wigan?

                                .

We are not the ones having to make the decisions. It’s easy to spout off on a message board how YOU would change things to make it better. Sack Martinez, appoint someone else with no guarantee that they would make things better and we still get relegated. Cue moaning and groaning about how the wrong manager was picked and how it was no better than under Martinez.

Whelan spent money on players and managers and we rose to the lofty heights of mid-table mediocrity, but the crowds did not increase. When Bruce left it was a watershed moment for the club, or more specifically Whelan. He realised it was not possible for Wigan Athletic to compete in this league with clubs (that’s mostly all of them) who could pay significantly more for players and more crucially, pay significantly higher wages, so he did something about it. It’s simple economic business sense and why Whelan is a multi-millionaire and those criticising the way he runs this club are not.

We can moan about Martinez and his style of management but he has so far done what he was employed to do. Whelan has stated on numerous occasions that he wouldn’t sack him even if we were relegated so it’s obvious that possibility was clearly considered when he was appointed. Neither do I think there is some kind of loyalty bond between them which prevents Whelan from sacking him unless he’s uncharacteristically mellowed in his old age.

Maybe Whelan is also unhappy with the style of football served up by Martinez and how the club is progressing (or not).
The difference is Whelan is the one who has to make the decision rather than complain about it on a message board.
