The media have always been condescending towards us and had us down as relegation candidates every season we’ve been in the Prem. The general consensus seems to be that despite our failings we try to play good football.

As for a fighting club, well the “fighting” club which Jewel brought into the Prem almost got relegated the following season and quite frankly, apart from the season under Bruce, has always look relegation candidates, whether that was playing “fighting football” (however you define that) or something else; not that the football played Bruce was particularly interesting but hey, it was “fighting” football so that’s OK!

I do think to want be a referee and in particular to aspire to reach the highest level requires a certain disposition. Why else would you put yourself in a situation where you are constantly criticised and ridiculed about how badly you do your job without any recourse to reply.
I don’t know at what level you referee Tyldesley but I guess it’s local amateur football. Maybe your willy gets smaller and, not unsurprisingly, your sense of humour diminishes the further you move up the refereeing ladder. :think:
