For the good of our club thesooner he goes the better.

in reply to: Well Superfans, the Spaniard led us yet another defeat. #23489

Martinezjust doesn’t have the respect of the players. Time he made a positive decision and handed his notice in to9 Whelan. Good ridance to him.

    in reply to: Shocking #23483

As long as Martinez is manager things will only get worse. If we go down he is certainly not the man to bring us back up. Whelan should get rid of him immediately as we are in real trouble. The sooner he goes the better, and he can take his side-kicks Jones and Barrow with him, they are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

in reply to: SPURS ON SUNDAY………… #23222

If we get hammered on Sunday Martinez should resign publically in the post match conference and Jones and Barrow should go with him. When will Roberto realise that he has lost the respect of both the players and the fans. I wonder what the score will be before the team give us our money back.

in reply to: Martinez says he is proud of the performance #22940

Time the Martinez went. If tonigt was building a platform then I am glad he doesn’t work in the construction industry. He wouldn’t last five minutes on a site coming out with some of his useless comments. Adios Roberto

in reply to: Very Worried after that tonight #22937

He is obviously very easily pleased. If I could I would sack him first thing in the morning. I have lost patience with him.

in reply to: Martinez says he is proud of the performance #22932

I am very worried. Martinez will take us down. He should do the honourable thing and resign. He should go back to Swansea and take Gomez and Scotland with him. He is responsible for the bad crowds because of his principles and poor style of football. How long before he realises that he doesn’t have the backing of the fans.

in reply to: Does this ring any bells? #8336
We are probably the smallest club to ever compete in the Premier League (13000 home fans for a game against Manchester United, 11000 season ticket holders paying 250quid???) and when we got here , 99% of us thought we would do what loads of others have done and stick around for a year before going down.

Our aim has always been and as far as I can see always will be staying up. The anti Whelan brigade saying he should go are living in a dream world because without him, or someone else like him anyway, putting money in every year we would be in a similar position to Leeds or Southampton…but with an average gate of about 8000.

We can’t build something long term in the Premier League because we can’t afford to. We can’t offer the likes of Palacios and Valencia and Cattermole what they can get elsewhere, and to be honest if by doing so it puts the future of the club at risk then I’d rather we didn’t.

Its ok saying we have all this money to spend…I’m afraid we don’t. The sales of the players over the past 6 months should have made serious in roads into the 60 million debt we have but then we have to keep reinvesting in the squad so its catch 22. Forget the Sky money in terms of a profit because its goes straight against the 38 million wage bill we are carrying.

Simple question is; how long can a club go on losing money every year??

To me it looks like the board, or Whelan alone, has sat down and looked at things and thought we have to change the way we are operating because long term it’s not sustainable and to my mind that’s the reason Steve Bruce left. We now have a young manager who appears to want to be here long term, hopefully Whelan will stick with him so let’s give him time to build something.

Sorry but I have to disagree. Most of the large football clubs owe money to the banks. Hopefully the young manager you refer too will improve the way the team are playing or we will be relegated and then we will see who the real fans are. I will give the manager until Christmas to improve things or else he will be on his way. It is time that the club did something serious to improve the crowds – £20 season tickets for all unde 16 year olds would be a start and keep this going for the next ten years or so, and this will help to increase the fan base because they will bring their parents along, and lets be honest it is better to have a full stadium rather than one which is half empty. Supporting football is an expensive business when you have two or three childrens season tickets to buy. Come on Wigan get the commercial department to come up with some good packages.

in reply to: Our Future In His Hands #7433

It is sad to say, but unless Wigan get their act together they wil end up in the Championship, and as I see it they will find it very difficult to get back into the Premier League. Why waste the opportunity when you have got it? We are a Premier League Club and let us do all that we can to survive. It looks as if things are going to be difficult, at present we are just not good enough, something is wrong somewhere. The problem needs to be addressed. Good players are just not performing. Why? Crowds are bad, the club needs to ask why. I work hard to pay for my season ticket and away match tickets and when I see the quality of football that I have seen this sesaon it is obvious why Latics crowds are poor. You can’t blame the fans who walked off at Blackpool for doing so. The last thing I wasnt is relegation, I am Latics through and through, I have Latics blood in my veins, and if we are relegated I will still be there. Yes, we are probably the worst supported team in the Premier League and Wigan Athletic need to act now and encourage as many as possible to come along for the next match and cheer the lads on to the win that will kick start the season. Lets not be known as woeful Wigan.

in reply to: Act now #7359
Competely agree, but being realistic what odds do we have? Is Whelan going to give Martinez funds, you have more chance of getting blood out of a stone.
Does this not remind you of West Brom last year, losing but trying to play football all that counts.
I respect Martinez and want him to be the best thing to ever happen to the club but I just think we need a manager with experience. Martinez is similar in many ways to Paul Ince was at Blackburn, great in the lower leagues before arriving but shown not to have what it takes at premiership level. Having said that, with Whelan as the chairman, Alex Ferguson would struggle.
Wish we could get shut of this mon before its too late, the selfish old git is quite obviously milking us dry to ensure any money he has spent on us is returned.

Great post. You have got it spot on. Lets hope its not too late to turn things round so that we can survive in the Premier League.

in reply to: Sense of perspective #7016
Not good enough last night on the field, for whatever reason. I’m sure that’s been covered elsewhere on 1000’s of posts calling for Martinez to go and Whelan to sell up or spend a billion pound etc.

However, the attitude of a number of our fans was appalling. We took a good following, 1500 maybe, with lots of old face’s there.

It seemed to be a bit of an eye opener for the Premier League only lot

Some lads behind us (when I say lads they were old enough to know better) seemed to be disgusted at the thought that Premier League Wigan could be getting beat 3-0 by “Blackpool…. I don’t even know what league they are in but they are S*ite”

“I’m not coming to this whale watching Wigan again they shouldn’t even be allowed to open the ground when it’s like this”

Never saw Springfield Park then I take it?

We will never, ever be an established Premier League team, we have been punching above our weight for a while now and if some people had bothered to show an interest in the towns football team before 2005 they might have known that getting beat at Blackpool and places like that was part for the course. When we were in the Championship we took great delight in upsetting teams who had the attitude “we should be beating teams like Wigan” its pretty embarrassing if we are going down that road

I have paid my money, I am a long-standing fan, I expect a better performance than last nights. I am entitled to expresss my concerns (even though you might not agree with what I say, just as you are entitled to your opinions) that we are just not good enough at present and I can fully understand the attitude of many of our fans who believe that the club is not good enough at present. Sorry to sound very harsh, but I feel that you are unfair to say that the attitude of our fans was appalling and just because someone never saw Wigan play at Springfield Park does not mean that they are not a loyal fan.

    AND THE SUPPORTERS DESERVE ONE

i sent the club an email after whelans interview in the daily telegraph last week, now in the past the club has always replied but not a peep out of them for this one,so ive just sent this again, and i know for a fact that people at the club read this and other latics forums.

Call this a knee jerk reaction if you like, but i sent you an email earlier this week after the chairmans comments in the daily telegraph where he claimed that no wigan fans complained about selling players, well you either chose not to pass it on or he chose not to reply, well i ask you again mid way through a disgraceful display at bloomfield road,

who are the fans he has had no complaints from ?

mr whelan is not shy when he spouts his ego ridden opinions in as many media forums as seems humanly possible, why cant he answer a simple question from a long standing supporter who is totally disillusioned at the goings on at this moment in time,i would add another question

what are mr. whelans motives and intentions at wigan athletic ?

i am sure most wigan athletic fans, both those that ‘don’t’ complain and those like myself that do would love to here mr whelans forthright opinions on this highly emotive subject.

    regards

A great e-mail. But don’t hold your breath waiting for a reply. I have written to the club on several occasions and been fobbed off with replies that actually said sweet nothing. It appears that we are not allowed to offer constructive criticism.

in reply to: im sorry to say this… #6760

Spot on lad. We are in a mess. Time to spend some money.

in reply to: This Club Is In A Complete And Utter Mess. #6210

Honestly, when you consider different aspects of the club, how things are going, and this, that, and the other, the club is in a hell of a mess at the moment. And can I just say, I’m normally fairly calm and relaxed if we get beat. I don’t tend to go home and sulk and ‘stew’ about it. But yesterday, I did. It was more the manner in which we capitulated that stunned me. Dare I say that, had Scholes early chance gone in, and that Fletcher one, we may have got done 6 or 7 nil? We just collapse. Big, big problems.

For the sake of briefness, I’ll put the points in a ‘bullet-point’ style.

    1. Team performances. We are being beaten ease. People will say “But it was 0-0 for an hour yesterday”. Yes, but that means we shipped FIVE goals in 30 minutes! That’s awful. United were well below par, and yet they still won with such ease, as we fell apart.

2.Disjointed. The team looks all over the place. It’s the back 4 for me that is not good enough. Figueroa looks a shadow of his former self, and the other 3, Melchiot included, don’t seem good enough to me.

    3. Selling all the best players. My oh my……isn’t it showing? How good would our midfield have been, if we’d had a pairing of Palacios and Cattermole? I am absolutely fed up of the fact that as soon as a player gets a bit of interest from other clubs, he’s on his way soon after. It’s going to see us relegated.

    6. Cheap Option Replacements. I’m absolutely fed up of us bringing in these players that either nobody has heard of, or who come from the Championship. We’ve had all this money, for Valencia, etc, and have done crap-all with it. For Pete’s sake, if we don’t bring some serious quality in, we’ll be down by Christmas, at this rate. There’s only a week or so left in the transfer window. I can’t see us making any great strides in that time, can you?

    7. Cheap Option Coaching Staff. It’s nice and sentimental that we have Martinez, Jones, and Barrow, at the club. But they’ve got sod all top flight experience. I’ve heard others touch on this, and I think they have a point. We got Barrow from Altrincham! Would any other Premiership club have recruited from so far down the ladder? No.

    8. Rent-A-Quote-Whelan. The guy has really p**sed me off. He’s always got something to say in a paper, and his recent comments, which apparently suggest thet we fans are actually PLEASED to see players leave, really are a joke. (I don’t know what fans he’s been talking to, do you?) And it’s said he says that Wigan’s still a rugby town, in his new book. The sooner this guy sells up and does one, the better. He may have saved us in the past, he may have got us to where we are, but he’s obviously lost the plot, now. I’ve heard people scoff at suggestions that he should “sell to the first Arab interested”, and I myself, had doubts. But the fact is, we are going to be left behind. Not by clubs like City, who are now LIGHT YEARS away from us, etc, but by clubs such as Stoke and possibly others like Hull. I can’t believe how our club is being run. It is so frustrating. Sell our best players, and replace them with untried shyte. I think that’s the top and bottom of it. No point pussy footing around.

The sooner Whelan f**ks off, the better.

Have you been reading my mind, I think you have summed evrything up pretty well there, especially regarding Mr Whelan.
I still think we might scrape our way into 17th position though.[/quote]

    You are spot on lad.

    I beg too disagree.
