Will there be nude wrestling?

Perhaps we should put that idea to the landlord at the ‘Brick”, as long as it was women only wrestling mind. It would draw the punters in, and at least we would get some entertainment on Saturdays.
It gets packed enough as it is! :(
Loads of room over in Griff Corner
From what I’ve heard, it’s a bit of an exclusive area down that end of the bar. Even the usually brave filmoss doesn’t dare to venture down there. For now, I think I’ll stick to the safety of my window sill area outside, I can make a hasty retreat from there if necessary.
I’ve been over for a quick chat several times but I know when i have outstayed my welcome ( usually as soon as I open my mouth! ) Outside smoking on the front or round the back for me ! :)
I’m, more often than not, a late arrival – especially now I take my eldest son and his mate – managing to chuck one quick pint down before I get ‘Can we go now?’

You’ve probably gone by the time I get there.

I can’t see his wife Gill putting up with that somehow! :woohoo:
Oh, I don’t know about that. I reckon Gill would be first one in the mud.

I keep reading here that Labour are villainous opportunists. I’ll tell you what looks opportunist to me: wanging on about the dangers of a “coalition of chaos”, “electing terrorist sympathisers” and the “magic money tree”, then forging an alliance with the political wing of the UDA and UVF and giving said money tree a shake to the tune of £1 billion so that Theresa May could keep hold of her job.

As for insulting the whole of NI, Alistair, I would suspect that a good 50% want nothing to do with the DUP, given that they were formed by a joyless Presbyterian who would chain kids’ swings up on a Sunday, called alcohol “the devil’s buttermilk” and marched at the funerals of Loyalist gunmen. The Tory party going into partnership with them – as well as being a huge setback to women’s reproductive rights – makes it impossible for them to be seen as neutral in the talks to restart power sharing at Stormont. So, as I say, they are ripping up the good Friday agreement for political expediency.

Mind you, the Unionist community shouldn’ get too complacent, either. Few have done more to harm to the Union in recent years than David Cameron with his referendum that was only ever designed to end a dispute in the Tory party but now threatens the breakup of the UK and the return of a hard border with the Republic. Good work there, Tories.

Yes Martin, you use the word suspect; so no foundation yet again. It is openly apparent that you know nothing but rhetoric about Northern Ireland; but then, that is good fodder for lazy journalism. I thought you were an open minded individual who would take the time to seek out a balanced view; but hey show’s how I misjudged you. How is life in the London Bubble, by the way :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
45% of the population of Northern Ireland are Catholic (against 48% Protestant), so I ‘suspect’ the figure of 50% of Northern Irish people not backing the DUP isn’t far off the truth.

I agree Standish, as a professional driver I also have a very small window when I can have alcohol. Friday and Saturday is the only time I allow myself a beer as normally I’m up at the crack of sparrow fart every other day so ale is a no no. Basically what Cookie is saying. The lads will be able to let their hair down at the right opportunity and he expects them to be professional when required. He will probably be as drunk as the rest on this trip then he wants total focus on return. I like his thinking.

I like what he’s saying too Nuneaton.

They’ve just had a shocking season, and he’s trying to rally them, and integrate the new lads to try and avoid cliques.

He’s already said it’s what he’s done with every club he’s managed.

We need that spirit back that we had 2 seasons ago. The chopping and changing of the squad probably didn’t help.

More like they’ll be knocking the spirits back!
Cant they do their bonding in Blackpool, and do the beach runs there? Any excuse for a piss up at the fans expense.
The manager is given a budget for his pre-season, and this is what he’s deemed they need – rather than a week of running them into the ground in Austria.

I really can’t see why everyone is up in arms about it.

And I can just seem them all running down the beach at Blackpool – avoiding used needles and patches of quicksand.

Paul Cook has urged his Wigan Athletic players to make the most of their week in the sun – because there’ll be a booze ban for the rest of pre-season ahead of the big kick-off.

… I heard Cook loves his drink but this is ridiculous …

NO DRINKING AT ALL … Well … Until after the game …

Next we’ll be seeing the players knocking round town on a saturday night like the Warrior muppets in flip flops and Hungover outside starbucks on a Sunday Morning.

    Full Story …

Seriously, why have you got a bee in your bonnet about all this?

They’re going on a team building trip. Lots of clubs do that.

Then he’s clarified there will be an alcohol ban until the players are match fit, which, again, most clubs do.

He’s more than likely only made this 2nd announcement to Paul Kendrick because people like you have expressed their faux-outrage on social media at the thought of players enjoying themselves when you would have them run until they’re sick and beaten with birch branches for a week.

Please keep this up Martin. It’s entertainment.

I’ve been biting my tongue for weeks and have resisted the urged to avoid being called an argumentative tosser, or whatever else it is I’m called when I latch onto Brexit, Tories or anti-Martinez posts!

Aye, but where is Bogle & Grigg in those piccys.

    Grigg’s still injured.

    No idea about Bogle.

in reply to: Cooks “Bonding Session” #160056

Most clubs do it. It’s just that the managers don’t usually come out and tell the fans that they do it.

They won’t be out clubbing it, but he’ll make them put the hard work in, then they can relax at night and get a bit of team spirit together.

At the end of the day, they’re people just like you and me, and you need to balance the work and play to keep everyone motivated and happy.

Scored a couple of screamers but for me never showed the quality needed at the time enough for me to think he would have made a good signing for us

    I agree.

Decent, but not someone I’d be fighting to sign

This blows the conspiracy theories out of the water – about it being a front for him wanting to stay in the Championship etc.

He’s having talks with Notts County. Looks like the club were telling the truth.

To be fair to the conspiracy theorists, even the chairman of Notts County says he thinks that he’ll go the Championship
True, but the mere fact he’s willing to talk to Notts Co suggests it’s the East Mids location that’s attractive, not the league position.

As I said before, he’s never lived away from the area until last season – and even being a couple of hours away was too much of a strain.

Doesn’t have quite the same excitement in League 1 does it?

Disappointed we’re away both first and last days of the season (it’s usually one or the other).

At least we’ve a home game on Boxing Day (if it doesn’t get rained off like 2 years ago).

Home against Portsmouth 26th August may get moved ;) . Apart from that there won’t be many other changes unless we get to the 3rd round of the Cup…

Oh well, roll on 5th August…be here soon enough. Anyone heard how ST sales are going?

First home game might be moved yet.

It’s looking like Bury will play Sunderland on the Thursday on Sky Sports – so they’ll want to move our game from the Saturday to the Sunday.

Why release him so early I understand the clubs paying him but surely they could of waited to see if another club comes in with an offer first.
Jake must have something up his sleeve he has no club no training and no wages.

He’s going to Burton – and it’s been on the cards since January.

Burton were never going to pay anything for him, and even if they had paid a fee, after agent’s fees, bonuses, his weekly wage while the process goes through etc, it would have been peanuts it. Easier to rip up the contract use the money saved on his salary for new payers.
