If you look at the Reading Ticket page for that game, it only states the non-member price, which is the upper end of ticket pricing structure. This is a non-season ticket holder for us.
By quoting this they say they give a 25% subsidy on this price…. it didn’t say how many actually qualified for this, it may have been none as we don’t know if the tickets reached the stage where any non-members/non-season ticket holders could buy them.
Wait until the prices come out, I think you will find that season ticket holders at Wigan won’t be paying anywhere near the £45 that is being banged about.
Reading were being canny by quoting the maximum saving that their fans were getting, not the minimum or average…… wouldn’t surprise me if the amount we will be paying is nearer the £30 mark than the £45 one (for season ticket holders).
I’ve a feeling you might be right.
It’ll be a nice gesture from the club.
Plus, Reading fans had to travel 3 hours to get there.
i will hold my hand up ….i am one of those just like yosser ..whelan treated the playing staff just like he did when running jjb
brought them in cheap then sold for profit untill it got to the stage where there was nothing much left to sell…now come on whelan is a buisness man only in it for what he got out of it….if you dont believe that well most folk must be blinkerd
we had enough money to run the club from tv revenue plus being in the prem
having worked for the guy you get to know how the guy works
reason we are here where we are now is because we sold off every decent player that we had and brought in shyteWhelan is a business man, but he also has a huge ego. Owning Wigan Athletic got him fame and the chance to get in front of a TV camera or national newspaper reporters every week – something that owning a chain of sports shops could never do.
He’s only lost money on the football club, but obviously feels it was worth it for the personal 6benefits it gave him.
But if you and Yosser honestly believe he’s managed to assemble a gang of master criminal accountants who’ve taken the books of a multi-million pound football club, and covered all trace of Whelan’s wrong-doings in order to publish financial reports showing the club has made a loss and is still in debt, crack on!
Snip
Thank you for your honesty Yosser. I wasn’t being arsey with you so I hope it didn’t come across that way I was genuinely asking why you were no longer a fan as yes I do remember you being a regular poster and hopefully you’ll stay around.
I agree totally with your comments regards modern football. It is an absolute joke that money is thrown around the way it is when the World is in the situation it is in but that’s life I guess. Actors/actresses will get paid millions for one film or TV series. It’s the entertainment business I suppose.
Otter has a point though; whilst you don’t want money being thrown around you are wanting Latics to throw money around to be successful. Can’t have it both ways.
Personally (and I have said it before) I think that the 8 Premier League years has ruined some fans expectations of a club such as ourselves. Obviously those that jumped on the wagon during the rise think that that is the norm. I started watching us when I was 6 and we were relegated that season to the bottom division. Obviously I don’t want to see us there again, but aside from a nice stadium and a pretty wealthy Chairman we aren’t much different to the clubs down there and our financial records show you that.
Dave Whelan had no choice really other than to strip the assets of the club in order for us to survive and to ensure that we don’t go down the route of our near neighbours. We aren’t exactly skint though as we have a stadium and training ground that are very cleverly held under a different business name so that should the shit ever hit the fan we actually have assets to sell or to bring in much needed finance from other avenues.
Yosser was always firmly entrenched in the ‘Whelan is bleeding the club dry’ movement.
That’s why Yosser feels we should have invested more money – because in his opinion the money to do that was available, but Whelan pocketed it.
Is this still the case Yosser?
If other championship clubs are looking at him what are they seeing that we arn’t ? Do they think he is a decent player and we are not making the most of him ?I don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough for this league yet.
But thats all crap as you know. A football team is a little more than a mere business. But if you take away those people who fund the business and keep it going (the fans) what are you left with? A sports club has every obligation to keep its fans, benefactors, shareholders, people who pay money in the loop unless it comprimises business or revenue. And divulging business activities that it would rather keep quiet from competitors until they’re finalised is compromising its business.
Every report I’ve read has said he’s training with us. It’s the Italian mid season break. Have we expressed an interest in signing him? I’ve never seen it. Him and Joyce know each other from old and maybe he trusts Joyce to keep him in shape. If he doesn’t sign for us it doesn’t mean we’ve faffed about. It might never have been on the agenda as far as we know. It looks like people are going to use this as another stick to beat the club with if he doesn’t sign for us.And, the ‘faffing about’ is usually down to the selling club or player’s agent dragging it out until the last minute to get the best possible deal, or, the incoming player move relying on money being freed up by an outgoing player move.
As usual, on transfer deadline day Facebok will be littered with comments from people convinced the club sit around for a month and then suddenly realise what time it is and jump into action to try and sort something out before the window closes.
You’d think we’ve already been relegated by looking at Twitter and Facebook.
White flags going up all over the place!
Delort is that shit, his club paid 8 Million Euros for him, so they must have seen something in him.
Eleven part games for us was hardly enough to fully judge his capabilities.I didn’t say he was shit, I said he was too lightweight for English football.
A bit like Boselli – who was top scorer in Argentinian football, but looked lost with us, then could hardly get a game in Italy, but has now scored 70 goals in 3 seasons in the same Mexican league that Delort has gone to.
Wonder why they are signing him. Not rated by Latics and some of our fans. They don’t think he is good enough to help us out of the mire.
Barnsley must rate him good enough as he as been a big part of their pretty decent season.
What does a player have to be, to be rated by Latics and some of our fans?
This isn’t the first time this has happened.
It happened quite a few times two years ago.
Forshaw, Delort, Riera to name three.
I hope he opens his mouth and says something because it’s the only way we will find anything out.I’ll agree with you on Forshaw, but Delort was too lightweight for British football and Riera has scored a grand total of 8 goals in 3 seasons in Spain.
Morsy is that shit he is currently a regular in a team sitting 8th in the Championship.
McDonald would also be a regular in that team.
The point is, everyone is proclaiming him as the saviour of our season. He’s a defensive midfielder, and that’s not what we need.
Morsy was a complete disappointment when he played for us. I didn’t see anything in him that made me feel we should hang on to him. Not sure how much we paid for him but £400k seems a good deal for me.Is he any better than the holding midfielders we have? Not in the same league as McDonald IMHO, its certainly not going to get me spitting my dummy out.
Morsy is the new Espinoza: getting better with each game he doesn’t play.
He’s decent but certainly no better than McDonald.
I think we’re missing Gilbey and another decent attacking midfielder – as Powell is proving to be a huge disappointment.
When Joyce got the Wigan job he tweeted what a great appointement it was.
Napoli to Wigan. What a move!
Plays for Lazio, not Napoli.
Not great shout buddy.
Yep. Point taken. When Joyce got the Wigan job he tweeted what a great appointement it was.
Napoli to Wigan. What a move!
What happened to that £25m we were promised in the first Prem season?Jewell spend it on brasses.
