I will say it again our two centre midfielders are too square of each other and don’t fill the box when we go forward unlike Burton when they scored they had four in the box waiting for that goal
I’m not really sure what offends you so much about Perkins, but I’ll give you your dues, you’re persistent with it.
Anyone remember that 7-0 thumping we gave Fylde at home when Horace Thomas and Duncan Colquhoun got five of the goals between them?
I was back on leave from the International Division where we’d been holding Franco’s lot just outside Malaga.
Cracking day.
Cardiff fans think it’s hilarious that we’ve taken this donkey off their hands for a few months. Even from here you can almost hear their snickers of delight.
I don’t think that means anything, let’s face it people on here have laughed at Villa, Huddersfield and Wolves taking Grant Holt on loan, but up to now none have complained with the service they received from him.
I personally would have got him back and used him instead of wasting a loan when it wasn’t needed. It would also have given us all a BOOST.
I’m glad Holt’s gone. He’s far from impressed me during his time with the club and his Premier League contract has had us by the Curley Wurlies for the past three years.Cardiff fans think it’s hilarious that we’ve taken this donkey off their hands for a few months. Even from here you can almost hear their snickers of delight.
It’s all true though and worthy of a mention I reckon.
The team last night was made up of largely second string players and they were bloody magnificent !
Kellet surely must start on SaturdayBut that’s my point! Talk about good win you’ve just watched? Hell no. There’s nothing to whinge about with that one.
C what happens when you have a decent midfield no goals against and four for.Now I know you’re on the wind-up!
Either that or you are more clueless that I could have possibly envisaged.
Why would it be a wind up because I disagree why do you think we let so many goals in. The ball goes straight through midfield. Watch against Rochdale our midfield don’t tackle mcann runs past them from defence and when we go forward they are not in support. Like I say it’s just my opinion. It would be a wind-up because, for all of the faults that people have picked up on regarding Perkins, putting his foot in and making a tackle is not one of them. In fact, those who have criticised him have said that’s all he does do well!
For the second goal against Bury, yes, he should have tackled the man – and I’m not sure why he didn’t, but there have been three separate occasions this season where, in a similar situation, he has been the only player who has chased back and has made the tackle.
You’ve said earlier that he should have taken one for the team? Why? It was a meaningless FA game (and before you mention going on a cup run etc, we’ve no chance of winning it, so what’s the point of adding more games to an already busy schedule when we’re trying to win promotion?), so it’s pointless risking yellow or red card that would then rule him out of league games. Maybe that’s why he pulled out of the tackle at Bury?
And for the record, I’d put the blame equally on Morgan as he was ball watching and didn’t pick up on the other lad charging up in support.
Can’t tackle won’t tackle he can run about but he doesn’t do it for me. Bury second goal proves my point the lad doesn’t tackleThis is a wind-up? Please tell me it is.
The same club who insists on sending Nichols on loan instead of the useless keeper who played today and had another shocker todayI take it you’ve not seen the howler Nicholls made for Bristol Rovers a couple of weeks ago?
As a striker I wouldn’t say twenty goals a season is a huge ask but have we two or even one at Latics who could possibly reach that target. Favourite is Grigg but can he do it? Playing Saturday and Tuesday could help him and boost his confidence. He did it last season.
And at the moment Burnley are top of the Championship. I had to take a closer look at their line up and couldn’t help but notice they are playing two out and out strikers in a 4 4 2 set up. I had to look twice at this because surely playing two strikers in the Championship can’t work. Yes two, out and out strikers in a 4 4 2. It just doesn’t work as many have said on here. It isn’t the way. It’s old fashioned. These Dingles should be in a relegation spot. Bloody idiots investing all that money in Andre Grey to play alongside Vokes. Suicidal move, surely to bankrupt and relegate them.I can’t see what your obsession with a second out-and-out striker is considering we’re fine with scoring of goals. It’s conceding them that’s the problem!
But anyway, here are a couple of stats for you:
In the Premier League, Leicester are the only team in the top half of the table who play 442. And there are only 3 other Premier League teams who usually play 442.
The current top 3 teams in the Championship play 442, but the 5 teams closely following them do not. The rest of the Championship is evenly split between those playing 442 and those who do not.
I bet if you looked at League One there would be more teams playing 442 than not. And more so in League Two.
It basically demonstrates that in the lower leagues where players (and arguably the managers) have less ability, they tend to stick to a more rigid formation.
But, most of these formations change depending on whether the team’s attacking or defending. Recently we’ve looked like we’ve been playing 541 when not in possession and 2431 when attacking.
And as for Hull and Burnley doing well, so they should with the £65 million Premier League prize money plus parachute payments they both got!
Woooooaaahhhh!! Hold on there horsey. You having a bad morning Standish?I didn’t say everyone had the viewpoint I describe, but it’s known Latics fans in general like a Perkins over a Gomez, if anything you agree with me that there’s room for grit players and flair. Some just seem to go overboard (imo) on how great a player Perkins is.
The pass and move of Swindon was superb I thought, when they did it. They won’t be bottom 2 for long.
The Wildschut one is all my own prediction, it’ll be either right or wrong but he strikes me that he’ll be in and out rather than all the time.
As for the last post you made, I’d say your stepping over the mark a bit.
Probably the long drive through fog to Cheadle had me a bit tetchy….so, okay, I’ll go with you on the Perkins thing that yes, there are many who love the headless chicken types who don’t appreciate the need for creative players.
But there are a good number (at least from the people I know and speak to) that can appreciate the merits of both types of player.
I thought he played well on Sunday and he’s impressed me so far, but I’ll not go over the top on his praise because if we had a team of Perkinses, we’d win f-all.
As for my last comment – apologies if it offended. It was meant in relation to your glass half empty stance rather than anything against young Tez, who I am sure is a fine young chap.
Forgot to mention Jacobs, nothing went for him on Saturday. My lad’s favourite player and thinks it’s down to him changing his boots, he kept shouting for him to “get your orange boots on” modern football eh?I’ve also got a feeling that Wildschut somehow will manage to prove disappointing overall, despite having it all in his locker.
..and forgot to mention this in my last post.
F’ck me. It must be a laugh a minute in your house! Have you had the ‘Well, you’ll probably amount to nothing to be honest with you’ talk with your son yet?!
Everyone knows the majority of Latics fans have always loved a player like Perkins, who does what a Perkins does, some of us prefer what I’d call better footballers, someone who can pass, move, score a goal a bit like a Cisco, that majority who like a Perkins seem to find a playmaker, a thinker say, a bit lazy.Unfortunately the division we are in demands a Perkins type player and he does his job well, if all you want is a breaker up of play and someone who gets his foot in. MOM is a way off view of the match imo.
I had neutrals with me on Saturday (Palace supporters) they thought Swindon were the better footballing side when they had the ball and we lacked belief, I thought we set out thinking we’d piss the game as is what happens in these types of fixtures and it doesn’t always work like that. They also said the No9 has to toughen up and were surprised when I told them his goals tally, last season and his cost.
One last thing, we didn’t pressure anything like enough when their keeper was up to his tricks. We’ve all seen what teams do to us when we maul about with it. Convinced we’d have got a goal sooner if we’d pushed up and defended from the front when this was occurring. How could the manager not see that?
With all due respect, that’s bollocks.
I think Perkins has been consistently the best player for us this season, and he has, on more than one occasion, been the man behind the last man and bailed the back three out.
He isn’t there to create chances, score goals, make clever runs etc, and he’s a completely different player to Junior with a totally different role, hence why it’s always Max Power that makes way for Junior, not Perkins.
He’s our Division One version of Lee Cattermole, and he does the hard work for the more creative players.
However, to counter this, I was also a staunch defender of the likes of Gomez and Landzaat on this and other forums when many called them lazy, gutless, show-ponies etc.
It is possible to appreciate both types of players, and to have a complete team you need both types of players.
As for Swindon being a better footballing side, have your friends’ judgement been clouded by that short time they were under Pulis’ management?
They were as average-to-poor as we were, but most of their attacks came on the counter. Maybe it was the threat of a long-ball and counter attack that stopped Caldwell going for all out pressure in their half (we did it in the first 15 minutes but eased back when the quick goal didn’t come).
Who gives a shit :woohoo: :woohoo:
Obviously, thty5yearswafc, those who aren’t interested won’t comment on the thread.
Are there any Doonhamers here?
