Over 2000 I would imagine
Think the zero is sticking on your keyboard pal.
As is the ‘Submit’ button on yours by the looks of it….There were 1000 Garda around the outside of the ground that day keeping an eye on the hardened republican protests that were going on, James McClean is also an hardened republican and in a democratic society has every right to not recognise the national anthem if he so chooses! Some folk on here might consider getting themselves a tank top,a pipe and getting a season ticket for The Hammers! If it ever went to a vote whether to usurp the queen and her cronies or not I bet it would be a close call! The royal family don’t do votes though do they! In the meantime you won’t catch me standing to that servile bollocks, which reminds me, did any of you Queen lovers buy The Sex Pistols ‘God Save The Queen’ ? If you did, why?McClean is such a hardened republican that he’s plying his trade with a British club, being paid British pounds and celebrating goals in front of a stadium full of British fans!
You can’t take the money with one hand, whilst giving the V with the other and expect not to insult people.
Ps. No Queen love here. Far from it. And even if the National Anthem was dropped in favour of something by Billy Bragg, I’d still expect it to be respected by someone earning a very good living in the country that that anthem represents.
PPS. Never bought God Save The Queen.
Good on him I say!
Why good on him?
If he can find it within himself to play in Britain and happily accept the money given to him by his British club, the least he can do is respect their National Anthem.
The poppy issue – yes I can understand that.
This one however is disrespectful towards the fans who help pay his wages.
Whether you’re offended by it or not really depends on your political viewpoint I guess.
Had he still been at Latics & done it before the game against Southport would I have found it disrespectful towards me as a fan? – not in the slightest. The anthem doesn’t represent me & nowhere within its lyrics does it mention us as citizens. It’s a song about an unelected head of state born into immense wealth & power and has no relevance to me whatsoever.
Personally I find the anthem itself far more disrespectful & offensive to me than what James McClean did at the weekend
Sorry, disagree completely. It’s more a matter of patriotism, and as someone who is proud to be British, I found it downright disrespectful considering he has chosen to make a living in Britain.
Forget the lyrics. They were written 200 years ago and lost their relevance a long time ago.
These days the song is a representation of being British, and not a literal collective hope that God saves a miserable looking 80 year old woman so she can be victorious, happy and glorious.
In essence whatever statement he thinks he’s making, he’s actually saying ‘I hate Britain and I’m only here for the money’.
I understood and respected his stance regarding the poppy – which is a direct British military reference, but this one is a step too far.
Keeping stony silent and even bowing his head would have done rather that his grand gesture.
Why on earth was the national anthem being played? The queen wasn’t there, she and Harry were busy getting ready for the next fancy dress party – dressed as ……. one arm raised!! It was only a friendly. Are we now going to have to listen to the derge before every game at the DW? At least James tried. Looking at the picture, maybe he’d spotted an alligator next to his boot. It’s an American thing.
They play their own at every game, so probably thought we’ll throw the British one in as well – and are shocked when the British players aren’t singing loudly with tears in their eyes and hands across their hearts.

Big dave been bolton today he a doctor.so called on wish fm. Get him has our team doc. Please tell me you typed that with your feet.
Grigg 20 goals last season. How many would he have scored playing the role of loan striker like our strikers have had to do in recent years? Hopefully Gary changes things and gives Grigg some assistance this time around. Who knows he may even play him on a regular basis.Grigg usually plays as a lone striker, and both of his most successful seasons came when he played up front by himself.
So if you’re hoping for a nice nostalgic 4-4-2 nxt season, think again!
How anyone can have a go at a player who played under our inept management, yet won back to back promotions from this division, winning player of the year for one of them and having heaps of praise from the other, is beyond me.If one player summed up our failings as a club under the last regime(s)it’s Tavernier.
We’ll no doubt sell him, Waghorn and Huws before the season starts but dress it up as the best thing since Apollo 13. Some will probably applaud it!
I don’t think anyone is having a go at Tavernier, merely saying he didn’t stand out when he did play, and at times he certainly wasn’t immune to the West Stand insults that seem to be reserved solely for wingers and fullbacks.
It was probably down to the manager’s tactics, a lack of confidence,he found the Championship too quick, or whatever, because he went on to prove he’s a good League One player.
But he simply wasn’t the saviour of our potential season that some are now claiming with hidsight.
If he’s sold, it’ll more than likely be due to salary demands or maybe he doesn’t want to play for the club after he was dropped and loaned out – and could you blame him?
To be fair Tavernier hardly pulled up Any trees when he played. Average at best.I didn’t see enough of him, but in the games I did see him, I agree, he didn’t stand out.
It is Phil.
There seems to be a lot of Larry Lloyd bashing going on. What’s all that about?
Last time Davies played a full season in League One, he scored 23 goals.
If he can keep fit, I think he’ll be a decent signing.
Houses or sit on it for a few years after a few attempts to change the plans to housing. Then as allways Chorley B.C. will give in to the big rich man because the site will have become an eyesore and expensive houses will be even more expensive and the original investment will be turned into a massive profit. Seems strange that there was money available for this project but not for Jordan Rhodes etc when an investment in a proven striker two years ago could have given us a quick return to the Premier and therefore the Charnock Site being developed. To the football club the investment in Charnock Richard as been about as usefull as the investment in Riera Delort Holt and co. Charnock Richard as not seen much football yet and us as fans didn’t exactly see much football out of those three either. What nonsense.
The training ground has been in the planning since Martinez came back to the club. It was the dangling carrot that kept him here, and Whelan had even gone to the trouble of visiting other Premier League clubs’ training grounds to see how they’d done it.
It’s obvious the club needs one to attract players and develop its own academy players. It’s a long term investment – much more so than selling to a developer for a couple of million.
The problem is though, the club didn’t plan for 2 relegations, and the yearly income has dropped from £40 million-ish, to – once the parachute payments have gone – f’ck all.
The training ground will happen if we get promoted, they just need to allocate what little money they have elsewhere at the moment. If we don’t get promoted in the next few seasons, yes, then it may end up being sold on.
As for Jordan Rhodes: Blackburn were never going to sell to one of their rivals, and came out in the media to say as much. The guide-price for Charnock Richard GC when it went on sale was around £600k (not exactly a bank-breaking amount) and it had already been bought before Owen Coyle was given the job and the Jordan Rhodes rumour appeared.
And as for the proven goalscorer – that’s what we thought we were getting when we signed Grant Holt!
Just a quick update for those that may not have been keeping up.IN

Agreed Standish, I would say 1.5 mill would be half decent, a third of that amount isn’t. ;)Oh dear. I didn’t see the report that it was EUR 700k.
Last I heard, EUR 2m had been offered.
If it’s indeed EUR 700k, that’s not great!
No foresight imo and who is doing the negotiating, Graham Barrow?!Whether the player wants to go or not, with 2 years on his contract we should be getting more than that for a player who played regularly in La Liga last season and the season before last and who we paid 2 mill for.
As some say it is literally clearing a wage off, which to an extent I understand but are we that desperate to agree to half a mill? Maybe we were that chuffed with getting 1.5m for McClean we’ve gone all giddy!
Wigan don’t want him, and Riera doesn’t want to be at Wigan. So there’s a need to get him off the payroll.
Interested clubs will be fully aware of all of this, so in my opinion £1.5m is a decent deal.
