That’s a fair observation Garswood, and to put the record straight (SW), for me, I wasn’t having a go or ‘bashing’ Black I was merely pointing out that the support role that these two have had over the previous years hasn’t worked and it was time to see a whole change in management personnel. There is a lot to be said about managers who, when appointed, want to bring in their own staff, as there is already an understanding of methodology, clear lines of communication, training etc and I don’t think that keeping these two on the pay roll has helped any of the previous 3 managers, whatever anyone thinks of their (managers) competencies. I think it was a decision based on finance (possibly to offset costs of the appointments) and, dare I say, misplaced loyalty. Whatever the reasons behind all of this over the years (which we will never know about for sure) it has been a factor in where we now find ourselves, in my opinion of course.

My comment wasn’t really aimed at anyone in particular, it just that Black’s name seems to have cropped up time and time again when people are criticising or questioning the abilities of the backroom staff.

As I said earlier, I can understand people having a pop at Barrow* but I can’t really see what Black’s done wrong. I think in this case however, both Black and Barrow’s influence should help Caldwell as he’s new and doesn’t have any assistants to bring in with him into the job.

I’m actually looking forward to see how Caldwell does. He’s played under some good managers who like to play football rather than hoofing it upfield aimlessly.

With a name like Billy I some how reckon the lad wouldn’t exactly see himself as Oirish.

I’m guessing his family are quite fond of the colour orange.

I’ll give McKay his due though, he did try quite a few formations.

He did but with the wrong players, Clarke is not good enough it’s as simple as that. And for the people who said Reira, Delort and McKay aren’t good enough can you please tell me how you came to the decision ? purely because the manager didn’t play them ?. Well looking on MacKays performances he might have just got that one wrong as well
I’ve seen Riera and Delort play, and in my opinion, Delort was not good enough. Two manager also felt the same.

I thought Riera showed more promise.

McKay – I’ve not seen enough of him to decide either way.

And Clarke isn’t good enough in my opinion.

Where’s all this Eric Black bashing coming from?

He only came back to the club in July and since Mackay was appointed, he’s been virtually invisible on matchdays.

He was highly thought of when Bruce was our manager, and he’s a well-respected coach.

Are people confusing him with David Kerslake – who was always prominent in the technical area on matchdays? Black was the one sitting down, who Mackay never consulted.

Barrow knocking I can understand (although he was rated by Martinez), but not Black.

So who thinks that GC will pick his fellow Scotsman/Scot Billy Boy on Friday? Yeah, I know Malky was Scottish but he was clearly a fuckwit! :)

Nearly as bigger fuckwit as you, Billy Mckay is Irish!!
He less Irish than I am Zambian!

He was born and raised in Leicestershire and only qualifies for Northern Ireland because he father’s parents were born in Belfast.
Does that mean your parents or grandparents were born in Zambia?
Neither. I was born there.

Am sure they will fill all of two coaches! The fans have been treated like shit all season. Whelans hardly said a word and now put some young kid in charge who can be a puppet. Find it hard to believe he sacked Mackay personally. Let’s hope they dont rush into an appointment. Best to write this season off and make sure someones in place by the end of May.

Whelan hasn’t been able to say a word since he appointed Mackay because everytime he opened his mouth he got himself into more trouble, and then he got a ban from the FA.

I’m pretty sure it would have been Jonathan Jackson who sacked Mackay as he’s in charge of the day to day running of the club.

I’m a bit confused with the comment that ‘The fans have been treated like shit all season’. How?

They made this gesture and people have criticised thm, but had they not made the gesture, it would be the same people criticising them for not doing something! They can’t win.

Or alternatively a nice gesture they didn’t need to make.

For rugby games the North & South stands are unreserved seating, which slightly reduces the capacity. Also there are a few seats in ES1 that cant be used because of the large screen sky put up in that corner.

You forgot to mention who won. You also forgot to mention that the crowd was 24054.

Try discussing why a 3pm kick off on a wet good Friday and a 3pm kick off on a sunny Easter Monday had almost 10,000 difference.

With the weather being so bad but stil getting a good turnout, there shouldn’t be any reason why Wigan RL’s next homegame isn’t a sell out.

What is it with our leaders at the moment that when they open there traps I wince? The “Billy McKay can shoot us to safety” article Malky has just done had me cringing. What a pile of tosh .7 games left and he comes out with an embarrassing statement like that. So what about the wasted opportunities since he signed him ? ” Making sure he’s ready to make an impact ” Christ Fortune not scoring in god knows how many games would have made most managers throw him in.Can he really be any worse than the two we started with Saturday ? I am convinced that if he doesn’t drop Mr Blank or his oaf of a partner then we haven’t a hope of surviving. The last 2 home games when we created enough chances to earn the 3pts comfortably was painfully obvious as to why we are where we are.Yes we have other failing across the park but this is the one that is the difference between dropping and surviving.Stubborn or just tactically blind ? Whichever it is he has certainly edged me towards the goodbye Malky club.

I doubt he believes it himself, but if McKay is low on confidence and needs an ego massage, what’s he supposed to say?

‘Yes, he’s shite, but he’s probably more chance of scoring than those two cretins up front’

Only ever 5 winners of it since it started in 1992 ,23 years ago!
Chelsea,Man utd,Man City ,Blackburn and Arsenal

In the 23 years prior to 1992 we had 7 different champions Leeds,Arsenal,Liverpool,Everton,Aston Villa,Nottingham Forest, Derby County .
Not many more I grant you but check out some of the unfashionable names like Forest and Derby and also remember Forest won it straight after a promotion in 1977-78 season.
it is overrated for sure but interesting especially when a struggling club like Burnley turns over a team like City and it would be nice to see little clubs like Bournemouth and Brentford get up there next season although the TV bosses would hardly relish paying 10 million a game to screen those two would they?

I postd about this earlier.

Premier League is exactly the same as all major leagues in terms of the low number of winners:

England 5
Germany 6
Spain 5
Netherlands 5
Italy 5
Portugal 4
Scotland 2
Is the Premier League overrated?
Since its inception? No
Currently? It depends who you are

An armchair fan who pays his subscription continues to do so, because they believe they are getting value for money. Games have incident, excitement, controversy and at the beginning of the season there are several team who could win the League.

A fan of a promoted club gets caught up in the excitement but after surviving for a few seasons apathy sets in. The exciting moments become few and far between.

Results in the Champions League haven’t been great recently, but this goes in cycles.

For what it is worth, I think that the Premier League is still the best overall.
Bundesliga wishes they have the global marketing power of the Premier League and is trying to catch up.
However, while the stadium experience is better, Bayern are consistently winning the league with weeks to spare and are buying all the best players from their nearest rivals.
I’d say that’s a pretty decent summary of it.

Edit: beat me to it Yosser

Did you see the Barbados result and who they were beat by?

Lost 1-0 to US Virgin Islands. I don’t think Boyce played.

Here are some stats….

Over the past ten years England has had more teams in the Champions League and Europa League than any other country.

The figures are:

Champions League
England 8
Spain 5
Germany 4
Italy 3

Champions League & Europa League combined
England 11
Spain 9
Germany 5
Portugal 5
Italy 3
Scotland 1
Ukraine 1
Russia 1

That suggest to me that the Premier League is certainly up there in terms of quality despite disappointing results over the past two seasons.

Also, the Premier League is still the most watched league in the world – hence why it can command huge license fees.

You may call it the ‘Greed League’, but it’s doing exactly what all the other leagues would do if they had the demand.

And, all leagues have one or two clubs that tend to run away with it each season.

Over the past twenty years the number of different winners of the Premier League and its equivalents have been:

England 5
Germany 6
Spain 5
Netherlands 5
Italy 5
Portugal 4
Scotland 2
France 10 (although I suspect this will now change because of the investment in PSG)

I await your comments….

When we were chasing the game late on, we got caught on the break a few times.

That’s why Kvist was brought on to stop the breaks

Kvist gave the ball away a few times when he came on and got us on the back foot. Boycie was blowing bubbles trying to catch the geezer who won the penalty.
Not sure what your point is, but Kvist was not the reason we lost last night and was not the reason we got caught on the break. Perhaps shoving Big Harry up front for the last 5-10 mins was more of a reason we got caught on the break.
I never said that Kvist was the problem last night I said he was brought on to stop the Watford counter attack

The problem was that the three players who got took off where the ones who were creating the attacking play that we had
Personally, I thought Kvist was brought on merely because Kim was used to replaced the ineffective Ojo on the left.
