Seeing as the club mentioned it this week, the 4-1 win at PNE. Their reserve keeper was awful. Saying that, they were in full control until the sending off.
The 4-2 on Roberts debut was equally as good. “Where’ve we seen this score before?” being belted out at 4-1 before they scored a late second. The scenes when Roberts back heeled that goal in though were superb.
The 0-0 draw at Huddersfield to clinch the Div 2 title. Wasn’t the best of games really and aside from hitting the post I don’t think we created much.
The Crewe score filtered around though and then little chants of “championees championees” before the whole stand joined in. Was one of the best followings we’ve had there including the FA Cup game.
McClean and Fortune are (IMO) both great target men. They’ll run all day and cause defenders problems. They won’t get you 20 goals though and should have been played alongside someone such as Mckay, Waghorn or dare I say Delort.
Correct egg. Apparently we are looking at Billy Sharp again, is he the answer to our scoring woes??
Good record at this level. The problem is that if we play him on his own then our wingers won’t be good enough to get the service he needs and he’ll end up isolated.
I’ve nothing against 1 up top, but it needs the players around it to support and ours haven’t.

You should have taken up rugby union you would have been a revelation !He would have been utter useless. You can’t isolate yourself from your team mates in Union or you lose possession. His constant running up his own arse would have done that.
Was never his biggest fan due to him being one footed and constantly forgetting he was one footed, but he was the only player who appeared to give a shit for most of last season.
I don’t care if we go down fighting and are beaten by the better side, but I hate when we roll over and die, so any player who appears to care will be a favourite of mine.
Glad thats last TBH.
The original plans were for Latics and Orrell and then for all three.
I remember seeing a scale model in the old supporters club at Springy and the badge on the outside was just one big tree and crown. The plans were even in the programme IIRC.
I think deep down Whelan always wanted the rugby there though
And then send the laughtics off to Salford to share with them and Sale Sharks. Then you can truly be the Manchester United of the lower leagues.I see what you did there.
Koukash is more outspoken than Whelan. Some of his comments are right but he very often spouts utter tosh. Wasn’t aware he was a Saints fan though.
The sheephead calls are funny as.
He didn’t even attend the game.
Hopefully a few ‘homegrwon’ lads will get their chance this season.
Lee Ashcroft giving the fingers to the St Andrews stand while being carried off after just tearing us apart.
My fist actual memory is Chester at home in 95. David Felgate got injured in the warm-up and Farnworth went in goal. 1 down early on, won 2-1.
I actually thought this was my first ever game but looking back at pictures and stats etc it was the year before that I started but I haven’t a clue who against. I know I went to Villa Park for the League Cup game but I’ve no actual memory of the game.
Cowie was highly rated by both Watford and Cardiff fans – and when he joined us he was being linked with a move to Rangers, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was trying to get him to stay at Cardiff.
10 caps for Scotland, Inverness CT player of the season and ex-Ross County captain….
I suspect there’s more to Don Cowie than most people on here give him credit for.
Maybe now we’ve stopped launching the ball over the midefield we might see a different side to him.
It could be a case of Wigan Athletic curtailing footballers promise these days! I notice you mentioned ICT o’er the border and how he was great there, well there is a certain striker who was going great guns up there until he came here! ;)
OI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave off ICT or you’re banned ;)
The entire FA Cup run from the first game with Bournemouth to the semi final with Arsenal.
Jason Roberts goal at Arsenal
Beating Reading to go up
Beating United
The last day at Springy and getting in the playoffs. The subsequent pitch invasion and chants of ‘we are going up’ under the phoenix stand as the players stood on the upper tier. (i think even the auto windscreens shield got an airing)
