Boselli’s confidence will never come good for as long as I have a hole in my @r$e whilst he’s played up front on his own in our slow, pedestrian system

Who’s responsible for a) thinking that he could play up front on his own, contrary to our director of football’s advice & b) for insisting our players play this slow pedestrian system?

Quite how you can blame the fans for Boselli not being a success at Latics is beyond me

I remember when I started to watch Latics full time (1989ish) that I thought Fulham were one of our bogey teams at home coz we got beat by them the first few times I saw em

So I originally guessed around 1992/1993 & I was pretty much spot on I think

There’s no harm in having a sniff but I’d imagine that if Fulham & West Ham are indeed rivals for his signature that (if its on loan) both would be prepared to pay a higher percentage of his current salary than Latics would & (if its permanent) both would be prepared to pay higher transfer fees & wages than Latics would

That said I’m still puzzled how a club whose owners say its over £100mill in debt can still go around offering sky high wages to all & sundry

Whelan is on today’s wigantoday.net saying that he can’t see anyone leaving during this transfer window but that if Bobby wants to bring anyone in then somebody must be shipped out.

Can’t say I disagree with that & hope that when he refers to players being shipped out that its the duffers as opposed to the good uns – certainly with Bobby trying to shift out Boselli that would certainly seem to be the case

Although I do not with interest that Bobby’s arguments for trying to ship Boselli out are not to get shut completely but to help him bridge the gap between south american & english football & that he’ll come back in the summer the Boselli that world football knows about. nice way to swerve the potentially awkward question of wasting £6mill of your bosses money

A player I’d sent off for 2 cautions for dissent once came on to the pitch at full time & threatened to wrap a corner flag round my neck. In fact if I remember right as well as the sending off report I sent in 5 misconduct reports against the club & as far as I’m aware they’ve since folded

Below is a snippet from one of my match reports:

“During the second half of the above game I sent off X from the field of play for violent conduct for shoving me in the chest with both hands as I was cautioning him for dissent.
After I had shown the red card, X began to act in an extremely aggressive manner towards me. I felt that, but for the efforts of his team mates, he was going to physcially attack me. Whilst being restrained X made threats to “chuffin launch you all over that car park after the game you fat coot” and that he was “going to chuffin have you after the game you fat coot”.
As his team mates were still attempting to restrain him and get him off the field of play he made a further threat that “I’m gonna chuffin burn that fat chuffin coot after the game”
It took several minutes after the issuing of the red card for X to be almost forcibly removed from the field of play by his team mates”

I don’t know why he kept calling me fat coz my mum has always told me that I’m just big boned!!!

I had to bite my tongue after one particular game as a bunch of U16 Scouse scrotes (& their manager) followed me from the pitch shouting after me that I was a “chuffin, fat  , cheatin, bar steward” & a “chuffin smackhead” which I thought was a bit rich coming from Scousers!!

As I’m using a works PC I’ve taken the liberty of changing some of the language used to protect my job!!!!

I could well be mistaken but I’m sure that I remember us signing a player who was out injured at the time so you have to wonder what medical they undertook!!

Its all conjecture as I have no idea what the club’s medical process is but that Sibierski example gives a good indication of Latics level as opposed to other top flight clubs

On medical matters I also seem to remember Lee McCulloch being out with an foot/ankle injury once for longer than expected & it took the best part of 2 weeks for someone at the club to send him for an x-ray that revealed a break!!

To be fair Latics medical for once did its job & did identify Diame had a medical condition (unless he just ticked the box that asked the question)

I’ve long wondered about Latics medicals – Kevin Nicholls passed his for one, couldn’t play for us for donkeys coz he’s knee was goosed, made one appearance & then disappeared for 6 months again

Was it Sibierski who signed for us ahead of Bolton & quoted as a major reason that Bolton wanted him to undertake a medical that would take 3 days (quite wisely too given his injury problem pre & post signing for Latics) whereas the one at Latcis took a few hours?

Griff – The story is on Sky Sports website & is “according to sources”

As for my own opinion on whether its a good deal:
    1) If we have a replacement already lined up for Figueroa then I would let him go to be honest. He isn’t performing & £4mill is daylight robbery. I do agree with the poster who says that with decent coaching he is a good player (look at him under Bruce) but at present he is someone who isn’t contributing much & we don’t seem to perform any worse when he isn’t playing – albeit against Newcastle his replacement cocked up & that led to the goal
    2) To sell Rodallega now would be suicide. It looks like one striker is already on his way out so that leaves us with 2 strikers, one of who is injured & doesn’t look like he could hit a cow’s @r$e with a banjo even when fit. As we only play with 1 up front Rodallega’s replacement would need to hit the ground running & would have no time to settle in, adjust to Bobby’s “system” or any of that. I’d love to say I have confidence that Bobby has a replacement lined up who could hit the ground running but with his track record of strikers (4 signed, £12mill spent & all of em duffers) but I don’t

Was the last World Cup THAT long? Personally, I thought they flew through it. (good, as it was sh…not very good)
Basically, it would mean all January’s games are put back, as are any postponed games from December. It’s a no go. As for playing on through the World Cup. No way.

Blatter and co still think that people think that international football is still the top of the game. It isn’t.

It’s up to our FA to stand up to them and say ‘no way’.

Just a thought, but how old will Blatter be in 2022? Might be in a timber suit, by then. (Best Russian Oak, probably  )

The last world cup ran from June 11th to July 11th which was 4 weeks & 3 days (just checked the BBC website!!)
Like I said, 4 to 5 weeks for the tournament, 3 weeks prior to that training for it & a minimum of 2 or 3 weeks after. Its a complete no go & is not somethign that i can see any European nation agreeing to (with the exception of the Scandavian countries who are on there close season then anyway & maybe Russia too). I just can’t see how its workable

i think our FA would need to make sure that it wasn’t going it alone though by standing up to this particular idea. I think as the recent vote showed, we aint exactly the most popular country in the world. It would create the biggest problems in Britain but its also major problems for the countries that do have winter breaks too & I believe some of em are already making noises that they wouldn;t agree to it

As far as I’m concerened Qatar’s bid was successful (amongst other things) on the guarantee that they could hold games in June. Now they’ve been awarded it they are rumoured to be saying that its a problem – if it is & they can’t stick to what they proposed then they should be stripped of the right to hold it. Although I can’t see that happening

in reply to: Jewell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #55164
Jay, strangely enough it was PJ’s decision not to take the team until after Wed ! To me that doesn’t send out a good vibe to the players !!

i think it does send out a good message to the squad. From what i can gather he has basically acknowledged that it was Roy Keane & his squad/preferred starting team that got the club to this stage & it wouldn’t be right of him to come in 2 days before the semi-final, pick his own preferred players from what he’s seen in training & get em to use his style of playing – possibly in the process not picking players who’ve been involved all the way through & causing resentment within his squad straight away

in reply to: Blatter and the World Cup #55163

As often seems to be the case it would seem that Sepp Blatter has opened his mouth without engaging his brain whereas the dates of the 2022 World Cup are concerned

He is basically asking almost the whole of European football to completely mess up their schedules for a number of seasons & as some of these FA’s are amongst the most powerful I can’t see it going through

I take VAT’s point about some countries having a mid-winter break anyway but shifting the world cup will effect them just as much. At the moment they have a bit of time off & then some fitness training the remaining time off + friendlies etc.. & I believe lasts anything from 2-4 weeks.
The World Cup itself takes the best part of 4-5 weeks to complete. On top of that the managers of the national sides always want 3-4 weeks with their squads for training & friendlies. The clubs would not then want their players coming straight back & playign domestic football as come the seasons end they would all be crying about fatigue & injuries so add another 2-3 weeks on to that.
So you could be looking at anything from a 2-3month break in the middle of the season which basically takes you to the start of the next season
I know that the summer world cup effects some countries seasons anyway so FIFA would have to look at how they adapt but these countries have been doing it for years. Its also not something that could be a one off & then back to normal the season after too so would have to be phased in over a number of seasons & european football has the euro championships every 2 years so that aint possible either

the only other option as someone has mentioned is to get the clubs to play through the world cup but I can hardly imagine the United’s, barcelona’s & real madrid’s of this world (not to mention all the other cluubs) being happy about seeing virtually all their 1st team squads decimiated for 2-3 months

I’m getting a whiff of Manc tendancies here…..lol.

probably  – although I said exactly the same thing to one of the caretakers here at work (Toxteth) who used to go home & away, European away games etc.. through the 80’s & his exact words were “He walked out on us. I don’t want him back”

in reply to: Bolton in the next Round #55076

15 quid is actually lower than i thought it was

However bearing in mind the teams that both sides put out on Saturday (albeit against lower league opposition), bearing in mind the weakened side Bobby put out against Arsenal in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup, bearing in mind Bolton could only name 5 subs against us in the league & bearing in mind that both clubs will have had to have played 8 games in the previous month & that the 4th round tie is sandwiched between 2 midweek league games, I still think its a bit high a price to expect Latics to take a following any higher than was there last week

in reply to: LIVERPOOL FANS #55069

What I don’t understand with them is why they have been chanting Dalglish’s name for months as a saviour

As an outsider looking in Dalglish took over a bloody good team built up by the likes of Paisley & Fagan & barely added to it but was very successful. When those players started to age & you could see the side was on the wane, he jumped ship & left them in the complete mess which Souness inherited & from which they’ve never recovered
At Blackburn he spent the sort of cash no manager had ever been blessed with before, won the league, saw the players wanted to leave to go to bigger clubs & jumped ship again coz he didn’t have the stomach for the job ahead
The less said about his time at Newcastle & Celtic the better

Yet now the Mousers are hailing him as their saviour & he’s talking about wanting to be at the forefront of their rebuilding process. Pity for them he didn’t want to do that 20 years ago

in reply to: Bolton in the next Round #55067

bearing in mind that its highly likely that both managers will put out weakened sides for this game & that the FA makes clubs charge a minimum entrance fee per round which is relatively high (compared to the cheapy deals clubs can do for the Carling Cup) then I can’t really see Latics selling out the same allocation we were given last week & certainly not if we were given the whole of both tiers.

I’d anticipate the Bolton end being similarly sparse too
