Bobby Zamora won’t be offered a new contract at QPR apparently. I’d get him signed before Cardiff sign all the available strikers and we’re left with Holt.

I read that he is/was on £60k a week at QPR so I doubt that he’s in Latics price range

in reply to: Financial Fair Play #131499

When Dave took Latics over there was no FFP rules in place. Yes we had a benefactor far outweighing our turnover etc but we didn’t bend any rules.

Nor were we the highest spenders in the league at the time.
To be fair, QPR’s big spending under Fernandes was done before FFP was brought in & they weren’t signatories to the football league’s rules either.
Having committed to big money, long term contracts prior to being relegated to the football league, there was absolutely no chance that they would be able to comply with them once they were in the Championship. Whilst still spending way more than they bring in they have also shifted a lot of players off their wage bill.

If Fernandes had come in after the football league’s FFP rules & splashed out £100mill but he didn’t & their transfer outlay last season of about £10mill was less than they received from the parachute payments. The rest of the players they brought in were (like Latics) either freebies or loans

in reply to: Derby or QPR??? #131436

Derby for me, & from what I saw of the 4 play off games they are head & shoulders above QPR in terms of quality.

As we know though, unfortunately that’s no guarantee Derby will win

In defence of Redknapp, as much as I don’t particularly like him its a bug bear of mine that he gets accused of crippling 3 clubs – he didn’t. He identified players he wanted & the owners authorised how much a transfer fee would be & how much they’d get paid. Not Redknapp. If at any point either the transfer fee or wages were out of their budget, all they had to do was say no (at which point admittedly redknapp would have probably looked to move on)

”Can’t really complain”.

Don’t worry, somebody will!

People already have – when I clicked on the link on facebook earlier today, one poster questionned whetehr he’d missed something & Latics had actually got promoted if he was being asked to pay more
Someone else said that as prices went up last season they expected a price freeze this season as there are no Europa games & they missed out on promotion

i thought that Latics had a bad record in the play offs, but that’s something like the 9th time they’ve been involved in them & they haven’t got promoted through them once

McArthur has shown great responsibility under Rosler.

Everton will have to pay £2.5 million to sign Barry permanently, so he is likely to go elsewhere.

I’d say McArthur is likely to resume his midfield partnership with McCarthy.

Not saying McArthur won’t go to em but £2.5mill is not beyond the budget of Everton if that is the asking price

in reply to: who will stay/go ? #131014

I think on another Latics website that Gomez has given an interview where he intimated that he was gonna sign a new deal if we got promted but not if we didn’t (I haven’t read it myself but that’s what has been posted about it), so he’ll be off.
Beausejour has by all accounts refused to even discuss a new deal, so he’ll be off too.
I wouldn’t imagine that Crainey will be offered a new deal so he’ll be off
I think Boyce & Caldwell are out of contract but presume they will be offered new deals – whether they’ll want them or not is another matter but I can’t see top flight clubs wanting them

Of the players in contract I think we’ll get bids for:
Ramis
McArthur
Maloney
McManaman
We’ll do well to keep hold of the 4 of them

God knows what they’re gonna do with Grant Holt

in reply to: James McArthur #131010

We lost control of that game when he went off

Absolutely spot on.

Those of you who thought that Espinoza was “the answer” probably realise why the rest of us didn’t know what the question was.
To be fair to Espinoza, as someone else has pointed out, he isn’t a like for like swap with McArthur – its a bit like taking a centre forward off & putting McArthur in his place. It also seemed to me that Espinoza was pushed out to the left & Maloney went more central after McArthur went off

I don’t think Espinoza did anything wrong when he came on – its just that he can’t do what McArthur can do (& vice versa) & there was a shuffle round of personnel. Combined with QPR’s change in shape it took the game away from us

in reply to: One person to blame #130973

I thought his team was bobbins tonight but till McArthur went off it was working a treat.
Once he went off I hired we lost control of the middle of the park & started to go long bit had none up front even remotely capable of wining or holding up the ball up front

EDIT:’ that should say “once he went off I thought we lost control” !!!!

caldwell, tin hat ?
he has a fooking tin head time to get shut

I rest my case

in reply to: Tin hat for Caldwell #130964

Caldwell lunged in like a clumsy prick for the first QPR goal.
Kiernan fell asleep to let Zamora have the time to lob the ball in for Austin. Barnett wasn’t alert enough to pick up a bog standard run from Austin.
And Carson sold himself way too early before Austin even got to the ball leaving him an easy tap in.

4 players at fault as each other for 2 goals yet the internet is full of gobshites blaming Caldwell for us going out.

Not having a go at anyone in this thread by the way just a but pished & annoyed at people who can’t wait to jump on the scapegoat bandwagon!!
