He’ll probably take Powell from us in January just to sit on the bench like Mr Kone.
If this comes off I will be convinced that Martinez just wants to see us fail. :(
I think that his actions in his current post are more indicative of him wanting to be as successful as possible there rather than any malice towards his previous employers – that includes if he is also making noises about bringing Powell in
[no the facts are
around 300 seats ripped out in the ajax end at parkheadundercover police attack celtic supporters
bigoted banners in clear view of tv cameras inside stadium for which they have been fined for
now , if I know people who went were there then ive got a good chance I know what the hell was going on there , seeing as I know and trust this person
a point I was also making this could have happened at brugge , thankfully it didn’t and we had a great time, but, due to the way the small following of marabor fans behaved in wigan and them being a bit nasty this could easily happen in Slovenia, again I hope it doesn’t . got it yet ?You could have just answered my last question with a yes you know!!
What Ajax did with seats at Parkhead is irrelevant to this post.
The banner has some relevance in terms of some evidence of Ajax supporters dislike of Celtic (but id does not indicate the police attitude. Also, considering Celtic have been fined but bearing in mind the amount of times that Celtic have been censured by UEFA for their fans sectarian/bigoted chants then it is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black I’m afraid.
The “undercover police attack Celtic supporters” is not by any stretch of the imagination a fact I’m afraid. Some Celtic fans say that is what happened. The police in Amsterdam say it was the other way round. Not saying that your mate isn’t trustworthy or genuine in what he has told you but unless he was everywhere at the same time he is only basing what he told you on what he saw where he was & second/third/fourth hand accounts. Like I said if I’d been stood around where that footage I’ve seen ended up, I might have thought that it was an innocent supporter being attacked by plain clothes police. If however I’d been stood 300 yards further up the road where the incident began & where the footage doesn’t show you the chances are I’d have a completely different viewpoint. I remember a game away at Stoke when Rioch was in charge. Waiting for our coaches after the game the police started sending in snatch squads & draggng out Latics fans who at the time appeared to be doing nowt wrong. Find out months later when a mate of mine had to go to court that what they were doing was arresting people who’d be ID’d on the CCTV smashing seats inside the ground. The point is that those who witnessed the arrests pretty much all thought they were grabbing innocent people whereas in actual fact the was a reason for it which had took place 15 minutes earlier
And when people have seen bits of stuff & it gets passed on & passed on the truth invariably gets diluted. Take that Stoke game after Matthews had died. I was sat about 5 yards from it. I saw the build up, I saw the start of it & I saw the end of it, so I know what happened but I’ve heard God knows how many different versions of why & how it started from people who know someone who heard from someone that knows someone that was sat near it that are a million miles away from what actually took place
As for the Celtic fans just doing what latics fans were doing in Brugge. I didn’t go so can’t really comment but I have seen photos & video footage from mates that did go & from that it does not appear that Latics fans treated the square where most were based in Brugge anything like as appallingly as some Celtic fans appear to have done from the footage I’ve seen.
I’m going to Maribor so if owt happens I can give my view of it but it won’t be the whole facts it’ll just be bits of what i saw.I should also point out that I have no feelings either way for Celtic or Rangers & all the baggage that comes with it. Nor do I particularly agree with everythign the original poster said but don;t try to pass yourself off as neutral & dealing strictly with facts coz you’re clearly anything but
EDIT – I also meant to say in a previous post that some Celtic fans were blaming the bigotry & prejudice in the land of king billy from the police & weren’t mentioning the Ajax fans at all
You’re not exactly in the same league as Switzerland when it comes to neutrality are you?
Perhaps not ,i’m just dealing with the facts
Is the definition of “facts” in your dictionary “What a Celtic fan tells you”?
[still not answered he question , where will they have got that insult from? That’s coz I can’t answer it – just like you can’t
They may have got it from a deep heated hatred of Irish Catholics going back to the time of William of Orange
They may have got it from the Rangers groups they are allegedly friendly with
Or they may just have known what insults to throw to offend Celtic fansI don’t have to be an anti-Semite to know what language will offend a jew or a racist to know what language will offend a black person. I wouldn’t use that language but plenty of people do & say it’s just to wind the other group up
Most of the people Latics fans who have changed “Town full of P**i’s” whilst visiting the reebok & Boundary Park probably don’t consider themselves racist but just do it for a laugh or to wind em up. That doesn’t make it okay but nor does it mean they do it coz they all have a deep seated, historical grudge against Pakistani’s from centuries agoreally thats dead clever? thats why ajax are being fined for have a “fenian bastards” flag up behind the goal , now tell me were would they get that from?Probably from the same kind of moronic brains that think its funny to make hissing noises or sing songs about Auschwitz to supporters of clubs like Tottenham & indeed Ajax as opposed to any genuine bigotry or prejudice against that faith.
You are aware that Ajax & their supporters have traditionally been known as a Jewish club aren ‘t you? so it’s unlikely that any reference to Fenians came as a result of a long term support for King Billy & his Protestant brethrenIf you need transfers and ideas for things to do, http://www.thetravelpuzzle.com ask Joanne, have special rates for Wigan Athletic fans…. she is already arranging transfers, skiing, hotels, restaurants, beer/wine tasting at breweries/vineyards, river trips and nightclubs for over 200 who are going.Costs is similar to train if not cheaper, but you won’t have to hang around.
I’ve already been in touch with her thanks – she’s really helfpul.
When I e-mailed her (back end of last month) she was honest enough to say to me that she could arrange a transfer for us for 50euros (each) but that she thought it would be a better & much cheaper option to get the train & also that although the Slovenian rail website says that the quicker trains need booking in advance, they don’t. She also said that (at the time) I was the first person to ask about a transfer from Ljubljana from that flight
She’s also given me her mobile numbers & said that if anything goes wrong travel wise that she will send someone out to help us
Hotel (Pension) has been booked since 31st August but I hadn’t thought of asking her about sightseeing & clubs & staff. I’ll get back in touch & see what she’d be able to sort for this rafty thing!! :silly:That said, someone else has contacted her & she gave a note of caution that “if Wigan win, I hope you can run”!!!
Celtic fans in a city that favours the colour orange? It was always on the cards that there would be trouble.
Believe it or not, some Celtic fans were genuinely pinning the bother on bigotry & prejudice against them from “the land of King Billy”
Very giddy!!
Was looking at all the train info from Ljubljana to Maribor yesterday. Been planning our itinerary whilst in Maribor too & looking forward to going up the river on some raft with an oom pa pa band whilst partaking in the local brews!!Part of me is hoping that Latics still need to take something out of the game to add a bit more spice to the trip. I’ll still enjoy the trip if Latcis qualify after the Zulte game on the 28th but I’d rather the Maribor game not be a dead rubber
the evidence is out there about Amsterdam , plenty of you vids and have read plenty of reports from people who were there , like I said this could have easily have been bruge it could quite easily be Maribor too , take care and don’t believe spouting idiots like Donny page is all im sayingFollowing on from your original post, I’ve read the reports from some people who were there & seen the youtube clips on a Celtic website showing “innocent Celtic fans being beaten by undercover coppers”
As someone said on the website I saw it on, show me unedited footage of the events. The youtube clip I’ve seen is so heavily edited as to make it absolutely worthless in helping to decide what went on – for instance showing one bloke legging it shortly before he is set upon by 4 plain clothes coppers just makes me think what the hell happened for that bloke to come legging it from all the way over there with those coppers following him whilst they’re ignoring everybody else.
The coppers claim they were attacked, some Celtic fans say they were attacked – the truth is probably a bit of both at times. One thing I will say though after seeing the footage is that the footage before the violence does the Celtic fans on it no favours. I’m no prude & have been all over the shop & in all sorts of states of drunkeness watching Latics but I’ve never shown so little respect for somewhere as to leave or fling my rubbish everywhere or lob & smash beer bottles all over the shop. There’s “having a good p**s up” & there’s treating a place like s**t & some Celtic fans were clearly doing the latter
i prefer to keep it nuetral .really??? Maybe you should try it then coz that post certainly wasn’t
Undercover Amsterdam police attacking random Celtic fans (never heard of it happening to any other club’s supporters who’ve been to Ajax)??? Just having a good pish up …. not like Rangers fans …. last time they had a game in Europe with any meaning??
It all sounds very neutral
Come to think of it, didn’t Rangers blame the police for instigating the trouble in Manchester city centre?
I detect a themeThe freedom that many of our armed forces personnel have sacrificed their lives for gives us the right to decide (within limits) what we will or won’t do. That includes having the right to decide whether or not to wear a poppy – I saw plenty of people on my way into work this morning not wearing one but I didn’t feel the urge to wind down my car window & boo them
In his particular case, whilst I’m not saying he is right or wrong or justified or not as I know nowhere near enough to comment, but if I came from a community that I felt had been on the receiving end of discrimination by the British Army I might feel reluctant to wear a poppy. Likewise, Roy Keane & Martin O’Neill are free to feel otherwiseGoal & associated memories aside, the best bit of that particular clip is Ian Wright pishing himself laughing in the background – I’d always assumed that it was at the commentator but maybe he just really hates City & found their imminent defeat hilarious
I didn’t see or hear matchday live, but I think that it may have something to do with Latics current sponsors as gambling is only legal in 4 very small & remote areas of the country so I’d assume that it’s illegal to advertise it outside of those areas
Runners up 48 weve just started playing rl 5 years ago (France) 0
That’s just not true I’m afraid – France has a very long history of playing rugby league down in the South West. Catalan XIII, Perpignan, Toulouse etc were playing long before Super League invented Catalan Dragons, and France were regular opponents of Great Britain.
And it was banned by Hitler I believe during the occupation
Injury problems aside, if used as a penalty area/6 yard box poacher I think he would be a good signing.
His 1 goal from open play this season & the own goal v Blackburn have shown that when in those areas he can make things happen.
Employed as a lone striker who appears to be expected to play with his back to goal, win the ball, hold it up, lay it off & then get into the penalty area & generally keeping 4 defenders occupied on his own, then I don’t think that he’ll ever work.
Norwich played to his strengths. Coyle seems to play to his weaknessesIt’s not often you talk much sense but you have give it a good go here.
Don’t worry, normal service will soon be resumed
