Course they will but 12 points lighter and a two year embargo.
500 million pounds turned over in 11 premier league season’s. 170 million written off in debts and still can’t pay their way. Promotion won two years ago and safety met last season by still living above their means.
Hope they get the treatment Rotherham got. Newport, Aldershot,Maidstone fans will be watching.

Newport, Aldershot & Maidstone all folded in the days before the Football League had penalties for entering administration etc.. When Newport folded, they weren’t even in the football league
They also all folded as they were declared bankrupt and could not continue to operate (I think Maidstone only had 2 registered players at the start of the season they folded & never played a game in). If Bolton are ever declared banrkrupt they will also cease to exist

Not quite sure why what’s happening to Bolton is of relevance to fans of those 3 clubs

The Scottish international side has been wrecked by The English Premier League.

If Scotland was producing decent enough players then they’d be playing in the Premier League – the fact is that they’re not.
I’m not saying that it hasn’t had some impact just as it has on the English side as there are fewer opportunities but the Scottish team’s problems run a lot deeper than just the premier league (I did catch a programme on it on TalkSport once a few years back & if I could remember most of it I’d list a few of them)

If you pick the right song its brilliant for keeping the crowd on their feet after we score. Big yes from me.

I see it differently Nuneaton – there’s few sports that see such spontaneous & prolonged celebrations for things than football and its that spontaneity & hell for leather celebrations that are one of its attractions for me.

I know it’s an extraordinary game & example, but think back to the FA Cup final in 2013. Remember how you felt, remember how you celebrated & then think about the celebrations that were all over youtube & social media (“OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!!”) and then think about the celebrations that were on TV (some fella with long hair looking like he was gonna explode whilst punching the air & another bloke behind him with an inane grin on his face, eyes popping out of his head whilst just grabbing & shaking anyone within reach of him)
Now go back to that moment & within a few seconds, cut it all dead by playing some music that does nothing but stop everyone’s spontaneous celebrations & has everyone doing some crappy, cheesy co-ordinated dance

Keep the goal music or similar for ice hockey, rugby league or 20/20 cricket but please keep it away from football

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No

That’s a one word answer – just given 8 times

in reply to: Nick Powell #171457

What is the club supposed to do though?
I’ve no doubt that the club has spoken to him about a new contract & he’s either indicated that he’s not interested or said that he is & discussions are ongoing but not certain.

If there’s any indication that Powell won’t sign then the club has to listen to offers – at the moment we have an asset that (if on a long term contract) is worth £10mill-£15mill in today’s insane market
However, with less than a season to go on his contract, if he has indicated that he won’t sign a new one then the club has to make a decision about whether to lose that asset for nothing or lose it for the alleged £5mill that some clubs are offering now.
Takeover or not, Latics aren’t in a position to turn their nose up at £5mill club no matter who that player is

I will ask you what I posted above, what if Powell refuses to leave, what can WAFC do about it.[/quote]

Absolutely nothing – although I guess they could tell him that he won’t be picked, will train with the kids etc.
Not saying they would (or that it’d even be considered) but that’s about their only other option than saying okay & carrying on as normal

Looks like a foul to me – puzzled with Cook saying that he (the ref) had all the other officials telling him it was a foul though.

No 4th official would ever try to come in on a decision from that far away. Same for the asst on Cook’s side too. Doubt that they would also have tried to drop the ref in it like that either.
It may have been that Cook asked em & they said they thought it might have been a foul from thei angle but the ref was in the better place to make any decision

    Tilders what dust reckon Mon?

Been away at a music festival in Norfolk all weekend and not seen the highlights
I’ll have a look later when I get home & give my expert opinion

Funnily enough I thought both of them defended very well tonight & I noticed Robinson being nearer to the centre halves when Latics were playing it out from the back.

Neither of them were as good going forward though.

Why can’t we just have everything??!!

    in reply to: Defending #171304

From what I’ve seen, the whole back line needs time to gel (including Walton) as a unit.

I also have some concerns about the defensive abilities of both James & Robinson at full back – I thought it when we played Wednesday & from seeing some of the goals on telly since then.

Take the first goal on Saturday, Latics were playing it out from the back & one of our centre halves had the ball – for me Robinson should have dropped close to the centre half to offer himself as an option, but not only did he not do that, he was in the opponents half meaning Morsy had to drop deep.
When Morsy messed up, Forest’s right winger bombed forward to offer himself as an option to the bloke in possession. Robinson not only didn’t pick him up but he didn’t even move.
His defending was also poor for during the build up to the penalty in injury time

Nit picking I know but it is an area of concern & also one the Cook has alluded to in his post match comments from Saturday about “Jedi”

On the flip side, let’s not get ahead of ourselves as it’s only 3 league games into the season

He’s definitely a good un but I think that it’s likely to be next summer before there’s any serious attempt to prize him away from the DW – the sort of club’s who’ll be interested will wanna see a full season’s work & this level

    in reply to: Referees #171253

It’s designed to stop the situation whereby an assistant flags for a penalty/foul that the ref is looking at and doesn’t think is a foul – the ref’s in charge & all that. It is a proper pain as a ref when your liner starts flagging for stuff that isn’t in their area of credibility (usually from the touchline to the penalty area & an imaginary line up to half way in their half)

At the level I got to every single ref will say don’t flag for any appeal for a penalty unless I look at you and ask. We weren’t mic’d up so in those circumstances it has to be a flag although some just ask you to nod or shake your head so it looks like they’ve given it.

From ref’s I know that run the line in the professional game they say that at that level virtually every ref will tell them that they’re there for throw ins & offsides and nothing else. Some have even had refs shouting down the mic not to give anything for incidents happening right in front of them!!

    in reply to: Referees #171239
Agreed and I said that at the time.

Their penalty was a penalty but I would love to know why he changed his mind from “no go away” to “penalty” because the assistant didn’t flag.

Knowing how refs work & their body language I don’t think he was saying “No” when he was getting chased. “Go away” definitely but not no – there was no shake of the head to signify a no which there would have been had he said it.
I don’t think he saw the incident clearly as a Latics player stepped across his line of vision just when the challenge occurred. He then watches where the shot goes before chucking a quick glance at the assistant & backing away from the Forest players. Then he keeps telling em to go away which they ignore.
I think during this period he’s asking the assistant whether it was a foul over their headsets. The asst must tell him yes & thats the poInt when he points to the spot.

Assts no longer put the flag across their chest for a penalty & at that level he won’t want his asst flagging for a penalty that he should have been in a position to see.

He didn’t handle it well coz he should have stood his ground & insisted the Forest players backed off before making it obvious he was speaking to his asst and then awarding it.

As it is he made it look like he hadn’t given anything before changing his mind after getting chased by the Forest lot. I may be wrong & that is what actually happened but I don’t think so

    in reply to: Referees #171228
So I take it the referee must have thought it was accidental!!! What a load of bollox, he pulled Grigg down on purpose to stop him scoring so it should have been a straight red.

For a straight red the foul still has to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
At the point the foul was made, Grigg didn’t have control of the ball, the ball was still very high in the air and there was no guarantee that Grigg could’ve reached the height of the ball at the angle he was running at & the keeper could also have come out to claim it.
Bearing all this in mind you can’t say that it was an obvious goal scoring opportunity so deliberate pull back or not, it wasn’t a sending off – if he’d had the ball under control or was literally on the verge of heading it then yes it should have been a red. But it wasn’t, so under the laws of the game a caution was the correct decision no matter how unfair it might seem

    in reply to: Referees #171217

Looking at it as a ref rather than a Latics fan, I think the ref got both the 2 big decisions right (& any cards issued for also right) imo

Can’t comment on the rest as I wasn’t there & he didn’t handle the Forest penalty situation well but he got it right
