Great to see a premier league sized crowd at the stadium however was there any need to replicate a premier league sized defeat ?? 8618 Gawd help them if they were!!
One of the worst games of football I have ever witnessed and that spans nearly 50 years.Great to see the old games with crowds that came tumbling out the pubs at five to three and walked on for a fraction of the cost of today’s prices.
Standard was good but fitness levels were lower which made for a better spectacle in my view.
Used to love Sunday afternoons as a kid with ‘kick off ‘and Commentators like Gerald sinstadt , Hugh Johns and Brian Moore.
Just brilliant and far better than the corporate boring feel of today.SUNDERLAND PREDICTION – 20587 Solid vital win borne more out of sheer character and desire than actual performance on the night against a desperate team with nothing to play for other than their own pride.
They played out of their skin as best they could after picking up very early on that the ref was card ‘miserable’ rather than card ‘happy ‘ so the game never flowed due to all the stoppages and scrappy play.
James Mclean was easily the man of the match and his character and desire drove us on to the win which gives a fantastic 5 point cushion now going into the game on Friday.
Win there and it could be 8 points clear on saturday morning so a massive incentive for us to go over there in our favoured mode as underdogs for the win.Looked a nasty one before kick off and would have been had that ball not hit the bar 15 minutes in.
The penalty shout most certainly got the crowd going and the players after that.
The new striker is settling in I think and could have scored and he reminds me of wyke.I thought he had a very good second half to be fair and pulled their defenders about enough to get the wide play going.
Sheff Wednesday muted that the other night ,Charlton. Didn’t.
Onwards and upwards , blip over I think !9335 A very poor result that has been on the cards for many weeks arguably since the Cambridge away game.
I hope it is just a blip and we are simply not getting the ‘rub of the green’ at the minute, two clear cut chances missed and some very iffy decisions.
Pressure is on now and he needs to shake it up massively for Saturday.10453 BTW Goals galore why not keep these amusing posts going for every game?
Best post I’ve read in a while
Agree 100% , play both teams and stuff it up the bar stewards !!!I see Paul Cook is second favourite for the job behind Grant McCann. Great post Goals , shades of a disgraced Radio football correspondent who wrote in muchthe same way.
The players that got the club to Wembley In the tournament I’d expect to play there.
I also agree that bringing under 21 sides has devalued this competition beyond The Micky mouse category in my view.
If we get to the final play the kids and give them some vital experience and the supporters who want to have a nice day out.In any division of football the period after the turn of the year is harder as teams start to fight promotion and relegation battles.
Reality kicks in and we have seen from the last two games how teams can hurt us when they play direct route one style.
Every game from here will be as tough and the manager needs to
Bring them down to earth because despite the win yesterday I felt we showed a lackadaisical approach after we went 2 up.
Could easily have gone in at half time 3 or 4 up and game finished.
They obviously picked up on that and got back into the game and I’m thinking we will have many games like the one yesterday in the run in.
That said the character this Latics team has is arguably the best I have ever witnessed in my 40 plus years of watching the club and it was that that grabbed the win yesterday when things were not going well.
Big month coming up and a very tough run of fixtures, a crucial part of the season for me.Great win tonight against a team fighting the relegation battle already and who gave it a fantastic go.
The lad Greg Leigh gave us so many problems and they looked weaker when he went off but he was one of several who stood out for them in my view.
A few scouts will be flocking to see them based on what i witnessed last night.
