Rotherham into the final on pens to interrupt their season in the final run in.
They didn’t play well last night and I reckon they are having a wobble as well at the moment so the top of the table is up for grabs and in our hands.
Take it as a blessing in disguise , no interruptions and no sulky players who wanted and failed to play at Wembley in a pointless final that most clubs treat as training exercise.
The FA cup final victory was worth the relegation without a doubt, was that meaningless trophy worthy of failure in the league ?
I do not think it was in any way shape or form.
Have a clear run in now with no interruptions and no risk of petulant players sulking because they didn’t get chosen for the final.
Face it , we are a far bigger club than 20 years ago and need to be in the championship to progress.
Get behind Leam and the lads and I am sure we will be celebrating at the end of April.

despise them more than any other club by light years, if they faded in to non league and disappeared it wouldn’t glean a pore of pity from me!

In the semis by accident in my opinion as the manager has used the tournament to blood some youngsters and keep the fringe players in the loop and ready if needed which some of them will be in the forthcoming weeks for sure.
If the club gets to Wembley then fine but still play the kids and reserves in the final because promotion has to be the number 1 priority and the second division will be far more lucrative than it has ever been if we get promoted especially if Everton and Leeds get relegated.
Its a nothing prize and the original idea being a revenue earner for cash strapped lower division clubs in the mid 1980s affected by low attendances caused by hooliganism and mass unemployment.
A few hundred grand prize or 10 million quid plus in increased turnover next season , no brainer in my view, far too big a gap to risk our important players.

The club needs to maximise every inch of the ground and create as much revenue as it can so great they are doing this.
Concourses need updating especially the east stand which is very basic compared to the west in my view.
Get the tellies working install more kiosks and make them worthy places to eat and drink.

Promotion out of league 1 has to be a priority surely given the financial rewards and the added factor of showcasing the club. The championship is far better than league 1 or a Pizza cup trophy final win at achieving that and there is also the unfairness of our relegation two seasons ago that still rankles massively.
We just have to get back there this season more out of principle than financial reasons and to me it feels like a crusade, a bumpy bus ride back to the big time but one that we are on nevertheless. You only had to look at the reaction of the manager and players at full time to see how much that nervy win against Wimbledon meant to them all.
Play a mix of fringe players and kids and promise them a turn at Wembley if they get there which is right and proper but give the first team lads a break for this one and at Wembley also.
i am sorry if this sounds negative but its a mickey mouse trophy especially since the premier league teams under 21s got involved.
More importantly the fact we won arguably the best and most historic domestic knock out cup in world football less than 10 years ago weakens it quite a bit in my view.
I fully appreciate its significance with some of our supporters after the wins in 1985 and 1999 but its prestige has weakened massively since then and it is just a sideshow these days for a club like Latics, a non event.
Good luck whatever team he turns out regardless but promotion is the priority for me this season back where we should be rightfully !

Hit and miss last night for me , we looked nervous and very leggy.
Little flashes of the form we show away from home but far too
Much giving the ball away and lucky they had zero threat up front all night.
As for McLeans stupid sending off at the end with that other clown , so stupid and pointless.
He is an important player and a great footballer on his day but the indiscipline needs addressing by the management in my opinion.

Great to see a premier league sized crowd at the stadium however was there any need to replicate a premier league sized defeat ??

One of the worst games of football I have ever witnessed and that spans nearly 50 years.

Great to see the old games with crowds that came tumbling out the pubs at five to three and walked on for a fraction of the cost of today’s prices.
Standard was good but fitness levels were lower which made for a better spectacle in my view.
Used to love Sunday afternoons as a kid with ‘kick off ‘and Commentators like Gerald sinstadt , Hugh Johns and Brian Moore.
Just brilliant and far better than the corporate boring feel of today.

Solid vital win borne more out of sheer character and desire than actual performance on the night against a desperate team with nothing to play for other than their own pride.
They played out of their skin as best they could after picking up very early on that the ref was card ‘miserable’ rather than card ‘happy ‘ so the game never flowed due to all the stoppages and scrappy play.
James Mclean was easily the man of the match and his character and desire drove us on to the win which gives a fantastic 5 point cushion now going into the game on Friday.
Win there and it could be 8 points clear on saturday morning so a massive incentive for us to go over there in our favoured mode as underdogs for the win.

Looked a nasty one before kick off and would have been had that ball not hit the bar 15 minutes in.
The penalty shout most certainly got the crowd going and the players after that.
The new striker is settling in I think and could have scored and he reminds me of wyke.I thought he had a very good second half to be fair and pulled their defenders about enough to get the wide play going.
Sheff Wednesday muted that the other night ,Charlton. Didn’t.
Onwards and upwards , blip over I think !
