Richard Marshall-Barbadian who didn’t like the winter weather
Agahowa- nothing needs saying
Mauro Moreno
pascal BrunoHad a feeling we would win today even though the kitchen sink approach didn’t seem to be working at all today.
Sheer graft and desire from the likes of McLean who has an unbelievable never say die approach that drove the others on another filthy afternoon weather wise.
The people that left early missed one of the best finishes to a game I have seen for many a year and it could be a very interesting run in.wigan athletic has supporters all over the world due to its past involvement in a GLOBAL televised league for eight years which is watched by nearly 5 billion viewers each year !
Ignore these clowns because Latics scaled the leagues on merit not luck and have made the point very very strongly that this town is very much a football one.
We just needed to prove it by getting on equal footing top flight status with the Rugby league club- when we eventually did we nailed this myth once and for all and they know it and that is why there is deep bitterness from them.
I take these jealous rants with a pinch of salt and a snide chuckle because they could win 30 grand finals and they won’t ever be as big profile wise as our FA cup victory last May !Cardiff City fans are already booking the sixth round – the effing arrogance of them !!
5 months in the EPL and we will be a soft touch -have a feeling we may turn them over !Great cup tie and some fantastic individual performances notably Ali and McLean who worked his but off down the left in probably his best performance since he came here.
Home draw please but no City,Arsenal or Liverpool !And he’s still shit!! ;) He’s got to do a lot more yet to win me over. Not the worst I’ve ever seen, but for all the possession/chances he has, he has to deliver more often and better, in my opinion. He did do OK today though, I’ll give you that.
He did ok – a very poor mans Valencia :)
Every neutral in the country as well as the TV execs groaned when Blunderland won that joke shoot out!
Yes he was one of the stars today -his work rate and break up play was excellent but I think james McLean edged it .
uwe seems to have improved McLeans distribution and he must have been a nightmare to deal with because you never knew what he was going to do however his attitude and work rate made him my man of the match.
not sure about Leona Lewis up front and just hoping some of that surplus transfer fund ( how is it spent FFS ????) is ready to be used on another striker.Great cup tie and some fantastic individual performances notably Ali and McLean who worked his but off down the left in probably his best performance since he came here.
Home draw please but no City,Arsenal or Liverpool !There were at least 12 Clubs that gave their vote a few days ago in favour, so there will certainly be at least 20% of the clubs voting for it….Who knows jayt ?
A generation has passed since the last major tragedy and maybe we should debate it out like we have just done in a mature and friendly way .
I used to enjoy standing on the very safe ‘pop side ‘ at springy however I did also stand on the very unsafe Hillsborough leppings lane .Some 15 months before the disaster I was in a the horrible crush and the fear I experienced that day lives with me still and It haunts me even now that the the authorities couldn’t see even then how dangerous that section of terracing was.
healthy debate is needed to argue this one out but I personally will take some convincing over the safety side.I also have watched football for close on 40 years, all of it watching Wigan , and a lot of it before all seater stadia came in.
I have also seen the safe standing areas in Germany in the last couple of years and because of the rail system there is no possibility of forward/backward movement and so no chance of crushing…. the only movement can be laterally.
In the years that they have been using the ‘standing areas’ there have been no more incidents than there were when those areas were seated.
A lot has happened in 25 years (which I think IS a long time ago) never mind 42 or 68 years.
The Taylor Report found that the main reason for the Hillsborough disaster was the failure of police control, meaning far too many people without tickets were getting in to the ground.
I personally think that the choice should be there, I loved standing whilst watching Wigan and think others should be able to do so if they wish to. Saying that, I wouldn’t now be one of those clambering to the standing area as I my kids who would be far more likely to whinge if they had to stand…..So to have SAFE standing areas the clubs will need more police to control the areas?
deffo not going to happen because the police bill would then fall at the clubs feet making the costs even more expensive than they are at the moment.
I agree with you that in life we should have choice and freedom however I also never want to see fatalities at football matches ever again- i doubt any club in this country will risk it to be honest. As much as I used to enjoy standing I would rather go to gamesand get home safely than run the risk of another tragedy.
Burden park 1946, Ibrox park 1971 and Hillsborough in 1989 saw multiple fatalities in terraced areas so it’s a no from me.
I do not think standing up on a crowded terrace is ever safe and I was involved in many crushes as a young lad that when I look back were down right dangerous.
No voteI think you’ll find all of these were due to overcrowding (plus a hell of a lot of other issues at Hillsborough).
If you had read the above or have seen the proposed system, overcrowding is not really an issue. The surge we experienced on terraces couldn’t happen on modern safe standing areas.
I am not trying to influence either way, but if you are to base your decision on what has happened a long way in the past and not on the proposed modern safe standing areas then you are not exactly being rational.
I
I hardly think 1989 is a long way in the past and there were many other incidents at grounds in the 80s that didn’t get media coverage which could have resulted in deaths -for me there can never be safe standing areas.
I am being rational and would draw anyone campaigning for the return of standing areas to read the Taylor report and the think of thegrief still being experienced by the families of the Hillsborough disaster .having experienced both seating and terracing during my near 40 years of watching live football I think I have a good grasp of the safest way to watch a sporting event and standing on steep concrete terracing amongst rushing crowds is not what I consider safe.As much as I used to enjoy standing I would rather go to gamesand get home safely than run the risk of another tragedy.

No voteRamis can’t be far away, he was in the gym at the wrightington on Friday late afternoon before the bournemouth game working on the
looked too much like Scott Green so was never a fan -can’t see why he is going to a rubbish club like Dismal palace ( zero trophies ,crap ground, going down)
I suppose the club has to cut its cloth although I’d lmagine we will have made a very healthy profit when the next books are released !Hmmmm -by my calculations we have about 14 million in transfer surplus from last summers sales.
Or are they playing it cool so they can bat down the prices when they approach their targets-whelan is a very canny operator. -
