Bobby right about us and other teams not getting a decisions from refs against the top clubs. Yesterday welbeck dived for the penalty, scholes 2 footed lunge on maloney, welbeck lunge on di santo , giggs streight through the back of boyce then welbeck again going down in the box and you can see ramis telling him get up why the ref looks on all these went unpunished
Yet Ferguson had the audacity to call us an AGGRESSIVE team in post-match interview :silly: :silly:
That and timewasters (Al Habsi…shades of Wenger /Arsenal at Emirates)
Ali reminded me of this mon yesterday. One of the worst goalkeeping performances by a Latics player for some years. Good job he has produced some of the finest too. Put united behind us and move on. Hardly any team wins at old trafford any road. What you actually mean to say is one of the worst team defensive displays by Latics for some time.
Shocking goals all four (Al Habsi, Ramis, McCarthy etc.) Masters of our own misfortune.
Ramis for me still looks slower than a week in Mallorca, mid-winter. Caught in possession yesterday (2nd), no attempt to tackle (3rd). Week in week out… defensively we are not at the races
Robbie interviewed yesterday said we are Work in Process.
Yet fundamentals (end 2011/12 season) are still in place (VM excepted) :
Back to Basics for Fulham (our bogey team) next week :
Al Habsi
Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figeuroa
Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour
Maloney, Di Santo, MiyaichiTough game anticipated …
Passed fit.Bollocks.
Just a pair of his bollocks playing will still probably trouble us.
Arsenal 1 Latics 2
Wasn’t too successful then ?!!!
Alcaraz and Beausejour missing, a bigger blow (big game for Ramis)
A minutes silence at Saturday’s games across the country would be most appropriate, as a mark of respect (and reflection by all) to all those affected.
Absolutely scandalous and shameful what has gone on !
SW
I was being a little too kind to Ramis, it appears.
Read below, by way of example, extract from Sunday newspaper (People)
SHOCKER – Ramis
‘Spaniard is slower than a week in a Mallorca hotel in mid-winter, and is taking time to adjust to the English game’
Ratings
– Caldwell 7
– Figeueroa 5
– Ramis 4Exposed to pace, on the left hand side, he’ll be taken to the cleaners by the likes of Valencia, Sinclair, Moses, Dyer, etc. etc. (personal opinion – given current form). Replay the Chelsea penalty to recap…
Figueroa + Beausejour please.
Ramis, toughing it out with Caldwell and Alcaraz for the other 2 spots, for me
Manure back 3 – Caldwell, Alcaraz, Figueroa (personal opinion)
Well, if The People say it’s so, who am I to argue?
‘…is taking time to adjust to the English game’ He’s played three games. How quick is he expect to adjust.
‘…he’ll be taken to the cleaners by the likes of Valencia, Sinclair, Moses, Dyer’ All of those players are wide players (bar Moses, who we’ll probably never see play again at the DW). Ramis is not a full back. The wingbacks are there to track these players with Ramis and Alcaraz or one of the Midfielders doubling up on them.
As I said before, if he was a full back, then yes, he’s way too slow.
De Zeeuw was never the quickest, nor are Tery, Puyol, or Vidic.
Pure and simple.. a number wax lyrical about Ramis. Personally, I have yet to be totally convinced. The People was obviously more disparaging than myself.
We have paid significant money (for Wigan) as I’m sure you appreciate. I would expect to see a return accordingly (improvement on 2011/12)
Quick adaptation to PL : e.g. Kone – One goal and one assist in first 3.
(Ramis – has played 4 games actually, incl. Forest)He has come up short on numerous occasions to date against the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Cox, and Jerome in one-on-one situations. His lack of pace compounded when he’s been challenged on the left (last man). Review your MOTD clips vs. Chelsea (Hazard, Oscar) by way of example…
Positional play also questionable – Hazard (goal 1 – Chelsea), ball-watching at throw-in (Jerome) in lead up to Stoke (Crouch) equaliser.
Some one made the point, Figueroa is not the best in the air. How the hell can anyone defend in the 6Y box a ball dropping out the sky against 8′ 10” Crouch, I ask yer ?!!! Delivery into the box should have been prevented in the first instance (switched off at throw in…). The damage had already been done.
Alcaraz and Caldwell historically prepared to take one (booking) for the team, if required. Same required of Ramis (pace, positional play, 1/1).
Back to Alcaraz (nasty, gives as good as he gets, goal in him), Caldwell (body on the line approach, good organiser / communicator) and Figueroa
for ME personally at Manure.Would like to see an injection in pace. Absent at Chelsea, didn’t see any improvement yesterday. Done by Jerome for pace until Ali, Caldwell (putting body on the line – similar required) saved the day.
Certainly, not up to playing LHS of defensive 3 (right footer, ltd pace)
Not anti-Ramis, but hope for / expect more ….. mobility, pace-wise.
Of course he was done for pace by Jerome. That’s because Jerome is a very pacey player who is considerably quicker than Ramis, Caldwell, Alcaraz, and many other Premier League centre halves.
I’m sure it’s just your opinion, not fact, that Ramis is not up to playing ‘LHS’, but the common perception is that in a back three you don’t necessarily have to be the quickest if playing left or right of the three as you tend to have a man sweeping up behind you and a wingback as support.
Also, if I’m being picky, I can’t see why being a right footed player has any bearing as he plays to the left of Caldwell, but is still more or less up the middle. If he was playing leftback, then yes, you might have a point.
Personally I thought he had a decent game, looked solid and distributed well – which is pretty much what you ask for in a centre half.
thought ramis was immense today.very good performance
Comfortable on the ball, yes.

Stoke – same tactics last year, we know what to expect..didn’t do too badly then. Clean sheet, 2-0 victory (Alcarez, Caldwell, Figueroa). Those three as a unit were pretty immense back end of last season, were they not ?
Whilst being disappointed that we were below par and rather off the ball today, at least we didn’t lose the game, when we easily could have.We seemed to lack that sharpness, although playing a physical team such as Stoke was always going to be difficult. Our game most certainly changed when we lost the lively Beausajour. His replacement, David Jones, was a little rusty, and he doesn’t look capable of beating his man to get a ball into the box. So we lost a major avenue of supply of balls into the box. Perhaps Gomez may of been a better option?
Di Santo was industrious, in fact, the whole team were industrious, we just lacked that final bit needed to kill off Stoke. Whilst not being overly disappointed with the result, if we are going to kick on as a club at this level, these are the types of games where we must take three points.
A major plus point was the goal Di Santo scored, created by great pace and work by Kone. I think if we can get a few decent through balls putting him in on goal, most defenders won’t catch him. Also, the introduction of Ryo Miaychi (sic?) showed him to be very lively, and not too dissimilar to Ji Sung Park, in his United days. Definitely a player to put on and improve attacking options.
So we’ve dropped 2 points. Could’ve been all 3, whilst we could also have nicked it. Time for Roberto to assess today and work out where we need to improve ourselves.
Positives
– Figs / Beausejour: quality on LHS (Jones ‘steady’, Beause. a big miss)
– Di Santo: 5 goals in last eight games
– Kone: much improved second-half performance
– Myaichi: very lively as Sub., impressed
– Al Habsi
– Didn’t lose the game
– Pushed for a winner to the endNegatives
– Beausejour injury
– Inability to capitalise and put the game to bed at both 1-0 and 2-1
– Pace in defence (e.g. Ramis done in last 5 by Jerome – Ali to rescue)
– Disappointed not to see McManaman make the bench (Crusat ?!)Next up (United)
– Beausejour and Alcaraz both back in (subject to fitness)
– Figueroa to start
– Tempted to start w/ Myiachi – pace/mobility/ball retention (Kone, sub)Seriously, let’s all get behind the boys in blue and white today, and support our lads into giving Stoke a footballing lesson.
The one thing I am worried about, is if Charlie Adams plays and clatters one of our midfield ‘artisans’. Not sure if he can play for them today, but, its a concern.
He can / does. Just so long as we don’t give away any cheap free-kicks (Adams, Crouch).
Interviewed yesterday, Adams looking forward to first victory of the season TODAY.
If any motivation were needed (Bobby, hope you saw SKY interview..), ..
Heres a few quotes off their board in regards to drawing us in the league cup…
“****ing Wigan.
What a **** draw”
“Time to beat the **** out of Ramis and Martinez.”
“Not the greatest of draws, fancied an away but will take Wigan at home and will be going to it and will be praying we dump the two bob northern ***** out the cup. ”
“Anyone who remembers the gloating at the DW last time will know we owe these ***** a shoeing”
It would seem the feeling is mutual ….
Can’t stand the bastards.
The 4-0 drubbing at their place in our first season in Division 1 when we had McCulloch and Jackson sent off whilst Thomaz Repka committed GBH on several occasions before shaking the referee’s hand on his way off.
The Brian Deane goal and following celebrations from their bench, fans and Alan Pardew. (the goal took them from 4th in the table to 4th)
The Tevez/Mascherano affair.
Their fans attitude towards the Tevez/Mascherano affair.
Their fans ideas that they have the right to be in the PL above us and the right to win trophies. It’s the academy of football and they won the World Cup you know.
Their vandolising of the North Stand two years ago after being relegated. (they ripped up seats, broke advertising boards, smashed the toilets up and flung rubbish all over the concourse)
I could go on and on
And on a more positive note, reasons why you should ADMIRE them…….
Significantly, in debt (£50-60M, I believe),
Still good proportion of £25M still to pay off to Sheffield United re. civil damages (Tevez / Macherano affair)
Still spending big bucks. Inflated wage bill re. likes of Diame, Nolan, Benayoun (latest addition), Caroll (min. £50K+ weekly), plus Jarvis etc.
(how many in the Wigan 1st 11 ????!).Carry on the good work Hammers …..mind you, still someway to go to hit the levels of QPR. Wages / turnover ratio last year: 181%).
Greatest satisfaction come May 2013: P*** poor performance by both West Ham and QPR – our London darlings, …no return on investment. Hughes made to look a complete p*llock (..’we won’t be in thjis mess again’)), Allardyce, more miserable than ever (if that’s possible ?)
Financial meltdown looms !
…has done quite well tonight for Chelsea. They have certainly found a position he is comfortable with. The way he slotted his tracky top over his shirt showed unbelievable skills. Even better was the way he pulled on his hi vis vest without breaking sweat. Then when you thought he’d done more than enough to impress RDM, he then outpaced both Sturridge and Oscar to the most comfortable vantage point in the stadium located just 10 metres behind the technical area.
As the match progressed, the way he kept himself busy moving from cheek to cheek was nothing short of brilliance.
Then to top off a fine nights work in the blue of Chelsea, he wanted no accolades, so sneakily skipped past a few stewards and brushed aside two AM subs with ease and darted down the tunnel.
Hope this magical debut for the CL winners has not taken too much out of him and he can go on and produce the same form over the next 35 EPL games for his new club.
Good Luck Victor! goodpost B)The reality of what he’s done must now start to kick in….
If he can’t get a game (30 mins ?) when his team have been clearly outclassed / his Manager has the perfect opportunity to get him on and give him the chance to give AM something to think about (nothing ventured, nothing gained..), then he hasn’t got a cat in hell’s chance of playing a decent number of games.
One for the pub quiz – last player to receive a European cup competition medal, without having played a game for his club………..VM.
Sure you’ll make the pitch one day ….
Fantastic how Martinez is promised this, that and the other…And after selling Sammon & Moses we should be buying in…Could well be that Moses sale financed Ramis and Kone purchases (always the intention that Moses would leave) and that Sammon sale has financed the Training ground facilities upgrade (£1.5m), requested by Martinez.
Maybe the performance at Forest was too good ? (perceived strength in depth across the pitch). Most those that came in did perform after all
(incl. last 10-15 min performances by Miyaichi and McManaman)Responsible financial management
The next 4-5 hours / tomorrow’s press will shed further light…
