sat watching on AlJazeera TV – live
never seen 2 such miserable Everton barstewards as Mssrs j Royle and A Gray(TV pundits) in all my life.
:) :) :)
here’s hoping
Alcaraz – collossal in defence – big miss all season (as often said)
Kone – fantastic up front
quality goals 2 and 3 – Gomez sublimeFFS lads keep it up in the League !!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Wouldn’t question so much the contribution of Gomez, as ask whether the front 3 of Di Santo, Maloney and Gomez is one that works ?? Not sure.
Whelan there today – wonder whether we’ll be dipping into our plentiful reserves in the coming days (speculate to accumulate). We are probably just about the worst team on current form (bar Newcastle) are we not ?
Southampton, QPR, Reading all picking up points.
We must start SOON. Missing Kone.
Who did hand ball it by the way .no blame intended ,most of the time nothing would have been given.
James McCarthy was the culprit and it was a stonewall penalty. He lifted his arms above his head and to the side, almost punching the ball away. He wasn’t the only one at fault though. Whoever was stood to the left of him seemed to leap out of the way of the ball. I’m not usually overly critical, but it was a really poorly defended set piece.
it gets worse, sat in the East stand, I specifically saw the ref gesture with his arms to the wall BEFORE the kick was taken (i.e. what to do / not to do re. defending of free-kick).
you’d think we would be aware of Sunderland’s expertise from free-kicks (Larsson ability re. cross /shot; Gardner’s re. shot (last year!) and yet in the first 16 mins, we’d already conceded 3 (2 to the left, 1 central, resulting in goal – when we ever learn ???
Boyce at fault for calamitous challenge (after Stam slip) resulting in free-kick (to penalty). Cost us a few now ….
Keep shooting ourselves in the foot !
Men against boys for 30 mins in 1st half today (quality of Fletcher, Larsson, Johnson, Gardner against …).
Only positive, Henriquez on the goal-sheet
PL: 10 mins – 1 goal (Mario Bosselli: 3 years – PL – Zero).
or even physio ?
That ship has sailed and is half way to south America.if his departure during JAN transfer window can part fund a newcomer, a goalscorer (Becchio /Leeds, whoever ….. ), then hopefully, he’s about to disembark
his time has been and gone.
His replacement surely can’t be anymore GOALSHY
PL goals – Zero; attempts on goal / no. passes – not many more !!!!
Move on ….
Possible televised game ??
What’s the betting he concedes a pen in his first game back !we’ve conceded more than anyone else, so there’ll be nothing new in that.
trust we won’t be 2 down, 7 played ;)
On Friday 11 January, Martinez said;“Antolin Alcaraz has fully recovered from a medical point-of-view but now it’s a case of bringing him up to speed after a long time out.
“We need to get him ready to be able to cope with the demands of a full game; he’s played 20 minutes in a game behind closed doors and in ten to fourteen days he’ll get to where he needs to be once again.”
Tuesday Bournemouth a
Saturday Sunderland h
Tuesday Stoke a
Saturday Southampton h
Saturday Chelsea a
Saturday FA Cup
Saturday Reading hHe could be back for Stoke or Southampton.
For the last 14 then … (countdown to great escape)
what a feckin miss this season
Too early to comment on the new boys not being included but I hope that the usual precedent will not be evident for too long !
Espinosa’s had less than a week of training so maybe he’s not yet up to match fitness.
Who will he replace though if he is going to be first choice?
Whoever said he was going to be first choice?
Dunno – but would he have come otherwise??
Hasn’t D. BA gone to Chelsea (even if / when Torres goes, they will spend big to replace) ??
Money? Put himself in PL shop-window (clause in 2.5 yr contract) etc etc
Just watched the game “as live” on Sky without knowing the result and have to say I am completely bemused.
In his post match comments Bob said sthg along the lines of being frustrated that we weren’t able to get the second goal, but what does he expect if:Franco is expected to both create and convert?
We lose Kone but replace him with a midfielder.
We have 3 strikers on the bench – all of whom have now had some game time, but not one even gets an injury time run out.Boselli must have been thinking that with Kone gone that today was his chance. He must surely be on his way out now right?
Listening to Talksport last night, subject-matter: some geezer (South American / Italian) Wet Spam are looking at.
Reference during the conversation to number of goals the guy had scored in the Argentinian league (prolific goalscorer) at which point one of the pundits quipped and the TOP SCORER in the league went by the name of MAURO BOSSELLI.
Both could then be heard falling to the floor in fits of laughter. Once composed, one of the pundits said ‘if Bosselli ain’t scoring (ZERO PL goals for Latics, if not mistaken), he ain’t contributing. So very true.
To my mind, plain to see in his body language at the Bournemouth game last week that he know’s his chance has gone and that he’s picking up a ‘wage’ and counting down the days to a Bosman.
He would have expected to have been in the first team, October onwards
(now or never). NOT that I agree AT ALL with that ‘expectation’Failure is rewarded in the footballing world (Managers, players alike)
Lo and behold…as per SUN today …
WIGAN will try to offload £6million misfit Mauro Boselli this month.
The Argentine striker, 27, made just FIVE passes in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw against League One Bournemouth.
incidentally, of the FIVE made, didn’t manage to find his man ONCE

His mistake Almost cost that hard won point yesterday and this will continue if the club continues with the ‘make do and mend policy’.
Ramis injury is a bitter blow and it’s ironic that the players the club paid cash out for last summer are not available at the moment.
They need to get some business done a s ap to shore up the weakness of that defence.for the sake of consistency, and if you were at the game (I was) you’ll find Ramis (Wigan’s own Usain B) was done yet again (for pace /trickery) in the pen area in 2nd half and got away with it thanks to his defence.
Stam’s ‘error’ no worse.
Figueroa’s clearance fantastic; probably his most significant contribution this season (points impact).
And very much in keeping with what’s required from ALL 11 from now on in – commitment to the cause etc.
Some you win, some you lose. When he was offered as a freebie he’d scored 15 goals in 103 games in the Spanish 2nd Division.
When he signed for Swansea he’s scored 15 goals in 37 games in La Liga.
We chose to sign Kone who’d scored 15 goals in 34 games in La Liga.
Not a lot in it really and who’s to say Kone wouldn’t be doing the same now had he signed for Swansea?
Not complaining re. Kone.
Kone and Michu …wouldn’t have been a bad double act, eh ?
Greedy ?? What the hell ! …
There has been quite a bit of talk on here about Al-Habsi.. Whether he is good enough etc and whether we need a back up GK to push him..
Would anybody take Craig Gordon?? .. Not the worst Keeper from what I remember.. Sure he had quite a big price tag at one point…
Anyway.. He is a free agent at the moment.. May be worth a punt depending on wages..
What are your views? B)
Wouldn’t go anywhere near him.
As injury prone at Kirkland and wouldn’t play for peanuts.
Incidentally who is questioning Al Habsi’s ability? He’s a very good Premier League keeper, and a couple of mistakes doesn’t suddently mean he’s become a bad one.
Precisely.
Ask yourself the question whether one (GK) wouldn’t be prone to the odd mistake, playing behind our ever-changing ‘frequently error-prone’ back-three every week
no wonder he’s a bit twitchy.
look at ‘world’s best’ (NOT) Joe Hart. Supported last year by the best defence in the league (Kompany etc.) Manager changes formation this, defence starts to leak, the once cock-sure JH not looking quite so smug now (club AND country).
Just for discussion, if you were looking for a number 2…. how about
wild card, Matt Duke (Bradford City).(1) Cheap and (2) incentivised to come to PL club and compete for 1st team spot.36 in June, possibly a touch too old on reflection ….
Yes, I agree with that JPC01. (Look James C. I’m agreeing with someone else)I think Matt Duke would be a very good 2nd goalkeeper. In my opinion not quite ready to hang up his boots, but not so young that he’d be itching to play every week. Good shout that – but I’ll think we’ll stick with Nicholls because by all accounts he’s becoming a very good goalkeeper.
Totally, totally agree with you two
Please minute that  ;)
