I’ve survived three New Year friends list culls, endured some of the most vomit-inducing love-ins, wince at some of the most ill-informed outright racist posts and had to cringe at comments like ‘GAW JUS’ when someone posts a picture of their fifteen year old son or daughter which gather 63 likes and 42 comments after 30 minutes.
Who do these narcissistic fools think they are that post that they are having a friends list clearout and if you can see this later you’ve escaped? Like I or anyone in the right mind would give a toss.
I moan like fook about it but it is car crash material and gives a great insight into the mentality and (lack of) intellect of the Great Unwashed.
Respect to anyone that gives to charity or anyone worse off but usually large donations are made by people that have it to spare and are rarely truly altruistic acts. Gerrard giving away six figure sums is a bit like me donating a tenner to Comic Relief. That’s not having a pop at Gerrard per se, that’s just the way it is.
Gerrad is allegedly on £150 per week. So for your tenner to match his £100k donation means you must be on £15 per week. I suspect you’re not. ;)
I get your point, but it isn’t actually the same. And even if he isn’t on megabucks, he still didn’t have to do it.
So after tax, Gerrard draws £75k PER WEEK. That’s around £320k PER MONTH. And he’s been on this kind of money for 10 years or so? Fair play to him for donating as he does but it is only a minute part of his worth. He doesn’t miss the money one bit and it’s a massive PR boost to boot.
Apologies for being cynical, and I may be very wide of the mark in Gerrard’s particular case, but charitable donations, appearances and endorsements do wonders for careers and upward mobility.
As does scoring a ponful of goals, earning over 100 England caps (many as captain)and single-handedly winning FA Cup and Champions League finals.
It’s pretty clear that this is full of the bitter, jealous bile that used blight David Beckham. I don’t particularly like the fella either but to dismiss his entire career because he’s (allegedly) a greedy bastard is quite pathetic.
That’s not aimed at you by the way, as I know you were only having a pop at his charitable work.
I’m not even having a pop at his charitable work, I guess I’m saying that there’s nothing particularly impressive about a very rich person giving money to charity. Now if he was walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End on his hands or even doing something as crazy as giving up drinking for January, it would be far more impressive ;)
The thread I started about his agonising decision wasn’t even aimed at him. It was aimed at the crass media coverage of it. He was in no agony over it. He woke up one morning and asked his missus if she fancied moving to ‘Americker’ and that was that, I reckon.

It was last night and I backed Sampdoria to win as the 7/2 on offer seemed very generous for a game where Lazio were third and Sampdoria fifth and on level points and some decent form behind them. At half time Lazio had had twelve shots on goal, Sampdoria none! Sampdoria ended up having two shots on goal all game, Lazio twenty one. There was something weird going on there!

That’s what pushed me over the edge to post Jimmy. Been on the radio and TV all day. Sure, a great player is coming to the end but surely ‘agony’ is not an appropriate word to be using to associate and to compare his plight with many of the Great British public. It’s verging on politically incorrect…
