I was thinking the same about your posts.

Revell for Rotherham on Saturday gave our defence (and the ref) a torrid time. I bet Mackay would give his right one for a player like that at the moment. I’d no idea who he was. He’s played for the might of Cambridge and Braintree but he was up for it and worked his nuts off all afternoon for them. That’s exactly what’s missing.

He couldn’t make the bench on Saturday, even in the desperate state we’re in. That speaks volumes with regard to what the manager thinks of his potential. I know the lad can do no more than score goals against Morecambe and Tranmere’s fourth teams, or whatever they are, but he’s not even an option for the first team, IMHO.

Perch was the only player to come out with any credit from Saturday’s game. Him aside, to call our defence rickety is a massive understatement. I was sh*tting bricks when Boyce and Barnett were knocking it around at the back.

Part of me wants to pot Callum to the bench

The whole of me does. Apart from that run early on he did nothing.

Us armchair managers can opine all day long but no matter how you perm it at the moment, it is going to be very hard for anyone to squeeze points out of this squad. Rock bottom on morale, confidence and talent right now.

Nuneaton – I didn’t ask why he only gave him five minutes; it was rhetorical. To me, it looks like Mackay thinks there more chance of a goal from McLean or McManaman than Delort and that’s why he didn’t start the game (or even be the obligatory on the hour substitution).

Tez – I’d try anything once except for incest, folk dancing and playing Andy Delort as a striker in the Championship*. I’ve scored goals like that meself on the Tech in the Wigan Ammy league ;)

*If he does play on Saturday, I hope he makes me eat these words.

No. You still haven’t worked out why he said that he was particularly impressed with Delort then didn’t play him in a team with no strikers. Is yours made of wood? The one thing that you, I and Malky Mackay have in common is that we all want Wigan Athletic to win games. I’d leave it to his judgment before yours or mine.

It took until the 85th minute on Saturday for Mackay to give Delort a go. Why do you think that was?

Possibly because Watford had just taken the lead and Malky was trying to rescue the game. He was probably happy enough with a draw but it didn’t work out for him.

I disagree. Before Watford scored it could’ve gone either way. There was no way we were playing for a draw. And we had a striker on the bench all the while. That’s either incredibly poor management or someone trying to make the most of a poorly stocked toolbox, nothing in between.

, Delort especially has impressed this week.”

But not enough to get a starting place in a team with no strikers. Not enough to even get twenty minutes. You don’t have to read between too many lines to kill an argument.

It took until the 85th minute on Saturday for Mackay to give Delort a go. Why do you think that was? He sees these players day in, day out and sees things we’re not privy to. Delort came with a label that said striker. Mackay obviously doesn’t think that he’s a particularly great striker or, given our parlous state, he’d have been on from the start or at least given a reasonable amount of time.

We really didn’t play that badly Saturday. There was lots of effort and we are missing someone that can hit the net on a regular basis. I don’t know what’s going to happen in January regarding getting a striker but it was tough enough attracting players when we were in the big boys’ league let alone second bottom of the Championship.

Appointing a new manager who still hasn’t a win under his belt after 4 games and has now resorted to having no recognised striker on the pitch?

Don’t you think that’s because he didn’t inherit any recognised strikers and he sees more striker quality and chances of a goal in the likes of McManaman and McLean than Delort, Riera and Fortune? What exactly are his options up front for Saturday?

They opened the Sir Elton John Stand today so he was guest of honour and he spoke to the crowd before the game. He compared the current Watford owners with Dave Whelan and said he is ‘a great chairman and a great leader of a fantastic club who have done wonders to get where they are today. I salute Dave Whelan and I salute Wigan’.

He ain’t scared of a bit of negative press for being involved with our under fire chairman!

We were very unlucky not to get a point today, we certainly deserved one.

We have no tried and tested goal scorers in the squad, crazy as it may seem, and I can see why the manager did what he did today. A slight criticism today would be with Delort. There was little point in putting him on for the last five minutes. It was a pure act of desperation to get something out of the game. I know it’s unfair to judge someone on five minutes of action but Delort is simply not good enough. I think the fact that he only got five minutes suggests the manager thinks the same.

Worryingly, Fortune can’t score, Riera’s about one click higher than Delort in the quality stakes and Waghorn (when fit) is only part of the solution. Pretty desperate times and the manager’s got a hell of a job on his hands.

Bearing in mind where we were when he took over, come May 2nd what would he now consider as a successful season for us. Avoiding relegation? Making the play offs (still)? Or something in between?

Very quiet on here of late, anyone would think think that most have resigned themselves to the fact that we might go down and they could be right ya know! Now obviously any relegated side a season and a half relegated is going to be a shadow of it’s former self but I think our’s is looking like League One fodder and I am not on the wind up! Slowly but surely I think that most of our fans have accepted that we have no God given right to be back in the Prem and that our 8 year stint was just an amazing anomaly but now we are back from whence we came and it is a whole different ball game ( Well It’s still football but ya know what I mean ! )A combination of two failed managers have left us with some pretty sub standard signings, sub standard enough to see us languishing one off the bottom of the table and if Malky can’t sort the wheat from the chaff very quickly, trust me we will be in a relegation dogfight! I just hope that all this recent bad press isn’t going to put the mockers on DW splashing some more of that parachute money so that Malky can right a few wrongs! In recent times Wolves have done the double drop and Birmingham avoided it by the skin of their teeth last season so don’t think that it can’t happen because it can, the question is what can be done to prevent it? Laugh at me all you like but I for one would welcome Caldwell back into the heart of the defence ( Instead of Barnett ) for his experience and leadership as this is his level these days. I would take Boycie aside and thank him for all of his efforts and dedication but tell him that he is going to be a fringe player from now on, I would replace him with Tavernier if fit or Perch. Before anyone starts giving the ” Not another ‘Football Manager’ gamer ” I am just offering up my opinion on the current woes! Midfield would have to see Forshaw removed and sent out on loan if anybody would have him to get his game up to scratch because he is very much off the pace so far this season! We can’t afford to have him playing in league games dithering about whilst being closed down and then either passing it back or to one of the opposition! Not sure about up front and the long winded 2 up front or not debate! Something has to give though surely! At the end of the day we are not where we are by bad luck or kismet, we are down there because of bad management and let’s hope that Malky can turn things rounds and so ‘Let’s Be Having You’ on Saturday getting behind the lads and at least doing what we are meant to be doing, supporting the team! :)

                                  I don’t think we’ll go down. I think we’re a good side blighted by some poor individual performances/decisions (player/managerial).

Nobody has given us a proper tonking (yet) and I’ve not walked away from a game this season thinking that there is something inherently wrong and there was nothing that couldn’t be put right. Even against Wednesday last Saturday, there were moments during the game where we looked streets ahead of our opponents only to be let down my some individual errors that cost us the game.

We do have goalscorer issues, as in we haven’t got one. I don’t know the answer here but it is of my opinion that the solution doesn’t involve Holt, Delort and Riera. Over to Malky on that one.

                                  Top half finish for me.
