Whilst we all cheered on the ride to the Premiership, the fare in the last few years has been pretty dire, on the whole, with some highlights. No, I wouldn’t want relegation, but it’s not the worst fate in the world, if it leads to more competitive football and less of the falseness that is the Premiership. In case a couple of the posters haven’t read the initial post, it wasn’t asking if they wanted the club to be relegated, it was asking whether the club is more important to them than the league they were in. Most of us will answer club first every time. Those who don’t, we won’t miss if/when we go down.

If the odds on every game averaged out at even money (which it sounds like it might have if you’re backing the likes of Rochdale and Huddersfield to win), a bet of £2.75 on a 14 match accumulator would net you £22,528.

        So there.

I’m guessing the odds of Burnley to beat Villa were 2-3/1 and Hull would have been about 7/4, so the odds would stack up, particularly on 14 teams.

The cynic in me says it’s not the players’ idea, though they can certainly afford it. It’s a sensible gesture from the club’s point of view, though.

I’m pleasantly surprised and well done, finally, to the club. Not only the shop after so many years, but the WN1 bit as well. Why do I keep thinking it’s April 1st, though?

What other team would sign a 32 yr old with no prem experience?

              Bolton?

I’ve always liked the idea of big screens, so we can really moan at the referee (we will, of course, ignore them if they show he’s right). As to the video ref, you might like to ask a Saints fan how infallible they are after the recent Grand Final!

IF this is legit and Bruce wants him/he wants to go, it’ll be interesting to see whether Jack bends over backwards and takes it like he did with the Cattermole deal. If someone wants a player, it becomes a seller’s market, so you hang on for every penny you can get (and more). It would show a lack of ambition on the player’s part to take a sideways move, but intelligence and football players tend not to sit too well together.

Personally, I’d be more inclined to remove the Welsh teams than let Scottish teams in. It’s all about money though, which is why the likes of Swansea, Cardiff, et al. play in the English league, rather than the Welsh league where there is much less money.

The point about Europe is an interesting one, though. If Celtic and Rangers join the English structure, they can kiss goodbye to ever qualifying for the Champions League again and the Europa League will be a stretch.

Good luck to the lad, but i don’t think he is Manure standard.

Yeah, but it’s not as if he’s ever won….oh, hang on….

He was an U21 international while with us. He moved from a lower middle ranking team to a slightly higher middle ranking team, but, on the other hand, he suffered injury problems which affected him after moving, as several other players have. As things stand now, I fail to see how he’s furthered his career. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a cracking player, but, apart from the odd UEFA Cup game, where’s the benefit? If he hadn’t suffered his injury problems and had been a permanent fixture in a top four side, that would be a different story. Question. Would you rate Fulham as a good move for a player? They’re playing in Europe the same as Everton.

It’s debateable whether Bainesy has gone on to better things. He’s had some long injuries and it’s only recently he’s back in the Everton first team. Is his profile higher now than when he was with us? A better question would be how many players have left us in the last half a dozen years who have bettered themselves? Back in the old days, we could boast of a team of top league players who were ex-Latics, so we were certainly producing them then.

From what I’ve seen and read, the ball boy threw the ball vaguely in the direction of Diouf, who told him to “f*** off, white boy” or words to that effect. The ball boy was wasting time and Diouf went OTT.

A lot of people are putting forward that argument, but, unfortunately, it’s only half the story. It’s not just the results, but it’s how the team are playing and there are plenty of alarm bells ringing at the moment. My biggest concern remains how watertight the defence isn’t. This was a problem the second half of last season, remained one in pre-season and doesn’t seem to have improved much since. Even more worrying is that the defence hasn’t changed since last year (though the midfield has!).

I have to say we’ve looked a bit livelier with Scotland on and playing the traditional 4-4-2. There’s no reason why you can’t play a passing game and have two forwards on the pitch. Whether the two we have will prove good enough is another matter.
