You can’t think anything other than this was a mistake from Martinez. We’ve been paying some or all of the wages for a player who the manager has decided isn’t good enough to fit in the first team, even on the bench. Even saying he had an attitude problem, should you not put the team first? There have been lots of rumours of off field squabbles, but these players seem to be chosen. To be fair, Diame was waiting to come on from the 79th minute, but Bob doesn’t like to make his subs quickly, hence he was milling about till the 86th minute, not that coming on with 11 minutes left would have been a masterstroke.
Apart from the multiple cock-ups for the first goal, Dean didn’t do that badly. The problems were quite simply the continued inability to convert chances into goals and the defence falling to pieces without Caldwell there. It was a bad game to lose against a poor side, though, but it’s not the first time we’ve said that this season alone.
