Victor Moses plays better off the front man or in the hole as I guess its called rather than on wing according to Palace fans so you could have a front four in a 4231 of

    Moreno or Scotland ;)
    Rodallega N’Zogbia
    Moses
Which will certainly have pace in it. Diame & Thomas can then just play holding roles and let them four run riot in attack

Well we came up from the Championship on a high and that enabled us to gather momentum to a cup final and a 10th final placing. What an impression for the doubters ! Season 2 brought about the dreaded 2nd season syndrome and boy did we oblige !! A finale not for the faintest heart but what a match ! Right we had weathered the storm and now it was time to start building in order to establish ourselves in the top flight. I didnt want to hear the ” We are punching above our weight comments ” I wanted the chairman to move forward and put this club firmly on the map but I am afraid that has not happened ! We have sold our best players which I appreciate is unfortunately a common occurrence with the smaller club but we have slowly replaced them with Championship class players. We have had a couple of other decent signings along the way but alas they have either gone already or are earmarked for moves come Summer ! The current manager despite his history with the club is quite simply not the man for the job as he is bereft of tactics and to be honest has not got enough experience to guide our ship away from the rocks that are getting closer ! I dont know who we could replace him with as that always seems to be the riposte from the pro Bob brigade, all I know is he is not the man for the job ! I dont want us to go down and I cling to the hope that there are worse teams than us this season but that is not how it should be should it ! The football I have witnessed of late has been shoddy and not ” Beautiful ” as was promised or claimed ( You choose ) Hopefully the 2 new strikers will get the chance to prove themselves as Mr Scotland in my opinion has not done that and if anyone thinks he needs more time then I am sorry but you are deluded ! I am not a one man Scotland hate campaign as certain folk may now think but my frustration for us to succeed comes to the fore sometimes on matches and my recent spectacle was just frustration and I tend to say what I see and he is not good enough ! Not just my opinion though is it ?? The thing is we aint won many of late and are precariosly just above the drop zone but I wont miss a single home game and will gladly leap around for a few seconds if Scotland breaks his duck but the manager needs to sort things and quickly and sort out the problems that we can clearly see yet he cant through his folded arms. I would like to end by saying as this is a forum everyone is entitled to their opinions and if I am not to be converted as some might say well how come I return every single home game ! Perhaps I am mad !!

Here you are fella, have one of these

You can’t see it but it’s a paragraph break, in fact have a couple more…

Tek as many as you like

I agree with vat here. It seems people ( many of whom didn’t go to the game ) couldn’t wait to come on here and post sneery “told you so” type stuff. What good does it do & what purpose does it serve? Just before Notts scored we were all over them and should have put the game to bed and young Schmeichel kept them in it. Not that arsed about the cup, if Bobby keeps up in this league this year it will rate as a great achievement. Trouble is a lot of our support has either only started watching or have rediscovered their local team during the last few years of success and climbing through the divisions & unfortunately it wasn’t going to last forever. Now the going is a bit tougher they are walking in their droves, turning on the club they claim to support and spouting off on here and other sites all the time rather than looking for positives. There might not have been much stomach for a fight on the pitch last night but there isn’t any amongst many of our fans either.

South Stand should be £100 adults, £30 a season kids, or even £19 a season for kids. That way no-one can moan if we have “quid a kid days” as well. They might as well do it dirt cheap as it’s empty most games anyway.

The East/West £150 – £180 quid a season. I know its “Cheap as Chips” but if they can push the marketing and advertising out to the community and North West they could sell close to 15-16000 which isn’t far off selling 10,000 at £250 apieace. And they should get them on sale now and fix the price no matter what division we are in. The ticket revenue is only around a tenth of the tv money so why not do something revolutionary? Its sad that something like this is necessary but this is Wigan, half the crowd was getting into Springfield Park with a borrowed dole card to save three quid

    I hope you’re intended punchline for 9th May 2010 doesn’t come off……….

in reply to: Local Loyalty. Getting Behind Your Local Team. #20402
You give a fairly reasoned and tempered analysis of how you see things…………some of your views I applaud, however (and this is just me being pedantic), We are not a Championship club – haven’t been for quite a while now and we are certainly not punching above our weight. We have what we have and are more than holding our own in a league which has at least eight other teams (regardless of their size or stature) of our calibre.

bad choice of words by me there, we are of course a premier league club but I think what I was getting at is that given the size and background of the club it is remarkable achievement that we are a premier league club. of the clubs in the championship, probably around 20 or so of them are “bigger” than us, or would be if we swapped places plus in league one, there’s Leeds, Charlton and Norwich ( and of course Oldham  ) who are bigger than us. they’d all love to be where we are now , just as stoke and burnley are enjoying it at the minute but for some people on here it’s not good considered good enough. someone on here said they want to go down so that we can win more games in the championship….well wtf??? Maybe we should aim to go down and win enough games to finish 12th every season but after a bit people will be moaning that we don’t win enough, so we’ll go and win too many one year and then guess what happens???????

I’d love us to stay in the Prem forever, just to shut the rugby wankers up who can’t wait to see us go down and build a generation of support but unless they change the rules dramatically then winning the thing will always be a tall order, so we are where we are. In a league where the standard is high, mistakes are punished and with a team and a manager who are still learning in a league where youdon’t get time to learn. Players who are the finished article come at a price so just as we used to sign players from non leagues when we were in the lower divisions and pub team players when we were in the non league, we still have to try abroad and the championship because established, finished article Premier League players are unaffordable to us. It’s all about supporting your team, success is a by product which occasionally happens not a guarantee

So Scholes, would we be better off going down, do you think?

of course not, just saying we are doing well to stay up. we might be more established – whatever that means – than the likes of Hull and Stoke but we arent even in there league when it comes to the wage bill and transfer budget, let alone the rest of them which is what it comes down to in the end. throughout our time in the pl we’ve survived by selling players for more money than we buy them for and then spotting the next one and doing the same again. we’ll only stay up for as long as that continues or we start paying much higher wages and we’re running at a loss every year even after that if the eveneing post is anything to go by

in reply to: Local Loyalty. Getting Behind Your Local Team. #20342

Fair play Tyldesley I respect your opinion I just don’t understand it

    What do you want?
And how do you propose to make it happen?

Short of a time machine to take us back to the start of the first season or last season when Valencia, Palacios, Zaki were firing all cylinders and Bruce had us playing a high tempo game. This isn’t going to happen, Bruce walked and much of the money received was banked or used to pay off debts. Absolutely loads of people on here have either said they’ve stopped going or aren’t happy because the team has been weakened but then it always did ( 1985-87 a whole team went )and it always will be. When we were in the bottom division when we struggled for cash and were getting beat every week the difference was that the likes of Rochdale, Bury, hereford etc were in the same boat. There is noone in the same boat as us a premier league club. We have the smallest fan base, lowest wage budget and a chairman who has done well in the past but has now reached his limitations in terms of funding a football club. It’s 99% about the money in the premier league and only 1% about the fans. The only clubs we are better off than in terms of money are Burnley and Pompey and that only recently and both of those have ten times the history and tradition we have and come from passionate footballing towns, whereas half our town actievly hates us. Their fans turn up week on week to home games to make a noise and support their team to try and get the points needed to win the game and stay in the division. Ours just moan about everything and anything. I’m sorry if you don’t like Bob’s football but it’s certainly nothing worse than what Bruce served up during the 2nd half of last season. You say you’re behind him, if you are you should be congratulating him for keeping the smallest club in the premier league out the relegation zone. It wasnt pretty Wednesday night but some of us do see what he is trying to do even when it doesnt work, some of us use our brains as well as our eyes watching football.
Would you rather have Big Sam in charge, spending the whole game hitting it long and trying to win set pieces to lump it into the box? Or do you believe we aren’t spending enough on players and you’d like to convince Whelan should attempt to find another hundred million to sign better players and pay them £80k a week like Pompey did

Yes you are entitled to moan but statements like `we have gone dramatically backwards` are ridiculous. We’re in 14th place, are you saying that you wouldn’t take 14th place at the end of the season? Do you seriously expect little Wigan Athletic to finish consistently in the top ten every season, thereby making us one of the top ten clubs in the country?

I’d love to see that as I’m sure you do but i can understand the reasons why we are where we are in the pecking order, we are a championship club ( with non league backroom but thats another story ) punching above our weight. Nothing sycophantic or blinkered about that statement, just realistic

If I hadn’t seen such riches I could live with being poor…………..

There is the problem, we’ve been spoilt although those complaining about us not challenging for European football are continuing to act like spoilt brats. Latics were always a tinpot team who played crap football, the odd non league giant killing and the early league days and then the young team built by McNally but between that in an rl town (soz but it was true) we always struggled. We were 92nd in the league in the 90’s and if that situation had remained we would have folded with a wimper unlike burnley who had 16000 turn up when faced with same situation.

We’ve done well the last few years to build up a decent fanbase. Trouble is half of them are now proving that they arent true fans at all, as soon as we’re not winning games or not playing the right football, they are moaning and buggering off. Well f*ck off then and go support United or Liverpool or whoever it was before. They’d rather come on here and moan about it to all and sundry rather than actively support the club to help it get through. We might get our club back one day when they’ve gone but it will be at a lower level of football. Sadly we need all this lot to even get 15-16k fans through at home despite their ungrateful and petty attitude. Compare us to Stoke, they fill their ground and make a racket, get behidn their team even though their football is shyte. They back their team but I’ve not heard many Stoke fans saying `I’m not coming again unless we get into Europe next year`

Some people on here have need a reality check, if they don’t get their own way they’ll scweam and they’ll scweam and they’ll scweam you know

Some of us are just grateful weve even got a football club and i ain’t no happy clapper

in reply to: FA Cup semi finals? #19568

Would hope that people would go to a semi if we got there as it could be our only chance to go to the new wembley. Still got to win three games to get that far but it would be nice to get to the “new Wembley” before the fatties do in their once a year attempt to spread the gospel beyond a few pit villages

    Beat Notts County
    Beat Fulham
Beat winners of Southampton & Pompey. Southampton would have ben a cracking away tie
    And we there………

I didn’t go to the game, still supposed to stay inside with the swine flu :( … Least the mighty Jason Scotland has got a goal (at his level) .. This swine flu will be a blessing in disguise if we lose. ;)

Speaking from personal experience, if you have swine flu, the last thing you’d be doing would be posting annoying guff on the interweb lad

Sad thing is both of them were in their 40’s and I’d never seen them at latics. (and in the old days, you used to see people, and recognise them)

Funny how nobody recognises you though isn’t it VAT?? You come on here and post rubbish like this desperate to prove to us all what a super fan you are and slag everyone else in the process. There weren’tr many watching us through the Kenny Swain years but you weren’t the only one on there, bloody hell I remember going to Hereford and Rochdale away games, well actually I don’t remember cos I was trolleyed most of the time but there’s no need to bang on about it.

It sounds like you want to go back to those old days, can you imagine if we had 1,500 on at the JJB, sorry DW every week, we’re enough of a perceived embarassment as it is. there’s no denying that people have jumped on the bandwagon and yes it sometimes is galling to take but “better late than never” as they say and another 10,000 would be nice. How are we ever going to grow as a club if we ridicule every one who hasn’t been going since non league????
