Coyle did introduce a very attractive style at Bolton, who looked much better going forward than defending.

Very attractive my arse :cheer:

Its bog standard direct football that in terms of our footballing philosophy is one giant step backwards.

None the less it may get us out of the Championship but I am dissapointed we didnt go down the route Swansea did and try and have a bit of continuation from the previous regime.
You’re thinking of Allardyce and Megson.

Coyle changed the way Bolton played.

Some of the Bolton players commented on Dougie Freedman in the fact that since he took charge they were more tactically aware of how to play football.

They also talked about the more specialised training sessions and the sports science Freedman had implemented in regards to treating injuries.

Does he remind you of anyone?

How will the players react to the flipside of that story? He will be talking to players who have spent the last 4+ years working on game to game tactics to the finest detail.

I fear if he comes in and looks tactically naive to the players he will lose the respect of the dressing room very quickly.

It is better, of course, for players to say that their new manager is better than his predecessor. Freedman is still in the Championship. His old team, Crystal Palace, will kick off this season in the Premier League under Ian Holloway. But perhaps Freedman will enjoy the season more than Holloway.

I agree that Martinez worked on game tactics to the finest detail. However, many posters here – the majority I would say – criticised his tactics – and even called him tactically naive.

Coyle has got a reasonable cup record. In 2008/9, Burnley beat Chelsea and Arsenal in the League Cup. They lost to Spurs in the semi-final, but would have won had the away goals rule applied. Promotion to the Premier League followed in the play-offs.

He took Bolton to an FA Cup semi-final against Stoke which they lost 5-0. They won their next league game at home to Arsenal and stood eighth in the Premier League. After that it was all downhill. They finished the season with five losses in a row.

There’s another similarity with Wigan. Success in the FA Cup was followed by relegation.

When he took over at Bolton he tried to play football the right way & move away from fat sams long ball game,so good luck from me to the guy.hope he buys a nice suit :)

Did he? He may have said that was what he was trying to do but if he did he certainly failed in an abysmal fashion.
Coyle did introduce a very attractive style at Bolton, who looked much better going forward than defending.

Before the 2011/12 season, Bolton lost Sturridge and Elmander and did not replace either. They suffered shocking pre-season injuries and then had a very tough start to their fixtures. They never really recovered.

Cahill left in January 2012 and then Bolton lost Muamba. Even so, they were not relegated until the last match of the season.

There are lots of similarities there with Wigan’s situation last season.

Absolute disaster.I will not be renewing my season ticket. Players will want to leave and he will not be able to attract the right players. Just wait for the Burnley and Bolton rejects.

Steven Fletcher £12m, Gary Cahill £7m, Jay Rodriguez £7m – no, I don’t think so.

And Big Fat Sam has had his pick of the rest.

That’s the excitement of the Europa League – a chance to see football from a new perspective.

Thanks, garswood.

So Swansea have the same (English) coefficient of 16.592.

The Welsh representatives are;
Prestatyn Town CC: 0.516
Airbus UK Broughton CC: 0.516
Bala Town CC: 0.516

48 teams play in the group stage.

The 48 teams will be allocated into four pots based on their 2013 UEFA club coefficients. They will be drawn into twelve groups of four, with the restriction that teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

Wigan Athletic have a club coefficient – somehow – of 16.592.

The other teams who have qualified;
Valencia CC: 102.605
Bordeaux CC: 59.800
Lazio CC: 41.829
Anzhi Makhachkala CC: 20.266
Freiburg CC: 15.922
Vitória de Guimarães CC: 14.333

“Manchester United will face the FA Cup winners Wigan as the Community Shield returns to Wembley on Sunday August 11 with a 2pm kick-off.”

Kenny Jackett has gone to Wolves.

That eliminates him but leaves Owen Coyle free.

If there had been teams in the Premier League like Bournemouth, Macclesfield, Huddersfield and Millwall, we might well have survived.

Judging on last years F.A Cup performances, This squad is easily good enough to walk The Championship. It’s time we looked forward. Balls to Judas.

Judging by last year’s Premier League performances, we’ll need a bigger squad with better cover in defence and attack.

We’ll have more league matches next season with the European games on top of them. But there’s no guarantee that we’ll go into the season with the current squad intact.

I’m grateful to Martinez for everything he did. Some of the crowd abused him while he was here. You’ve got your way – why would you abuse him now he’s gone?

in reply to: Orsula #115138

Orsula came on in the 90th minute against Nottingham Forest and the 120th minute against Bradford City.

I can’t say if he kicked the ball.

in reply to: Orsula #115137

Gomez replaced Di Santo for the cup tie at Everton. That produced a stunning – and quite unexpected – performance. Gomez kept his place for the rest of the season.

I don’t think that there was very much between them myself. They have certainly suffered a similar degree of abuse from the crowd.

I don’t think we’ll be looking for players with the same degree of skill to play in the Championship.

much of it was dull, boring mistake ridden dross far worse than anything seen under bruce

Who made the mistakes? It wasn’t Martinez, it was the players! Martinez didn’t send them out to play mistake ridden dross. Bruce did instruct them to play his way.

Yes, if Martinez had bought better players and paid higher wages, he might have achieved better results. And last season, a bigger squad would have been useful too.

Some fans, I think, have been waiting to attack Martinez. The FA Cup run got in their way, but now they are seizing their opportunity. It’s a shame they can’t show just a little gratitude – or even say nothing at all.
