My sympathies were with Holland too, but West Germany deserved to win. And they might have won by more.
Jack Taylor, correctly, gave Holland a first minute penalty. However, many referees might have waved play on so early in the game.
In the second half, a second Muller goal was wrongly disallowed, and an appeal for a penalty was dismissed when Holzenbein fell in the area.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is reportedly eyeing up a deal for the winger
Really? I don’t think Martinez is looking for a winger – not that Maloney is a winger. Perhaps he is going to play him at centre forward instead of Lukaku. Or is he really looking for someone to replace Barkley?
Martinez is certainly looking for a replacement for Barry. McArthur has come on leaps and bounds, already has Premier League experience, links well with McCarthy, and has played for Martinez before. If I was Roberto, I wouldn’t look any further.
The old Premier League team is steadily slipping away. I wonder if Uwe can build something that is its equal.

KoneMaloneyI would let him go for a small fee (£1M) as long as they agreed to take Beausejour as well.Now Gomez has gone, we need Beausejour as a scapegoat.
Maloney is entering the final year of his contract.
Wigan would like to reduce their wage bill now they face another year in the Championship.
Maloney is one of their remaining high earners and they were open to offers for him a year ago.
The investigation isn’t into whether the Liverpool fans behaved well. The question is whether their behaviour contributed to the disaster.
It’s hardly an individual crime if many supporters arrived at the same time, leading to a crush outside the ground.
Regardless of the behaviour of the Liverpool fans, I expect the investigation to confirm that the preparations made by the authorities were clearly inadequate and put the safety of fans at risk.
The ground had experienced crowd problems on a number of previous occasions. It did not even have a valid safety certificate. The police measures to control the crowds outside and inside the ground were hopelessly inadequate, as were the medical facilities available.
The attempt to cover up the part played by the police after the tragedy was inexcusable.
Complete and utter knob – whether anyone thought he was right or not, he is as subtle as a hand grenade in a barrel of sh*t.Indeed.
As has already been said, there are two aspects of Hillsborough;
1. the cause of the overcrowding and the lack of planning by the authorities involved, and
2. the cover-up by the authorities which started immediately after the tragedy.
It’s incredible that investigations into both are still being carried out today. This is largely due to the perseverance of the Liverpool fans and their families.
Faith in police evidence has been badly shaken now that it has become clear that the police have been involved in a number of similar cases. Jean Charles de Menezes, Ian Tomlinson, Stephen Lawrence, the miners’ strike, the Shrewsbury pickets, corruption at the Met and Plebgate all quickly come to mind.
All the fans who have died in tragedies should be remembered, together with their families and friends. Fans and the authorities associated with football should work together to prevent any recurrence.
Even now, not all stewards are sympathetic to fans. At the Etihad, Wigan fans were keeping a giant beach ball in the air – a harmless way to pass the time until kick-off. Yet when the ball went onto the pitch, a steward took great pleasure in stabbing it with a knife.
This behaviour seemed designed to antagonise good-humoured fans. In contrast, at Wembley, when a similar beach ball went onto the pitch, the stewards went out of their way to return it to the fans.
Bruce’s style of play will not suit him.As we saw in the Cup Final, Bruce now plays the ball through midfield.
This midfield played in front of the back three;
Ahmed Elmohamady
Jake Livermore
Tom Huddlestone
David Meyler
Liam RoseniorFigueroa was on the bench.
I didn’t say who it would attract!
Would you like to know the result of the World Cup Final?
What’s with all the questions just because you phooked up with a stupid comment :huh:The Scottish Premier League had already lost one of the Old Firm, Rangers. Hibs and Hearts – two of the four Premier League teams with an average attendance above 10,000 – now join Rangers in the Championship.
Their replacements Dundee (average attendance 4,738) and Hamilton (average attendance 1,436) are not going to attract bigger gates, greater broadcasting rights or more sponsorship.
Scotland play Nigeria tomorrow – at Craven Cottage. Their form has improved under Gordon Strachan. It looks an attractive fixture.
I should have said just one team is automatically promoted.
Three Championship teams and one Premiership team take part in the Premiership play offs. They are not like ours;
Quarter final; Falkirk beat Queen of the South
Semi final; Hamilton beat Falkirk
Final; Hamilton beat HibernianThere are some interesting club names in Scotland. Perhaps Latics could change their name to Queen of the North.
The Accies have done it!
They lost the first leg at home 0-2 but beat Hibs 0-2 away with a goal by Jason Scotland and a last minute goal by Anthony Andreu. They went on to win on penalties.
You can lose the first leg at home and recover!
There was a near capacity attendance of 18,031.
Hibs started their miserable season with a 9-0 defeat in Europe, and now join Hearts and Rangers in the Scottish Championship – and only one team can come up next season.
Harry has assembled a collection of expensive players.
McLaren has built a team.
I suspect we’ll be going to QPR next season.
Two teams from La Liga will be playing in the Champions League final tomorrow.
Barcelona isn’t one of them.
Miracles only happen to the Latics.
