ROGNE RAMIS BARNETT will do a job as a three.

Yes, but Martinez practised with a back three for months before playing it in a league match.

The wingbacks have a crucial role – Martinez was only able to introduce the new system because Boyce and Beausejour adapted to the position so well.

The remaining staff haven’t the experience – or the time – to introduce the new players to the system.

    We need a left back!

Stephen Warnock is in the Leeds’ squad – he could be worth a spell on loan.

It will be an improvement if the team has a plan at all.

It will have to be a conventional back four. Martinez practised the back three for months before playing it in the first team. If the new manager isn’t confident in it, he can hardly ask the players to carry it out.

Of the experienced back three, only Ramis is available. The role of the wing backs is crucial. Though Boyce and Beausejour are still here, I don’t think we’ll see it again.

It’s an interesting situation. I think that there will be an enormous sense of relief in the squad.

I expect Graham Barrow to give them some enjoyable training. It will be hard to pick the team – all the players will want to show what they can do.

Will it be enough to win? I don’t know, but I do expect them to play with pride again.

Coyle’s future hung on Wigan’s performance on Sunday.

The gods duly delivered their verdict – three goals in thirty minutes.

He’s only been here for six months, but it seems much longer.

in reply to: Holloway in? #124210

    Holloway has worked wonders.

But we don’t need a miracle-worker. We can take a longer view.

We just need someone to pull the squad together.

Today’s match was like a public execution.

If Moyes recalls Powell, then we won’t be able to play him as the lone forward any more.

Who else can do it? We may have to play a forward – perhaps Keane who is coming in Powell’s place.

in reply to: Used match ticket #124060

Does he want a season ticket too?

    in reply to: Gomez #124028

    Poor Gomez.

He stands with the ball thinking, “There’s nobody to pass to!” What can he do? No wonder he gets caught on the ball.

There was a good reception for him from the Springfield Stand when he came off.

Coyle needs to sort that midfuield out as there was a huge ghap there all night.

But we only had six midfield players!

    I imagine the plan was to have;

two holding players – McArthur and McCann
two wide players – McManaman and McClean
    one central player – Gomez
    one forward player – Powell

It seemed to be working until they scored. Then our confidence slipped and theirs grew.

in reply to: A settled starting eleven #124025

What is our best starting eleven?

The only way Coyle can keep a settled starting eleven is if that team is successful, i.e. capable of scoring goals.

And he’s got a big squad. If he stops rotating, there will be a lot of unhappy players at the club, in addition to Espinoza.

We’ve got four keepers too. There are going to be some departures.

Will Keane has joined Wigan on loan.

Michael Keane has joined Derby on loan.

    Both could play on Sunday.

We managed to get past Bournemouth and Huddersfield last year despite Roberto’s severely weakened teams.

We then sailed past Millwall at Wembley, playing Gomez, McManaman and the recalled Al Habsi, with barely a worry.

We should be able to repeat these wins in the Championship – it’s a pity that we lost away to Bournemouth.

THIRD ROUND PROPER – SUNDAY 8 DECEMBER 2013
The draw will be televised live on ITV at approx 4.10pm
