Since he left Rochdale, where he played with Rickie Lambert, Holt has steadily climbed the leagues. We didn’t see much of him at Wigan last season. He only came on as a late substitute, and Kone scored the winner as soon as he did.

He should be a success in the Championship, but I think Norwich have seen him at his best. He is, after all, 32 – the same age as Crainey. There are some more cautious reports too; “Unfortunately, he didn’t have a great season last year, noticeably gaining a lot of weight and only scoring 8 times for Norwich City.”

The Europa League was apparently a great attraction for him. I hope he isn’t disappointed.

    not really fussed
just another chimbonda ,hope he ends up on same path as well

Is that like Chimbonda in skill, attitude or something else?

Chimbonda did have his moments on the pitch – and was named as right back in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2005–06 season.

He came from Guadeloupe – in the West Indies – and is available on a free transfer after leaving Doncaster. Would you…No, perhaps not.

I’ve seen a new sign too – entering Hindley, or perhaps it was Ince.

Green lettering on a white background, but part of a bigger sign. The council wouldn’t want to replace that every season.

I don’t think we can take this any further, Saint.

Let’s just hope we see some good games next season.

    Cheers, mate.

Some fans – however unfairly – are simply taking their frustration out on Martinez now. Well, we’ll never have a season like last season again. I wish the unhappy fans could just gratefully accept the extraordinary cup win and look forward to life in a new environment under a new manager.

Fact he took us down , fact he jumped ship

I think we’re going round in circles. Haven’t you anything new to say?

And yes, those are facts, but irrelevant to this thread. But don’t they apply equally to Coyle?

Bolton; Fact Coyle took us down
    Burnley; Fact Coyle jumped ship

So are you saying Coyle is gutless too?

We wouldn’t ov sighed anyone yet

    I am stating a fact

    No, that’s not a fact. It’s a fiction – it’s something that you’ve made up.

It’s quite important to be able to tell one from the other.

Your post reveals more about you than Martinez.

I think I understand where Griff is coming from.

When squads are so uneven, no, they can’t bridge the gap.

It was an achievement for Wigan to be playing in the Premier League, although they undoubtedly found it hard going. I should think we all accept that the main reason was the vast gulf in finances between teams, with Wigan with the least and Manchester City with most.

Martinez was working in very difficult circumstances. Positions in the Premier League table broadly reflect the finances of the individual clubs, and Wigan were inevitably closer to the bottom than the top.

Some fans – however unfairly – are simply taking their frustration out on Martinez now. Well, we’ll never have a season like last season again. I wish the unhappy fans could just gratefully accept the extraordinary cup win and look forward to life in a new environment under a new manager.

If we have a good season and win promotion back to the Premier League – which is by no means assured – the struggle for survival will start all over again.

(My apologies to garswood for the indicative mood.)

    Now Owen is in charge.

    It’s time to move on.

Last season, back in the Championship with Wanderers, Coyle lasted until 9 October. Here’s hoping he does better this season.

Looks to be a fair comparisson to me.

No, it’s not – making things up isn’t fair!

Besides, Martinez was in a different league to Coyle.

Martinez never won promotion with Wigan; there’s a chance for Coyle to put one over on him there.

Owens record overall is 41.99 % compared to the loveable Roberto’s 25% , I’m happy to give Coyle a chance on those stats alone, regardless of how impressed I’ve been with his actions so far .

I’m happy to give Owen a chance too.

But I wouldn’t put any any faith in comparing statistics which cover different situations.
