Let’s not forget the days of hoof ball in final 5 mins with de vos employed as target man. Take away Ellington and Roberts combo, I cannot see what jewell would bring to us now.

In my eyes we have better in Martinez. Jewell had better players at his disposal yet performed far worse.

I think jewell’s time with latics should be remembered fondly. But that’s about it.

We’ve moved on since the days of PJ.

What else could Mr Whelan have done? he has kept season ticket prices ridiculously low in an attempt to swell the gates which he has had no reward from except falling attendances. The big clubs pay obscene wages forcing the rest to pay high wages even for mediocre players. We are rarely on TV live so revenue isnt brilliant.Agents and players think their worth is a lot more than it really is so transfer fees are inflated.Yet amidst all the financial pressure of being in the Prem and the vast debts that go with it Mr Whelan has assured this clubs future by running it with great acumen. He hasnt got millions to throw at it like some but in all honesty he has done a bloody better job than some who have.

On Bobby Mr Whelan has got it wrong, yes he has cut wages etc but his main priority is as first team coach/manager which imho he has made a hash of.We cant compete and never will but we could have tried harder on the pitch even with the squad we have if only RM would have been open to change.[/quote]
Dont get me wrong and i can see how my post came across. I dont believe whelan could have done anymore in the early stages of us going up. But to get us here and then decide to pull the money out of the club is leaving us ‘stranded’ in the money pit of the premierleague. He knew we would never get massive gates, he knew we would not attract sky coverage every other week.

Mr Whelan has made good money in this journey. I dont believe for one minute that he hasnt. His decision to now withdraw his backing leaves us going backwards. if this were his intention then maybe in the cold light of day it would have been better to do the whole – ‘leaving the club on a good financial footing’ a little earlier rather than splashing the cash in the lower leagues, when a lot of the debt was initially accumulated.

im certain that some fans on here are wigan athletic fans simply from playing fantasy football or champ manager.

How the hell are we going to afford top class players on massive wages with a home crowd of little over 13,000. We have no income. we are not a sustainable company. we depend on a certain gentleman to give our club the finances to stay afloat.

the only income we make is from TV revenue. apart from player sales which go back into the running of the club on a day to day business we have no more money to spend.

The sooner some fans realise this maybe the sooner we can start supporting the players we have, instead of belittling them by chanting them off the pitch.

i actually get quite embarressed at home games now, with some of the absolute rubbish some of our fans are coming out with.

example of gent sat in row D WS6 – ” GET STAM OFF HE’S BLOODY RUBBISH”
that belter was after 11 mins against city.

I think anyone with that little bit of class and street wise attitude could do well for us. We have lacked that for a while now. Hugo has not been good enough now for well over 12 months and historically we have never replaced Ellington and Roberts combo from the glory year of promotion. On that note, i feel we havent actually improved things with regards to defenders since we got promoted. our first year in prem had us with baines hencoz arry and chimbonda. compare that to what we have now and some may argue we are worse off with what we have at present. Thats disappointing when we should be looking to improve things.

back to forward line up. we’ve got di santo, sammon, hugo, weve had moreno weve had scotland. Blackburn currently have a striker on the bench week in week out who they wont play as it will activate player bonus. he is a handfull, strong fast and a good eye for goal. Why not bring back Jason Roberts on a short term loan. he’d be on a fraction of the wage hugo is on (i suspect) and would probably offer more. Also think it would have a big impact on the fans too.

anyway yosser, yes i think diouf would be good signing too.

in my opinion gomez is been one of our better players over the past few games, yet there is a prat who sits behind me who cannot wait for him to do a bad pass or some other unsuccessful attempt during the game. yet, when he does something good or something comes off right he is quiet as hell.

You dont happen to sit in WS6 do you? I have a few characters right behind me who shout for him to be subbed from the off.

I agree with you, about him being one of our better players recently. If he is given the time to make the pass, he is a very capable player. Seemed to struggle against the teams that press the play. With a bit of confidence behind him now though, that could change. He has done really well. We actually look dangerous in the final third with Gomez in the team.

I love the fact that they “should be beating Wigan”. Makes it all that bit sweeter. The truth that we matched them tonight can be brought up another time I suppose

It’s ridiculous that somwone can’t just ‘decide’ they want to go to a football game and turn up on the night though. what ever your postcode, it shouldnt be exclusive to the infamous database.

couple of years ago i popped over to watch a liverpool game. no worries. should be encouraged rather than discouraged.

I’m not familiar with this policy being applied to any other club.

maybe roy keanes little rant will stop our club from shutting the doors on new fans coming along to watch Latics.

Pretty sound comments. Have to disagree with your thought on Alcarez having enough pace. Feel he is just as much of a liability than our club captain.
