What’s all this Bruce spent a fortune? Just on his signings of Valencia, Palacios and Charlie and Cattermole we pulled in a profit of 32 million didnt we? Fair enough his 3.5 on Kapo wasnt his finest signing but then Boselli and Scotland aint pulled up many trees.
I aint saying he should be our number one target but lets have it right. He pulled a team from bottom of the table to the top half of the table when we left. His record speaks as stronger on paper than any other Manager we have had in the Premier league.
As Bruce consistently improved our team until Whelan cashed in on his prized assets and he had us on the edge of European qualification its hard to see why he wouldn’t be considered to be fair. He picked us up on our knees and guided us to 11th in a disappointing end to a promising season. He won as many games in his one and a half seasons as Bobby won in 3 seasons and on overall performances and record it would be difficult to see him as a ‘step back’.
True. He may not play the silky football that Roberto brought at times but given that this led us to fighting relegation every season he was here its difficult to see how this was that effective? The 7 out of 9 at the end of the season and some of the superb team performances have tantalised most of us to ask ‘What could have been?’ However. Given his tenure as a whole its hard to see all the advances that have been made given us consistently fighting to stay in the league.
Bruce perceived he was moving on to better himself just as Bobby is doing at the minute. Sunderland and Liverpool at present are no different a proposition. Whats all this ‘He jumped ship for more money twice’ nonsense. Are some people that naive to believe that money doesnt rule our game? Fans are loyal. Players and managers most certainly are not. Its just a job and if someone gave you a pay lift you would do the same. I must say i cant stand the way that Bobby is pimping himself out to all and sundry almost rubbing our clubs face in it on a daily basis. How long does it take to meet a bloke and decide if you want a new job?
Bookies odds on Managerial appointments are notoriously insane. He is now 4-6 with some. I like what Bobby said this morning “All that counts is the good of Wigan Athletic”. With that quote its hard to see him going anywhere.
8 goals in 72 games eh? Hardly a revelation. I would snatch their hands off if we can get close to 10 million.
Yet more nonsense from the darkside. Some of us cant forget so easily the grief some gave the club and Bob earlier in the year and those who lost belief must now hang their heads in shame. How is Bob a mercenary when he turned down a bigger club with more money last year? If he goes to a top 6 club well who wouldn’t?
Face facts, Bobby has worked miracles for this club whilst having his budget trimmed each year and building much stronger foundations for the club. In addition to this over the last two months we have witnessed probably the greatest football and the greatest results ever seen at the club and a playing style that has been compared to the greatest clubs on the planet.
Others will criticise his signings such as Boselli but forget the gems of Caldwell, Moses Ali, Macarthur, Beausejour and Maloney. Lets hope he is still at the club in ten years. We are certain to be in better shape if he is!
Ha ha!
Couldnt care less about England. Aint no room in my heart for any team but latics.
Think you’ll find if Chelsea win the final they will take the 4th spot as only 3 will qualify through the Premier league automatically.
Where are all these clowns who have berated the Manager over the last few months? Always first on here sticking the knife in when the chips were down. These are’nt fans. They wallow in our demise and kick us when we are down. For those of us that kept the faith these are happy times.
We have just witnessed probably the two finest performances in our history yet these darksiders never come on and put their hands up. Probably too busy writing lyrics in case it goes pear shaped again and they can jump straight in again with the boot. For us real fans these must surely be our proudest days.
Yet more lazy journalism. He signed a three year contract last year!
Conspiracy theorists may conclude rather differently. Have seen it too many times now to believe its a coincidence. Even the Sunday Telegraph concludes similarly:
Lets hope we can take some of our anger and frustration out on Wednesday with a memorable victory. We can still do this and the players look ready to fight to the death!
Still think we can get something from this one. They are winning a poor league and their form in Europe shows they aint the team they were. Confidence and a winning mentality can work wonders and if we keep believing we can have a real go the next three games for sure.
Emma Harrisons behaviour is outrageous. However, if a friends dog honestly did that i would think it was an act of brilliance!
Anyone remember Andy Lyons scoring there and the Goon Squad (all 6 of em) invading the pitch?
