There have been some shocking decisions and I don’t think anybody is denying that, but when people sit there and throw names around like Nigel Pearson for manager and say we should be signing player A, B or C who would all command a big fee and wage then they have clearly lost the plot.
Like Standish said, the last manager who asked for money was told to do one and did.
I ain’t mentioned any managers who are probably above our station, in fact I’ve only mentioned two, that Jones guy because he is the bookies fav and Barrow who would be a ‘Shoe in’ if he wanted it but I don’t think he does! I hasten to add that I do not want barrow and feel we need change all the way through! :)
You can argue about formations until the cows come home. The fact is whatever formation we played this season the emphasis was on caution and not getting beat and as a result of that and the lack of positivity going forward we scored fuck all and most people know that you have to score to win! Rosler had the right mindset when he first took over with his rapid movement through midfield within so many seconds tactic but for some strange reason something went wrong and he lost the dressing room and eventually the confidence of his chairman?
Exactly Runcorn. It has nothing to do with wanting to be back in the lower leagues it is about being realistic. We can’t afford to operate in billions of debt like the Utds of this world because we don’t have the pulling power. And realistically we should still be in The Championship! I am not saying we should be in The Prem, I am saying that we should never have been relegated twice in 2 seasons, I am saying I don’t accept it because it has been because of bad decisions by the board/club, whatever you want to call it and not because the club is little. Fans accepting another relegation so soon saying things like ” It’s who we are” and ” We are realistic, we are a small club ” is bollocks in my opinion, we are better than that these days in my opinion!
Like I have said many times, some of our fans hanker for the old days of basement football with fuck all attendances! ‘Little Wigan’ mentality!
No not at all fil. A lot of our fans have been with this club for a very long time. As a result they know where the club has come from. This does not mean they want to return to the third/fourth/non-league tier, far from it. I hated being relegated, but i just get on with it. I’ll still be there next season as will many. But as i say, most true fans accept who we are as a club.
& lets be honest. Without whelan we would not have gone on our incredible journey & thus, attracting fans like yourself who have only been with us a short time. Fans like yourself who thought this premier league thing would last forever.
One example. When we got into the premier league, i remember bumping into a bloke in the local shop with a latics shirt on. Ah! 2 people in runcorn as latics fans i thought. I got chatting to him. Turns out he is/was a liverpool fan but couldn’t get tickets for anfield. So “tagged on” to latics. 12 years on from 2005, i see that bloke on occassions & surprise, surprise he has gone back to wearing his liverpool shirt.
Yes! I’m afraid we are a little club. We always will be unless a billionaire buys the club & takes us on a journey of winning several EPL titles, cups etc..
Sorry fil. But we are wigan athletic. IMO you need to accept who we are.
I started actually attending games after the promotion to the Championship the first time round 14 years ago, I tagged along with my Brother who has been going on since 82 and he has the same view as me so what does that make him then? His mate who also comes on with us has been going on since 82 and he also thinks that we should at least be an established Championship club and we would have been if it wasn’t for some pretty dire decisions up top! We shouldn’t be facing League One football for the second time in 3 seasons, not so soon after The Prem! The other teams in the past that have dropped away so quickly had serious financial problems and points deductions etc, we have no such problems but there is something amiss, surely you can see that? Why just say ” But we are ‘Little Wigan’ ” It is negative thinking, the sort of acceptance that could see the club drop away into oblivion eventually but hey, you will still be there I guess, you and the other ‘Goole Away’ crew!
Like I have said many times, some of our fans hanker for the old days of basement football with fuck all attendances! ‘Little Wigan’ mentality!
Let’s just wait and see eh! Then we can either look forward to the new season or just carry on moaning!
Well if they are going to look into Huddersfield fielding a weakened side then we are fucked!
Nathan Jones nailed on!
For the glory hunters like you, you mean?
Why am I a glory hunter?
Did you go to the last game last season against Barnsley
Are you at the Leeds game tomorrow?
I didn’t go to the last game of last season and I will not be going tomorrow but I fail to see how this makes me a glory hunter?
For the glory hunters like you, you mean? Why am I a glory hunter?
Our next full time permanent manager won’t be in the stands tomorrow, he will be in the dug out or stood in his technical area!
So now it’s done and we are down, I’m thinking about next season in a state of mild excitement. The prospect of new manager, a few new players and definitely new tactics has fired my imagination and hopes that we will see proper attacking entertaining football.
I know there’s a game on Sunday and I will be there as usual, but it means nothing, a waste of time, worse than a friendly in fact….the last knockings of dire season best forgotten.
I note some of our usual boys can’t be arsed with Sunday, I don’t blame them but they will be back for next season afresh. The last game of last season against Barnsley was a nothing game for us, but yet nearly 19000 COULD be arsed to turn up that day!
Different circumstances!
Whats a superfan?
Ive heard of fairweather fans and supporters?
Anyone who stays past 80 minutes and goes to the game when it’s less than entertaining.
A fan who virtually goes to every game home and away. Never complains when the board make schoolboy errors that send the club down ( Twice in 3 seasons! ) and will sit through any old drudgery and accept it as the norm because they are still living in the past and deep down hanker for basement football!
Well I think we should be more than capable of holding our own in The Championship and if the club hadn’t made those absolute howler decisions both last but one season and this season then we would still be in The Championship and we would never have been relegated! We are not that ‘Little Wigan’ anymore and although we may not be a Prem side anymore or an FA Cup winning candidate, we are in my opinion big enough for the 2nd tier. Perhaps it would help if some of our fans dropped the ‘Little Wigan’ thing, moved into the 21st century proper and started to look ahead instead of behind them.
Jrfatfan quote….”I don’t come on here saying I’m not buying a Latics top due to the cost, cos nobody gives a shiny shyte and that’s my decision.”
And here’s me thinking you were a super fan, shame on you for not buying the club’s merchandise!
