Make history again and do the double.
Rugby town time to accept its not anymore. It never was.
Revenge for 71 (again).
I blame Decimalisation
Eight One – Eight bloody One! – And even that were an own goal. Useless, useless bastards.
Anyone willing to predict the score? On paper we should be beaten by about 12 – 0, especially after Monday nights results. But both clubs have points to prove after our last two Cup meetings. I would like to think that City do not appreciate the passion, determination and tenacity of Wigan and our supporters.
I hope for a bit of luck ie a Wigan penalty and a City player sent off that turns the game our way (it happens)!
And on that basis I predict a 2 – 2 draw.
Let’s hope your predictions are better than your memories.
He’s lost the plot
He’s no plan B
His subs are shite
He’s picking the wrong players
He won’t change the system
He’s stubbornAm I referring to Cook, Barrow, Joyce, Caldwell, Mackay, Rosler, Coyle, Bobby Lad, etc., etc.
Let’s hope we don’t get to ‘he’s lost the dressing room’
They’re not the City the City fans used to love.
Totally changed.I’ve heard that accusation made against other clubs.
Non Football Stuff
Well you’re getting warmer but no coconut yet.
My dad took me to watch the Latics play at Springfield Park when I was a very small boy and despite being wooed by the might of Old Trafford in the late sixties my heart is and always has been with my home team.
My many match memories include FA cup games against Manchester City (1971); Mansfield Town (1974) when we were lucky to survive the snow over the Cat and Fiddle; and Everton (1980).
I also went to watch their very first game against Hull City when they were promoted to the Football League (back then) the Fourth Division.I moved away in 1984 but the club dropped me from email updates because (I assume) I have never been to the DW and I don’t live near Wigan. That hurt!
You may want to edit ‘Hull City’ and ‘promoted’ bits.
What’s the difference between a Scotsman and Walt Disney?
A Scotsman wears a kilt but…
Pretty decent City team that and a cracking Latics side too.Corrigan, Book, Mann, Doyle, Booth, Oakes, Summerbee, Bell, Lee, Young, Jeffries – sub Carrodus
Reeves, Turner, Sutherland, Milne, Coutts, Gillibrand, Temple, Todd, Davies, Fleming, Oates
Latics sub – Ian Ledgard. City left back Mann, was mentioned in a Beatles song.
And, Dave. They are amongst the richest business people in Asia, and that really is saying something.
If these guys are so rich, then they could easily afford to terminate the contract with the rugby and pay them the £20m or so compensation that may be due for buying out the remainder of a 50 year lease. That would be recouped with one season in the prem.
Similarly, if they are so rich and the pitch does hinder the progress up the league, then these guys are rich enough to move the football club to a purpose-built stadium that isnt below the water line, and that is full every week, as they wont want to have “their” club on TV in the far east playing to a 30% full stadium.
With DW, we knew what we were getting – an honourary Wiganer who loved the town, but these new owners have no affinity to the town, and could easily move their club to an area where there is a bigger fanbase.
Where would Wigan Athletic have a bigger fanbase?
In an area where football league clubs are scarce and population larger. Salisbury/Winchester area has quite a large population but no league club for miles. As far as I’m aware, they don’t even have a top level rugby club competing for support!
Football fans from Salisbury/Winchester are within 15-20 miles of Southampton (not far) and 30-40 miles of Bournemouth and Portsmouth. Two of these clubs are currently in the Premier League.
Milton Keynes is already taken.
Anywhere else?

As a smoker it was good to find out yesterday that you can enjoy a sly puff outside at halftime where the East Stand joins the South Stand ! The far steps down and doors open for all us gaspers ! I was never one for a sly cig in the bogs but this will stop that and can only be a good thing no ?Smoking increases your risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions. Some may be fatal and others can cause irreversible long-term damage to your health. I wouldn’t agree it was a good thing, but I’m in the Springfield.
