Apparently, he broke it in two places. He shouldn’t go to those places! (With acknowledgment to Tommy Cooper). Come on, it’s Children in Need.

Do dogs have toenails?

in reply to: Should he stay or should he go now? #135294

But he may be asked to ‘…stay just a little bit longer…’

Without trying to sound too much like Brian Sewell, it is ‘fewer present’, ‘fewer youngsters’ and ‘fewer freebies’ given out…

‘Less’ means not as much

‘Fewer’ means ‘not as many’

‘Fewer’ should be used when you are talking about items that can be counted individually, for example, “fewer than 10 apples”. Less is correct when quantities cannot be individually counted in that case, e.g. “I would like less water”.

Regards,

‘Your friendly neighbourhood Latics pedantic tw*t of a fan who pretended to go to Goole in 1971.’

Ah yes the video. Commentators Martin Tyler and Lou Macari had done their homework and knew everything about the team that was going to lift the trophy. However, there is a marked change when they realise that team is Wigan Athletic and start using the programme pen pictures for research. Lazy journalism? Surely not where Latics are concerned.

Radio Liverpool commentary:

It’s the 63rd minute and Wigan’s Caldwell latches on to a McCarthy volley but there’s no threat as Carroll is covering…

No can’t say that it does. However, the last time I went watching Latics at Chorley it was ‘Escape from Victory Park’

I like chorley and there ground reminds me of springfield park.
Saw som scrotes outside an off y at 12 treating the front of it like some French pavement bar???
The old bill arrived in force afterwards – seemed a bit over the top – a day out in Bamber BRidge – away day sesh!!

What parts of Victory Park remind you of Springfield Park?
The grass terraces ,the closeness to the pitch ,the bar and the old stand .
I think those examples could apply to many non-league grounds. If they remind you of Springfield Park OK, but I think Victory Park is nothing like Springfield. The Oval yes, but not Victory Park.

If the Premier League made England sh*t, what made us sh*t pre Premier League?

Hyde United changed their name to Hyde F.C. in 2010, so not really no longer existing

Wigan Borough changed their name to Wigan Athletic in 1932, so not really no longer existing?

in reply to: your first ever away game #133289
Awaits someone saying it was Goole along with some anecdote about the Goole ‘Gooligans’!

You’d have thought so but no, first away game was Hyde United at Ewen Fields, Cheshire League, 1967-68. Not to be confused with Hyde Rangers (Hydrangeas ged it!)

Oh, please yourselves.

BTW, the referee was Kevin McNally who progressed to referee in the first division 1972-1981. Hyde United no longer exist. Can’t remember what happened to Wigan Athletic.

The starting 11 from Goole 1971

That would be Reeves, Turner, Sutherland, Milne, Coutts, Gillibrand, Temple, Todd, Davies, Fleming and Oates. ;)
