Purely for the fact that it was the FA cup, Canvey Island takes some beating.

That, and every point we drop against Liverpool

How could Scotland be out of his depth against a championship side, a league in which he scored a panful last season?

Lazy, dis-interested, ideas above his station maybe, but out of his depth? It’s a fact that he isn’t.

The first rose tinted glasses quote of the Carling cup doesn’t matter ! The Carling Cup has been the only highlight of our sad existence in the Prem to date ! Unless you class a do or die final game against Sheff Utd as being a highlight !

You’d probably have preferred to lose the Sheff U game, I guess?

McMillan is better that the pair of them

Yeah, I know what you’re saying but I think he’s carrying a knock at the moment. :D

If I hated being here I wouldnt go to games for years, have a season ticket etc. My love for the club doesnt mean I should love the bloke running it. We here about the debt the club as and how we dont make money, so Whelan put Lindsey on the board of directors. You couldnt make it up.

Seriously, stop with the “i have a season ticket”. Plenty of us do.

And as much as I despise Maurice Lindsay, have you ever seen a poor bookie? Who better to make money for the club? And if you are insinuating that he is taking money out of the club, then back it up instead of just slagging him off.

Actually, what I don’t get about the Lindsay thing (changing tack slightly) is that when he was appointed, part of me thought it was a good thing, seeing what he had done to raise the rugby’s profile and all that. But since he joined our board, I don’t see what he has done at all.

Now, if you want me to criticse Whelan, I will on this one – appointing Lindsay was the biggest political own goal ever and for sure it was the best way to alienate most Latics fans.

Since when did 40 Premiership games qualify you to be “vastly experienced” anyway ?

Especially with Edman sat on the bench.

… how many of the anti-Whelan brigade were once an employee of the great man and are now venting their spleen at him because he wouldn’t pay them £40k per week to turn out cheap trackies.

    Just a thought, but I bet there’s a few.

Whelan is the best, he is actually quite sexy, what he has done for the club will never be forgotten, we are more than happy with a relegation scrap, we dont want quality players, what does it matter if we sell the team, who cares about cups any way, theres only one Dave Whelan. [/quote]

    Bit. Hook, line and…

What were you? A packer, a picker or did you unload the supplier deliveries to the warehouse? :D

And another thing that has sprung to mind tonight…

How many chairmen of premier league clubs are multi-millionaire businessmen? Oh aye, probably all of them, and most, if not all of them, with more money to throw away at a football club than Whelan has.

So, let’s narrow the criteria. Of these 20 millionaires, how many of them actually played professional football and therefore have the first idea of how the game works? Not sure of the exact answer but I bet it’s in the ball park of zero. About the same number of people who post on this board.

God response to my cast, by the way – as childish and pointless as I expected. You have one tune and it’s being played over and over again. It is tedious.

ok im not the best speller but my 1st game was in 78 and been a season ticket holder from 89-90 season i have seen some shyte from chairmans and players and managers. but when you see what steve bruce as done for wigan and then to be ripped apart from him with selling his best players no wonder he as gone. bobby is a good manager people seen what he did at swansea and then he will come to wigan and his hands are tied with lack of funds he will be made a scapegoat they way things are going. loaned players and championship players what are not good enough. am glad i have not a season ticket this time because im sick of being ripped off from a greedy chairman whos interest is filling his own pocket. plus i like the way he says i have a dream of getting wigan into europe thats two veg.

I’m sorry fella, but you must be terminally stupid, or blind, or know nothing about football.

Under Bruce, we got a few lucky wins which got us safe and then we played the most turgid football I have ever seen and all he could say was “I think our lads are already on holiday”. He was right, but it was his job to fix it. Now Martinez is trying to get them back from the beach.

I remember Bruce saying “United and Chelsea play this 4-5-1 formation and I think it’s the way to go”. Yes Steve, but they played it with an attacking mentality, not a “let’s lump it up front to a fella running his nads off for nothing while everybody else drops back and tries to barricade us in for a draw” approach.

I’ve said already this pre-season that I would rather watch us lose 4-3 now and again than have mind-numbingly boring 0-0 draws every week.

I’m not particularly happy about losing 5-0 and 4-1 to Blackpool, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Sorry to pick on you, but yours was the first mindless post I came to tonight. It could have been any one from many, I guess.

Wouldnt be lied to and conned.

Seriously, go and watch Chester then, you clearly hate being here.

You think our gates aren’t related. When DW appointed Lindsay, a lot of fans took exception. Then every year when it looks like were coming good, bang. £60m in debt, you think Whelan operates at a loss, he dumped JJB when he wasn’t making enough. He wanted the rubgy, you reckon he was making money when he sold them. Some of you are twisted round his little finger.

Bobby, everybody understands your viewpoint but just because you have that opinion doesn’t necessarily make it right does it?

Your entitled to your view and so is everyone else.

Such a money spinner like Pompey and Notts County? :o

Pompey – yes, almost full house every week. So potentially yes, a money spinner.

Notts County – they obviously think there is potential there, but it is not guaranteed. It’s a long way up to the money-spinning Premier League from where they are. Almost an impossible task, probably can’t be done.

Oh, hang on… but it has been done before hasn’t it? Takes a special type of bloke to have that kind of vision, drive and success.

in reply to: Match day money #7007
everyone on here thinks Whelan should just pour all of his fortune into Wigan Athletic just to keep a few mindless clowns on here happy…

    Of course he should.

Or he could sell up to Sheik Andvac, cos there’s hundreds of Arabs just dying to invest in Wigan Athletic because it’s such a money spinner.

in reply to: Match day money #6997
A couple of seasons ago I was told that the money that the club takes on match days does not actually go to the club? I was a bit shocked but have since spoken to a few people who are of the same opinion that the money from our corporate guests programme sales etc goes to Whelco holdings and not the club?

Has anyone else heard that one?

True. Apparently it all goes directly into Whelan’s sky rocket and he blows it on red wine, women and pies every weekend.
