Ah bollox! credit where it’s due. She’s has done well for herself with her scheming. I couldn’t manipulate or scheme my way out of a wet paper bag never mind acquire £1m worth of real estate for me and my mates’ pet club.

in reply to: Mark Hughes second choice to Bobby #67361

I know, I know I was wrong about his tactics, which came good in the end but caused me a lot of despair, anxiety and increased alcohol consumption during the months of torment. I suppose in the end I had a perverse kind of masochism in which I enjoyed the last two games, which resulted in joyous hangovers at work on two consecutive Mondays.

This goes to show why he earns £1m a year whilst I struggle along as an IT gimp. WTF do I know after watching and playing football for forty odd years?.

I actually hope he stays but Sky have him as 15/8 as the next Villa manager. Is he actually talking to them or is it bs?.

Strange how everyone is now reffering to our manager as Bobby and also are wanting him to stay. A few weeks ago he was martinez(or worse)and people were telling him to feck off(or worse).

Not quite everyone John, but I get your drift
Hiya loudmouth.
After reading the council’s arch rimming newspaper propaganda rag known as the Obby it now looks like the councillors have managed to ‘look after their mates’ after all. I didn’t want a party political argument either but this seemed to be a classical example of a couple of councillors doing favours for their own family and mates of theirs after calling in favours with their colleagues. I admit if I was in politics I’d be lining my pockets and helping my mates too but I’m not involved in politics and I’m a poor liar.

What annoyed me is when I read back in December, an excellent article by Chris Pearce in ‘Local Life’ that the council cabinet totally ignored the wishes of the Winstanley network which had plans for the site, and also a vote by the Orrell, Winstanley and Billinge forum to let a public consultation have some influence. Winstanley Warriors are supported by Winkworth and also the club chairman who happens to be the son of another leading councillor. So none of this should actually surprise me but it does.

Pearce wrote “At a cabinet meeting the Wigan cabinet consisting of 12 senior Labour councillors excluded press and members of the public from the meeting yet amazingly allowed the interested councillors to be present even though they weren’t even cabinet members”. Surprise, surprise Winstanley’s planning permission sailed through after promising “the community will have access to this! and to that blah blah blah!”. Yeah right.

So there you are Wigan Council are giving their pet councillors £1m worth of land for their team which could’ve been sold off to developers at a time when savings have to be made and services are being cut.

Even though I hate Highfield Grange FC with a passion and know little about Cherrybrook FC who are the two other clubs in the area I still think them and the rest of the community have been cheated. This land and building could’ve been used more communally, rather than just given to that club. I suppose its similar to Real Madrid getting money and gifts off the Spanish government but it still stinks.

I’m originally from Winstanley and still have an interest in the place so I hope vandals burn the clubhouse down one day. Not very constructive I know, but I hope they do.

Ha ha he was a scrote all along anyway for the other crimes he did, yet he cheeky cockney barstewards maintained he was innocent. I bet he was a West Ham fan as well.

I heard on the radio yesterday that following the campaign for his release and his subsequent release , that some months later he got caught …….doing an armed robbery.

Her name is just one letter away from the truth. What her and her fellow self serving councillors are trying to do for Winstanley Warriors and acquire Winstanley Community Centre and the surrounding land is nothing short of a disgrace, as that land belongs to the people of Wigan and not WWFC or them. Politicians never let you down when it comes to letting you down.

Is it just me that thinks she looks totally out of her depth when having photos with ‘normal’ people?

She is everything that is wrong with the voting public of Wigan, useless, inept, uneasy around people and guaranteed her position.

At least the Guaranteed Labour Makerfield MP stands right behind her.

Apparently we’re after Marlene Harewood. Don’t know whether Grandad Pollitt is signing another 1 yr.

Kaiser Dave has said to new overseas players that there’ll be no income tax, and to supporters groups no V.A.T. However he did say there’d be no money back or no guarantee of good performances.
Black or white, rich or poor are all welcome at the DW and that we’d cut prices at a stroke to maintain attendances……

in reply to: DW Fitness Club #66863
I’m looking to join a gym again after a few years any many added pounds. I wondered if anyone knows if you got any money off monthly price at DW for being a season ticket holder?

Its pointless fighting it Mark, so accept the inevitable and become a middle aged fat barsteward. Your Mrs and your family and friends will still love you. Believe me.

I’ve just resigned from said club as I hardly ever went.

in reply to: Where do you stand? #66862

I would hope MP’s would have better things to do such as improving the economy etc.

I would be for safe standing but it would mean most grounds would have to have major building work done to accomodate terracing. Modern stadia are designed for seats and therefore the steps are too steep to use as standing areas. I doubt it could be adapted without knocking down a whole stand at most grounds. It would be great to bring back the atmosphere standing brings but at what cost to the clubs? Will the powers that be allow it unless they can be sure we dont go back to the dark days.

fans stand at most grounds anyway.
Sammyn

has pulled out of the FIFA election contest against Sepp Blatter.

I wonder how much they paid him and how much they have promised him to do that?

Is there a more corrupt organisation?[/quote

Yes the European Union, has not had it’s accounts signed off for about 15 yrs. Time we withdrew from that as well.

in reply to: Meeting with Roberto #66745

Thanks for the retort. I did skim the article and did not digest it as much as I should’ve. It was well written and elegant in style but came across as a review of an expensive restaurant where you’d had a free meal or was best mates with the owner rather than an interview with a football clubs officials. Roberto did a good job keeping us up and I concede his toenail knows more about the game than I do but all is not rosy at the club, and you and the other writers came across as though you were grateful to be there.

For the record I am reasonably well read and enjoy books including yours. I did not need to google the polite word I used for ‘arse lickers’, which I know is a bit harsh but which I meant more of a joke than with malice or intent to offend greatly.

Translation. ” I have aspirations to be a professional writer and you and I are in the know as part of the inner circle of Cockneylatic who have occasional access to officialdom at the club and as a result will never bite the hand that feeds us unlike the great unwashed on here who don’t know any better. Now please bend over”.

At my age mate, I even think twice before Sky Plussing a 12-part series, let alone considering a career change. I can’t speak for SwindonLatic but I can assure you the only useful access I have to club officialdom is that I used to lose the odd 5-a-side football match with Stuart Hayton, but even he avoids me now. But thanks for guessing and getting it completely wrong.

Seriously the article was an enjoyable read but I didn’t even see any constructive criticism about what has been mainly a dark depressing and frustrating season. There was no ” do you not think with the squad we had we could’ve done better? ” “How do you think we can increase attendances?” “Some of our signings have been a disaster”.

I obviously didn’t quote the whole 80 minutes verbatim, and picked out what I believed to be of most interest (mainly the questions I asked  ). That said, with reference to the crowds bit didn’t you read the “Where are yer…?” section?

The season did end on a very happy note, but as a very occasional poster and according to our serious writers having only a limited vocabulary the word ‘sycophants’ did spring to mind.

Nice word that, sycophants. Did you think it up all by yourself, or did you pluck out of the final section of my article? I guess you must have done the former because, by now, I’m beginning to think you haven’t read the article very carefully at all.
in reply to: Why do you hate the Warriors? #66744

I created this thread but I don’t hate them anymore. I’m just not bothered. Good luck to them. We co-exist and thats it.

in reply to: Manure or Barca?? #66743

Couldn’t care less. Those clubs are representing themselves and not even the cities they come from.

I liked Hitchhiker’s (Latics and Espanyol fan) description of Barcelona and their fans “hijos de putas y turistos” “sons of whores and tourists” could equally apply to United and their fans. As for Celtic and Rangers, I wouldn’t even flatter them with this label.

I even support Liverpool, Bolton, City et al when then they are in Europe as I justify it as them representing England.

So I have no problem in getting behind United in this one…

Quite right Jay. I’ll support any British team in Europe. Even Celtic at a push.
A very good read Griff. As an ex-journalist I suggest you do a bit more writing in your spare time as you write very well.

Very kind of you to say so. I love the writing. As bizarre as it may sound given the amount of posting I do on this forum, the ‘spare time’ is the issue.

However, as is patently obvious from some of the activity on here, any old fool can post the odd one-liner or paragraph or two. Proper writing takes a bit more time and effort, as I’m sure you will clearly appreciate, given your past.
The East stand is full of skinny youths and messed up skinflints and sellers of the big issue. Whenever we’ve tried it’s always been crap and I’ve ended up longing for the the WS and gazing at my usual location.

However, years go we were told, after I said it was ridiculous to charge an 8yr old £190 and I didn’t fancy the north (back then) east or the south. “The WS is an exclusive stand because it doesn’t face the sun and people have access to corporate facilities etc blah, blah blah “. I actually hate seeing freeloading corporate parasites in suits etc at matches but thats a different story.

Basically told I was self important and to ‘STFU’ if I didn’t like it. Fair enough, but nobody should be mystified if the damn stand is hardly ever full.

The 8 yr old is now 14 and like cowards, to this day we’ve eaten ‘humble pie’ and sit in the Victor Meldrew stand.

Why isn’t this guy banned?. Although he comes up with some reasonable arguments occasionally until the cherryand shites allow us to post stuff he should be banned and his postings removed. I know his sport is a parochial and irrelevant but he should be denied his soapbox.

They must of took over 6500 like Warrington did last week then
    :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Strange how the visiting end holds 2000 more for a rugby match than it does for a football match. I thought rugby fans were twice the size of football fans!

I thought the North Stand held 5400, which was reduced to 4500 due to it being unreserved seating for Rugby matches, so I think your maths may be out, particularly when you consider that there were quite a few empty seats in the North Stand.

Secondly, granted Warrington brought around 4000 last Friday, but when you compare how many (few) they take to anywhere other than Wigan and St Helens, you’ll find that over the season, more Wiganers travel to away games than anyone else.

I note you dont dispute the bit about the Latics’ travelling support – however I’m surprised you didnt try to compare it to a to a trip to Bolton for Fulham to massage the statistics!

Any more freebies going for today?
