Imagine if Fat Sam had been in charge omg. Gareth has done a great job and I really hope he takes us forward

He came up in conversation at work funnily enough dingle… General consensus was that if Fat Sam was still in charge he’d have been slaughtered by the media & fans. Nearly all our goals came from set pieces & we struggled to score in open play, but Southgate is adored at the moment?

Enjoyed the World Cup & it was nice to get a good run for a change.

Thought Belgium were great in first half and made up they won. Brazil are a bunch of sneaky cheating gits who aren’t as good as the media make them out to be. Naymar is overrated.

Let’s hope they beat France and then lose to us in the final..

All these coincidences were being raised for Liverpool recently and looked what happened there..

Ah! But jimmy, they came out with the same coincidences in 2005 & they won it then.
:) Law of averages i suppose Runcorn..
What were the coincidences in 2005 by the way

I get what VAR is for, but I’ve dug out a statement made by Collina where he tells officials to let it go if not sure.
In principle this is ok but this must take away some of the ref’s / lines mans natural instinctiveness & hope that VAR will have a word in their ear.
I’ve seen a couple of times where a decision hasn’t been made by any pitch officials nor VAR?
And Collina’s comments about having “13 referees who officiate” raises an eyebrow with me..

At the end of the day the ref makes an immediate decision in a pressure environment with everything going on around him so he will make mistakes he has an excuse.VAR has no excuse whatsoever and should be right 100 per cent of the time yet some of the decisions made have been outrageous. It is still down to different individuals making different calls. Scrap it and go back to trusting the man in the middle to do his job. Its hard enough for the ref as it is without him relying on some bozo who cant get it right after looking at it from every angle on a screen.

No change there then NL as with or without VAR the big clubs definitely get the decisions. In principle I think VAR is ok but It’s new and there’s teething problems

I’m with you in that the ref should be making the decisions. Seems some officials are not calling it and hoping VAR make the decision for them.

Not sure I get where / when or who decides VAR is needed. Serbia had a stone wall pen waved away tonight with not one but two players bear hugging mitrovic to the floor..
I just don’t get why refs or VAR are not giving pens for this, it’s friggin ridiculous.

I am under the impression that the VAR advise the ref to look and then it is his decision as to whether he does and whether he changes his mind. I like that idea if that is right tbh.

Tyldsley will be able to confirm.
That wasn’t a penalty for Serbia yesterday. The Serbian forward was grabbing the bloke in front of him & both Swiss players were grabbing him – you can’t give anything for that as they’re all fouling each other.
The Serbian player then let’s go & forearms the 2 Swiss guys in the face & they start to pull him to the floor.
So many fouls that you can’t isolate any one of them – not sure how the ref managed to choose one on the end. He should have stepped in earlier

Egg is right about how it works as I understand it
Mitrovic wasn’t holding either player initially, his contact was him trying to get them off. The forearm you refer to looked like him trying to jump but couldn’t with the all over him.
Anywhere else on the pitch and that would have been a foul.
Good idea mentioned above, maybe each manager / team should get a chance to call VAR themselves.

Assume asking price was too high for us? Or was he not for sale?

Harry McGuire is a decent defender for me.
But like a lot of defenders he isn’t the most comfortable trying to play a ball out when being closed down…. Just get rid should have been the message.

You sure about Deli Ali, VAT? He’s a bit of a passenger at the mo for me and we certainly don’t have a top class playmaker in the middle. We’ve a top class centre forward…
Don’t think people are being negative just realistic.
