Who’s worrying about crowds? My comment is that 20k fans is ok.
Your comment, the way I’m reading it, insinuates that anything less than 20k IS something to worry about.
That’s what I was responding to.
Well, that and the “bad press” comment.
You read it wrong then. I’ve not said i am worried about our crowd but that the figures mentioned by others on here if true, were poor. But they were way off the mark.
As for the bad press comment, it has already started has it not. Not bothered about that either, i just knew what was around the corner. If it is close to 20k then nothing to worry about. That aint too bad a figure for a semi.
No bad press is a positive step for our little club me thinks? We’ve nothing to worry about anyway.
If we win, then who cares how many we took?
Doubt there’ll be many off here crying themselves to sleep Saturday night thinking, “Yes we’re in the final, but we only took 15,000… waaaah” :( :( :(
And what if we did take LOADS?
Do you think the media & football world will love us all of a sudden..?
Will the bad press disappear? They’d just change their jibes from “Wigan have no fans” to “Look at all these glory hunting day trippers in the Wigan end. Where are they at their home games?! LOL”.
We can’t win either way – that’s the way it is.We’re Wigan, bad press/feeling comes our way and we laugh it off.. surely you’re used to it by now?
Stop worrying about the f*cking crowd and focus on what’s important – THE RESULT.
If we take 20k then that will be ok. Not great but a lot better than the misery figures of 13k or 15k that were being banded around recently.
Looks like Millwall could get another 10k tickets then?We won’t take 20k. And so what?
There are plenty on here who go mad about the media’s apparent dislike of Wigan because we are a “small club”. But some make excuses for a poor turnout to convince themselves it is ok?
Regardless of what some people say on here, if we took only 15k the media would have a field day.
Then I suggest you get prepared for a media field day, if that sort of thing bothers you.
Stoke, Newcastle & Sunderland are the ones to watch. Especially Stoke as their fans have been on Pulis’s back for a while now which is the last thing the club needs for a run in like theirs. Next match up for them is Man U and all bar one of their remaining fixtures is against teams at the bottom.
A result for us tomorrow wouldn’t half put the cat amongst the pigeons?Coventry away , Darren Patterson’s equaliser and the pitch invasion which followed. Good times. That was my best memory also RC, was behind the goal myself so couldn’t get onto the pitch
Getting beat at Hartlepool in the late 80s was not so good though :(
I was born in Wigan but as one or two others on here had family from Liverpool. Mum was a blue & dad was a red. So i naturally followed my dads team Liverpool. My brother took me to a game at Springfield park in 78 but i can’t remember much about it (other than some bloke walking past me with blood streaming down his face) Got to about 85 and started taking an interest in Wigan and then in 86 asked me ewd chap would he mind if i supported Wigan!! He’s half converted now
Loads of great memories over the years following Wigan.
Keep the side that’s finished the last three games so strongly;Robles
Scharner Alcaraz Figueroa
Boyce McCarthy McArthur Beausejour
Gomez Kone MaloneyMcArthur brings a more stable midfield – which helps both attack and defence. Di Santo has had a rest – I’d be happy to see him re-appear over the next few games. He was building a good understanding with Kone.
There are good reports of Al Habsi, but I guess that Martinez will stick with Robles as long as Wigan are winning. McManaman has shown that he can offer an alternative when required.
I’d be tempted to put Gomez in for McArthur and put Callum up front. Big pitch for Gomez to spread the ball about and Plenty of running in Callum.
as you say season ticket holders should have first shout but then second dabs should be to the folkes without season tickets who actually have a ticket from the semi. Reward them rather than the jcl who fancies a day out at the final…
Yes, totally agree, and in all honesty I thought the same myself.
The only problem with that for me is that if we have sold around 15k tickets so far, haven’t the greater percentage of them been sold to ST holders anyway? I’m not convinced we’ve sold many to non ST holders anyway.
And also, if they did make it Semi ticket holders after ST holders, how would they administrate it? Can used tickets be swiped and show who was the purchaser? Tickets don’t have your name on, do they? I just think it could get chaotic. How’s about if we get in the final Mr Whelan lays on some coaches and on production of your semi ticket you travel for free?
Of course, GarswoodLatic is right. Lets beat Millwall first! I agree with Griff’s comments as well.
Simply turn up with ticket in hand, you’d be on the database as buying one for the semi and away you go..
After season ticket sales you could have an allotted time for these guys to purchase. Going off the amount of tickets we appear NOT to have sold this slot of time would only be a few minutes :silly:This statement is very correct Garswood and i for one am keeping my feet very firmly on the ground. Quite a few Evertonians i know were taking Wembley for granted…. :cheer:
Be gutted if the same happens to us
we e the final though, I hope the club is savvy about how they sell final tickets. We’d get 25k so make it first come first served for ST holders, max 2 per ticket, for first week of sale. Then any what’s left on general sale. That would also eradicate any need for mad queuing at daft hours, apart from when the few that’s left go on general sale.
Season ticket holders would be sorted and have a week to casually get a ticket.
Sorry for quoting my previous post, but if we do get in the final, every gobsh#%e in town will want a ticket and the club are going to have to be very careful about how they sell them. They can’t make it 3 per season ticket. I think they could make it 2 per ST, if you think we have between 10 and 12k ST holders. Give ST holders a week to go and claim their tickets, and the 3-4,000 left could then go on general sale.
No need for ST holders to have to go and queue, if they do this. Is there? If they mess up and it becomes a big free for all, 25k might not go far with all and sundry wanting one. Come to think of it, how many councillors, etc will be on the claim for a ‘complimentary’ ticket? That 25k could soon become 23 or 22k. Well, as long as the ST holders all get one.
Yes, we have to beat Millwall first!
ABL, if we get to the final then as you say season ticket holders should have first shout but then second dabs should be to the folkes without season tickets who actually have a ticket from the semi. Reward them rather than the jcl who fancies a day out at the final…
Couldn’t give 2 s**ts about how many we take to be honest.
As long as all our proper fans are out in force showing some passion & making some noise, then I’ll be happy.
If we did take 25k, then 10k would just be day-trippers who couldn’t give a flying fork whether we won or not… so I’m really not arsed whether those sort of people decide to turn out.
Ye, it would look better for the TV cameras – but who’s bothered, really?
We’ve had enough stick in the past for our following, and look at us… 8 years in the Prem and at Wembley watching our little club in the FA Cup semis.
If people want to overlook our achievement, and just want to poke fun at the fact a team based in a town of 80000 people couldn’t sell 30000 tickets, then leave them to it.
They’re clearly simple minded tossers who know f*ck all about our club, or football in general.
Big attendances don’t win you games.
No fans, no money, no history… NO WORRIES!
you say that but most players will tell you that fans spare them on and can act as a 12th man
Quite right, and it would stop people harping on about the size of our fanbase…
On another note, i might be wrong with this but does anyone else think there has been a lack of promoting for this semi by the club? Would have thought the club would have marketed this better with the local radio station & papers etc to create more of a buzz around town?
Just rang ticket office for extra tickets for Wembley.
Reply where would you like to sit take your pick :ohmy:Why when we are 90 mins away from Europe have we not at least nearly sold out embarassed by our support sometimes.
Arr well will just have to shout and sing louder
Come on lads get behind the team and get your tickets
I did the same yesterday and considering i bought mine on the first day of them going on sale to season ticket holders the two additional tickets were in the very next block. Didn’t expect us to sell out but hoped we could take 20k as anything less will be a bit embarrassing.
Grimsby & Wrexham took about 18k each for their final at Wembley and they are non league
