We are a small club that have been punching way above our weight for years because Whelan dared to dream and invest a hell of a lot of his money in his local team. Martinez had the best squad we have ever had available to him, but because of injuries and mistakes it went wrong in the league last year. Time to move on and get behind this new team and manager.

Gary Neville? Why would he leave the best and easiest job in the Country to take a pay cut and manage us?
    Phil Neville maybe.

Have heard the dates for the 3rd qualifying round are 1st August (first leg) and 8th August (2nd leg), with the draw taking place on the 19th July.

I’m assuming it’s pot luck whether you’re home or away for the first leg though, right?

Edit: just seen the post above this…so the play off is after the 3rd qualifying round? I.e. runners up of the FA Cup are given preference over the winners of the League Cup, even though we’ll finish lower than Swansea in the league?

If we lose to City we are (as Garswood rightly pointed out) in the play off, the draw for which is on 8th August and games to be played 22nd and 29th. Have a look on wikepedia it gives a good run down of who enters when.

We will win the Cup though and get straight into the Group Stage.

Wigan Athletic are playing in the FA cup final, they can ko at 5.30 on a Thursday afternoon for all I care. Stop whining and enjoy the moment.

We will sell however many we sell, no more no less. Those that want to go will go those that dont wont, cant see why people that are going worry about who isnt going. If your going enjoy the day and dont worry about the people that have chosen to miss the game.

    Try Wigan Athletic Football Club!

European football would impose an enormous burden on Wigan.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City can all field different teams in midweek games. Even with their relatively large squad, Newcastle are struggling in the league this season, just as Stoke and Fulham struggled before them.

Wigan simply do not have the resources to compete in both the Premier League and the Europa Cup. It’s not something that I would welcome.

    Miserable get

I am pretty sure that we have to win the cup to get into Europe next season, they changed the rule (I think) after Millwall got in a few years ago when they lost to Man Utd.

If they didnt give a crap they would not be geting so worked up. It isnt great to see teamates at each others throat but it hardly shows that they dont care, a bit of frustration thats all.
I am glad Di Santo hates being subbed it shows that he wants to be on the pitch helping the club out. That said when a player gets taken off he should always (unless injured and getting treatment) sit on the bench to support the team.

Id say B because a trip to macclesfield back on the terraces is just to big to miss plus well take 2000 fulham game isnt that important it will neither relegate nor keep us up

I am glad their is still someone else out there that doesnt think the Prem is the be all and end all!

in reply to: Emmerson Boyce #94739

To be fair he is just a defender, he has never been much good going forward his crossing and shooting are average at best. That is probably why he playing for us though! I think Martinez is asking to much of him but do we have anybody better in that position with the system we play? Stam is better going forward but cant defend and Myachi doesnt really look strong enough. So Boyce it is, so lets get behind the feller.

    in reply to: Beausejour #93580

Our problem is not having a winger on the other side, Boyce is a defender and that is all, he looks so uncomfortable going forward I feel sorry him.

With the system we play with 1 up front your Midfielders have got to make runs beyond the Centre Forward and this just does happen. when our wide players have the ball there just isnt anyone in the area to cross to. This has to be the Managers responsibility to tell them.

Dont know if he is good enough to be honest Hindley. I work with a Blacky season ticket holder and he really rates him, but like you say it is a massive step up. Would be nice to have someone come through the ranks for a change though.
