Maradona for me…..Inspired a sleeping napoli and led them to 2 Italian league titles,Italian cup and Eufa cup. Then in 86 led an average Argentina squad to world cup success. At the moment he just edges it for me as Messi is playing in a team loaded with talent and possibly the best club side ive seen.Pele as expected has to be up there, but he played nearly all his career in Brazil and his national team was crammed with football folklore names..

goodpost I couldnt agree more,Sammon puts a shift in but i.m.o he falls short of Prem standard. We will only create a small no of real goalscoring opportunities and we need an AJ style finisher to convert 1.I appreciate how difficult they are to come by but his attempts so far dont inspire confidence that he will ever address this.

Robbie contributed to Bosselli’s downfall by him being left up top on his own.First game Blackpool home surely not ideal debut game knowing how fired up pool would be.The fact he only just missed out on Argy world cup squad behind the likes of Higuain,Messi,Tevez means he must be better than what we saw.He wasnt the biggest unit so lone roll surely not his forte, certainly not in the prem.I think he systematically had his confidence crushed ,shame……..

Just have to see if anything develops…..cant see our transfer activity exciting us.Even championship players look at our predicament and swerve us.It took the club 3 prem seasons to build a profile where decent players were now giving us a second look but that has been eroded away by the perpetual relegation struggle and hammerings. Now its mediocre foreign players and sub standard home ones that seem willing to join us.Seems an eternity ago that we came close to signing the likes of AJ followed by Heskey .In our present state doesnt look like those days will return unless Bill Gates has a mental collapse and tips his legacy into the pot!!!

goodpost …Back to back wins once in 80 odd games, and not a smell of a tiny cup run to enthuse us all…How the hell can anyone defend the indefencible. We still have hope but that will diminish by the game as long as he continues in office, sad but fact….

Mr Whelans biggest mistake was not appointing someone like a Kinnear /Bassett or someone similar with a lifetime of experience just to help guide him.Blackburn made the same fatal mistake with ince where naivety and inexperience were his downfall. The line needs to be drawn now,new man ,different ideas and somehow grind, fight and poke the prem hierarchy firmly in the eye and say “”we are going nowhere”…..As much as some posters are in denial Robbies reign must end …period…..He will not change his flawed tactical philosophy ,his delvings into the market have been lamentable (moses al habsi apart)..and anyone who remembers the lower league days minus the rose specs surely doesnt want to return there..?This next 2 weeks could be among the most important in the clubs history with massive decisions that Mr Whelan has to address. Some of my lifes highlights have involved my club,Southport out us in,Tommy Gore at Chelsea,Freight rover final, promotions, relegations,Carling cup final…….As much as we all really wanted Robbie to be a huge success unfortunately the well being of Wigan Athletic must take priority and should Mr Whelan fail to address this as a matter of urgency then he will have let the club and its supporters down….!!!

I have followed this board for quite some time but have never joined in partly because of my inadequate 1 finger typing skills.I have finally taken the plunge mainly because of my beloved clubs precarious plight.I dont wish to be labelled dark/light sider but anyone who believes a drop to the championship would be beneficial should be sectioned under the 1974 mental health act !!I will not ramble on about the financial implications as im sure we all know this ,but just look at all those clubs with larger support crawling all over each other to get where we are.I hope we never have to find out but i fear we could vanish off the radar should we be relegated ,a pessemistic but wholly possible senario. As far as the on field performances during Robertos tenure go then a blunt summary would be abysmal.Statistics tell the story and if you want to manipulate these to defend him then that is your perogative.116 teams in all 4 divs and conference last season only brum scored less goals ,and as we stand the problem has not been addressed now the 116th lowest scoring team. Now before certain posters talk lack of funds i think you’ll find Scotland, bosselli, sammon,di santo, add up to a tidy sum with a combined stike rate of about 1 in 10 as for rodellega not quick, lightweight, disappears during games and poor finisher.Martinez is trying to get us playing like barcelona well im afraid you need barcelonas players for that .He is trying to play a style a football that is not productive with the crap he has brought in …Turd/Polish comes to mind.We overplay, pass it around in lovely triangles then nothing. He has continued to tell us how much possession we have and how we didnt get what we deserved, well we got exactly what we deserved . Arsenal at the end last season lost 2 away games at stoke and Bolton after having over 70% possession ,converting this into goals is the trick. Can anyone honestly say that Moses, habsi apart the rest have been anywhere near the standard required.League results 8-0,9-1…5-0’S akimbo, cup results like notts co,palace, swindon ,blackpool.I could ramble on all day quoting stat after stat the bottom line is ive had a 35 year hard slog to find this utopia and i refuse to give it up by lying down and have my belly tickled. This is now robertos team ,there can be no more sunderland ,swindons tough love is the only answer and Mr Whelan has really a simple decision to make now ……..If we are to go then i would rather it be under a new man who can galvanise us all and give us half a chance to continue confounding our numerous critics……..Thanks for reading,….coat on ..goodbye.
