Can’t believe we are still discussing this topic during the pre-season.

Out of interest is this debate ever likely to end at some point this season (which hasn’t even started yet), or will it continue until martinez leaves EFC to embark upon a new challenge.

He, more than Bruce, got that team ticking and is a fine coach with a focus on fitness, which will suit Uwe’s style.

    A very good signing.

    My sentiments exactly.

The guy is a wigan legend IMO & though i totally detest rugby, i would have no problem with it. Having met the bloke on numerous occassions during my pool playing days for poolstock LC/Beer Engine then Poacher, i have total respect for the guy & a top bloke to boot. I saw him a few times at springfield park myself & conversations would either be latics or pool – never rugby though.

Also because he was a legend in his position, he actually kept my grandad from playing in the first team.

Won’t be getting ours until January this time.

Can’t afford it.Too many outgoings at present. :(

Something has to give and this is it. We’d miss 2 home games anyway due to the holiday which also had to be paid this month.

I’ll be picking my games up to Christmas then getting a half year come January.

Same here argus. That & my rota clashing with a few homes games this season. Will be going to the first game then take it from there.

According to reports boyd has almost signed, & rosler is after 1 more striker. Whelan says we will sign a total of 3 – 4 players to boost our promotion campaign

Spots & leopards spring to mind.

Wonder if his adoring scouse supporters dig out their old t-shirts again ready for next season.

Will Woy tender his wesignation now?

Cant blame hodgson IMO for us having a mediocre defence. Though i cant stand these 2 we needed a cole & terry in there, ie leaders. Attack & midfield wise i think were ok & will be better once the most over-rated player in english football retires ie, mr liverpool himself.

Looking at his “record” has he got more convictions or goals?

1 goal in 18 appearances for us according to Wikipedia. He certainly wasn’t the answer to our striker issues!

am i right in thinking that his solitary goal came from the penalty spot.

in reply to: Tin hat for Caldwell #131122

Caldwell isn’t good enough. In the Prem apart from those last seven games the season we stayed up he wasn’t good enough. He’s been out all season comes back and missed a penalty at Wembley setting the tone for the shoot out. Plays well and then lunges in giving away a penalty. You may disagree but he’s a liability and I’d rather see him punch the floor somewhere else

It seems Gary is the Mr Chinnery of the team. Not that he is the only one who makes mistakes of course but his tend to be the important ones, such as Swansea at home, the penalty at Wembley and on Monday.
That used to belong to a senor gomez

in reply to: It’s no coincidence #131105

I know full well we need a striker as I have commented on another thread but the fact we didn’t play two up front is not why we stayed down. If you play one striker and he scores 30 goals you’ll have a chance. We didn’t score enough goals AS A TEAM.
We do create shedloads of chances during games, but struggle to convert those chances.

in reply to: It’s no coincidence #131103

The reason why we struggle up front IMO is because we buy strikers who are familiar with playing alongside a strike partner & who are not used to playing in that “lone striker” role, or 2 other frontmen with them. Simple solution is to either buy a striker used to that role or go 2 up front.

in reply to: It’s no coincidence #131086

So what strikers could we realistically get for next season.

in reply to: How Long Before “Bottom Four Bob” #131085

Rosler too will leave one day. If he is sacked – for failure – he will be the subject of abuse. If he is successful and leaves for a bigger club, then again he will be the subject of abuse. He can’t win.
But only if rosler were to relegate us then jump ship at the first chance. I’ve said this before & i’ll say it again. Had we have stayed up last season & roberto decided that was as far as he could take us,i would not have had a problem with him leaving for a bigger & better club.

    in reply to: Positives #131047

Positives are that we get another season of stress free football, mixing with supporters of other teams who are on even keels as ourselves & as a result no arrogant fans, no big time charlie teams (norwich, cardiff & even fulham are equal to ourselves). Uwe gets a full summer to bring in who he wants – finance permitting. Roll on august i say.
