The only treacherous thing Bruce did really was give me a crick with his dull brand of football.
Amazing these football related complaints, I seem to have developed a permanent stoop watching our goal keepers picking the ball out of the back of the net under martinez.
9 times in 1 game
8 times in 1 game
6 times in 1 game
5 times in 3 separate games
4 times in 12 games
3 times on a whopping 18 separate occasions.I must admit that those games were certainly not dull.
No they weren’t, and neither were the wins against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City, or the thumping of Newcastle at the DW, or winning the FA Cup Final.I know which I’ve preferred watching, and it was wasn’t the grinding out of a one-nil win with a tight back four and a hoof upfield for Heskey to nod it on.
Martinez hasn’t been starved of money. Boselli £4million, Crusat £2 million Scotland £2 million, That’s £8 million pounds wasted for astartYes but what was Martinez’s net spend compared to the other previous Wigan managers (let alone the other Premier League managers)?
Paul Jewell’s net spend was £17.2 million, and his wage bill was £24.5 million
Steve Bruce’s net spend was £17.4 million, and his wage bill was £37.7 million
Up to last year, Roberto Martinez’s net spend was £1.4 million, and his wage bill was £35.7 millionSo, he had 8% of what the other manager had to spend, plus he had reduced the wage bill

I think it’s ridiculous that we’ve not even been told who’s applied for the job. Typical of Whelan and the club to let the fans down by causing all this speculation when really all we want to know is who the next manager is going to be! And us fans should be first to know, not Sky, BBC, newspapers etc.Bloody rubbish Wigan!
I think he should also tell us how much money he’s offering them. I have a right to know.
Theres a lot of speculation doing the rounds at the moment, DW says he has no idea, but there is interest?. I cant believe DW hasnt got the Manager he wants firmly fixed in his mind and that the process is not underway. At the last home match, Coyle was sat behind us, also there was David Platt, now without a job, Rene Meulensteen now wants to leave United and Steve McClaren is also available. The only one of that lot I wouldnt want is Owen Coyle, I dont rate him and he has done similar trecherous tricks in the past, as Steve Bruce did to us.
Out of our past players I would love back at the club in some role or other is Lee McCulloch, but I dont know how far advanced he is with his coaching badges. So thinking about all of this, a couple of names stand out,McClaren with Meulensteen as coach, that would be my ideal choice, but then I am not holding the purse strings!!!!
Lee McCulloch has his A, B and Pro License.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see him link up with Davie Weir at some point in the near future.
He did great things during his first spell in Holland and I think the Dutch approach to football would fit in well with what Martinez has developed.
However, he struggled at Wolfburg, at Twente second time round, with England, and a lot of the Boro supporters wanted him out despite getting them into Europe.
I still like the sound of Rene Meulensteen.
He was going anyway, he just feels shiiter he couldn’t keep us up before firing off.
At least Jewell had the decency to let the chairman and fans know his intentions before the Sheff Utd game, “go down I stop”.Thanks for the Fa Cup well done , now feck off your greebo.
What does greebo mean?
Simple question to you:
Do you believe everything you read in the Mirror?
No. But I believe everything I see in the mirror. Bob took us down and all that ‘he loves this club’ was and remains bollox. It was his job. He fooked us, now he has a better job. Fair play. That’s football. At least we won’t have to hear that post match drivel any more.
Martinez was quoted saying to Whelan , “I’ve took Wigan as far as I could” ,
wrong,
Div 1 & Div 2 would have been achievable with him in charge.
Doubt it. Martinez speaks much better English than that.
Come on boys and girls Bobby did is best to pull a good team together under financial constraints that no other premier league team had. OK he got us relegated but leaves us with a legacy that includes;
1) We have won a major trophy.
2) We have shown on many occasions that we can beat all the top four teams.
3) The good people of Wigan will support their football team if they play the right way, even though they are in a relegation fight.
Thanks for the memories bobby, if you do go to Everton though I hope you get relegated! B)
if you look at it on the whole we won 38 Prem games out of a possible 152 matches. So in theory I’ve watched us not win for 3 seasons…
that make sense ??.
You do know which team you support, don’t you? It’s not Bayern Munich, we are expected to lose more than we win.
I support Bayern Munich ! ;)
Quite. You certainly don’t support Wigan Athletic.
Well Wigan are my English team and seeing as I buy a season ticket every season ( Last 10 years ) I think that entitles me to be considered a supporter ! It’s been a multi trophy season for me ! :P
What entitles you to be considered a supporter of Bayern then?
Glory hunter what else
I shall rephrase and say that I am a fan of Bayern Munich and have been since I was about 9 !
Don’t you mean nein?Been saying Gary Neville for a while but he isn’t even in the betting.Failing that I would seriously take anyone of the Man Utd coaches or ex players, Rene, Phelan, Neville (G or P), Scholes, Beckham (the brand)
If we could get this Rene Muss……elbrough (will take me a while to get his name) You can pretty much guarantee that the staff Moyes get’s rid of will be coming here. I think this move could be very, very, very shrewd.
Pull this one out Dave. Please no Owen Coyle or Phil Brown type appointment.
I wouldn’t mind Davie Weir on the coaching staff. Was a great player centre half and an intelligent lad to boot.
pleasing to watch bored the life out of me back pass side pass back pass side thus us conceding goals for funYes, all that keeping possession nonsense is rubbish. Let’s get back to getting it forwards – straight up the middle.
Might as well be ridiculed for playing crap football as well as our small fanbase etc.
Anyone seriously considering Graeme Jones needs their head looked at, including Whelan.
Mick Mcarthy might get us up, but we’d then have to sack him and find someone else to keep us up. Same goes for Warnock.
Possibly Coppell or even Coleman, but ideally Di Matteo or Poyet.
Or how about Rafa? ;)
Why?
He has more experience than some of the names being banded about on here.
Really? How much of an influence hs he really been and what experience does he have to manage? It’d be Chris Hutchings all over again.
Remember the first couple of seasons when nobody could fathom why Bob had him as an assistant as he had no experience and when it looked as if they didn’t even communicate. That said I also wouldn’t touch Carra or anyone else with no managerial experience with a bargepole
Yes, really. (Jamie Carragher – as you’ve mentioned, Phil Neville, and Gary Neville to name three)Of course he and Roberto communicated, and Jones took the training sessions either with Martinez, or without him when other responsibilities took him away. He was heavily involved in every aspect of the team. They’re even mates away from the club so I’m sure football might have come up in conversation from time to time.
He may turn out to be another Hurchings, or he may turn out to be a revelation; we’ll never know until he is given a chance. He’s been approached for a couple of managerial jobs in the past so obviously someone has seen something in him.
Well he’s coached Utd to win quite a bit!!On 18 January 2007, Meulensteen rejoined Manchester United as technical skills development coach mainly to work with the first team. After the departure in July 2008 of their assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz to Portugal as their national team manager, Meulensteen took over as first team coach, with Mike Phelan being promoted to assistant manager. Both assumed their new roles on 13 August 2008.[3]
Since his appointment as first team coach, Rene has helped Sir Alex Ferguson secure the Premier League title in 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11 and 2012–13; the Community Shield in 2008, 2010, 2011, the League Cup in 2008–09 and 2009–10; the UEFA Champions League in 2007–08 and FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.
Impressive eh?
Lets hope he can coach defenders :cheer:
He’s obviously a decent coach – although that doesn’t mean he’ll automatically be a decent manager.

Is it just me but who the hell is …………….Rene Meulensteen 9/4 FAV ???Never heard of him!!! :(
Coach at Man U. Apparently he’s good with youth and skills development. On the face of it he sounds a good replacement considering what the club have been trying to achieve over recent years.
Shaun Wane or Graeme Jones
