Do we ever act early in the transfer window?
The whole “fit enough for the bench” argument always make me laugh. To make the bench you could be good for 20 minutes like Nick Powell was 2 years ago, but as good as you are no self respecting manager will play you from the start and see you limp off 20 minutes in and waste a substitution. Then of course fans moan “why has he played him when he isn’t fit?!”
If Grigg is at 60% and Vaughan/Garner are at 70% then they will start. If Cook feels Callum McManaman is a 20 minute gung ho, tactical substitution, impact player then that is what he’ll be.
Was 1-0 actually at the time to PNE.
We equalised from the spot and went on to score 3 in the 2nd half as their sub keeper had a nightmare.
Lopes possibly out on loan if we make signings
Just read that https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/01/08/report-sunderland-want-wigan-athletics-will-grigg/page/1/
Why would we send Grigg out on loan?
But you want Cook sacking! All that will do is lead to another complete overhaul and further lack of continuity. You can’t have it both ways.
Exactly. We want stability but we also want to change the manager again for the millionth time. The last manager to see out two full seasons was Martinez.
The point I’m making Vat is that whilst they may have slightly more money than the Whelan family did, in this day and age we are absolute paupers still. The Jewell side you speak of for example, £1.4m for Jason Roberts? He’d go for at least £10m now and be well out of our price range.
I think some of us have gotten a little carried away with this takeover and think we have been bought by Shiekh Mansour.
Yes the new guys have said there will be funds but I doubt that equates to the sums that the likes of Stoke have just thrown around or to be able to spend the sort of budgets a Mark Hughes or David Moyes would want let alone the transfer budget they would then want. That’s why I ask who people want to replace Cook and so far it has all been pipe dream material.
Our record transfer fee even in the PL days was £6m and I don’t see that being topped anytime soon, but I do think we will be able to sign players at 3 or 4 mill as opposed to the standard 1 or 2. I honestly can’t see them using their own fortunes and IEC itself doesn’t seem to be mega rich but they could help us generate more income to help the club than previously.
They have also mentioned relying on youth so I do think the likes of Lang will get a chance but it will be next season after we stay up this season.

Everyone would want him sold after 3 games without a goal anyway.
I’m warming to Naismith and would like to see him in a more forward role as he is a superb crosser of a ball.
Cook definitely wants McManaman just not in the same role you do and who knows how fit MacDonald is after his injury? Tough nowadays with no reserves.
Same old story as you say Stu
The squad isn’t good enough you’re right but we don’t have the finances that the clubs at this level have. Like many have said before, our 3rd choice striker cost £1m where some clubs at this level spend around £10m on theirs. To add to that, Stoke have just spent £20m on 2 players. £20m isn’t even out budget let alone what we can spend on 2 players.
As for Gelhardt, I would love to see him given a go. Good enough – old enough as they say.
Great post and exactly what has been missing from the board recently.
I’ve no issues with Cook being filmed in Kiev as our season was over so he was on holiday. Had he been doing that last night then I’d have been a tad angry yes.
Until IEC tells us exactly how much money we have I’m not sure we have the money to tempt the likes of Hughes and Moyes which is why I’m skeptical about letting him go as I don’t see any realistic replacements that won’t be the same car crash we have had before.
I really can’t see that being true
