This is not as funny as some people make it out to be, indeed I feel it highlights a very important problem within the team. That is one of leadership.
Yes, we do have Boyce (as the longest serving team member) to fill the regular slot but who really is the Captain out there? Who motivates the team? Who has the bottle to encourage (bollock) fellow team members who are not pulling their weight? Who gets the team message from the club to the playing staff? Who has the charisma to lead, guide and motivate?
Oh! and who should decide who takes the feckin penalties instead of “I touched the ball first, it’s mine” attitude? The Captain/Leader should be the one.
Leadership
What has leadership got to do with taking a penalty? You either have the balls/ability to take one or you don’t. The captain telling you to take it even though you hate the pressure is hardly going to inspire you to hit the back of the net is it?
Let Scott Carson have a crack
I have it on good authority that this is where Griff watches football from
Some of us prefer this league to the Premier Greed is Good League. Couldn’t stand it in there.Uwe must be doing a sterling job in your eyes then? So why the wish to sack him?
a number of people are wiping the egg off their faces
You just have! :lol:I was sat there at all our recent draws, hoping and praying we would nab a winner, whilst at the same time hoping even more, that they wouldn’t do us late on.
How the hell can you say that if your team is winning by 40 points you are sat at the edge of your seat hoping you might see a full length of field try. I’m sorry Egg but your comparison is nothing short of a big load of horse dung.
Well I hadn’t, but go on then let’s run with it.
Where did I mention that I sit on the edge of my seat in a 40 point win? I openly stated that I hate those types of game as they bore me. The difference between those and the two games served up last week are that whilst I sit there bored and wishing I was in a million different places, there will be the odd piece of brilliance that will capture my attention. Sometimes it isn’t even from a Wigan player as there could be a consolation score that is sheer brilliance. Whilst the game as a contest is dull there are plenty of scores that will occasionally entertain even if some are a case of men v boys.
The two games last week were dreadful. There was nothing from us and nothing from either Brentford or Millwall. We could still be playing either game now and it would be 0-0.
What I’m getting at, is that IMO (which will obviously differ from 99.9% of people on here hence why it is pointless discussing) a poor game of rugby league will always better a poor game of football simply because you will always get that moment that grips you slightly.
I don’t like word ‘Fan’ as it is short for fanatic, and suggests someone who is fanatical in their support. Usually those who refer to themselves as ‘a fan’ are antyhing but fanatical in their support.Good point well made Sir
FWIW my opinion on the categorisations is as follows:
Follower – Doesn’t attend games or watch them on TV but checks the score in the paper the next day. Wouldn’t know a player if he tripped over him.
Fan – Attends the big games, finals etc but watches the rest on TV. First to criticise when things go wrong, first to celebrate when they go right.
Supporter – Attends 99% of home games and as many aways as possible. Watches/listens the games they can’t attend and keeps updated with ongoings at the club whenever possible.
Diehard – Would attend a match at midnight on the moon regardless of work, money, family etc
Nothing wrong with supporting (going to watch!) both teams but if your not enjoying it then why attend every game. That’s what a supporter does.
I didn’t exactly enjoy division 3 but I still went to every game I could and that was when I was about 10 and could quite easily have stayed home to “support” a Premier League team.
Yes I was bored to tears on Saturday and Tuesday but I’m already counting down the days to the Fulham game at which I’ll probably complain that I’m bored.
I don’t do LinkedIn.
Do you get annoying reminders about some guy’s blog?
5 or 6 competitive games a season is not my idea of VFM. I know lads who are warriors season ticket holders, but miss several home games because they will be over with after 15-20 mins.I’ll admit I hate those type of games but no matter how bored I am at these I’ve never been as bored as I was on Saturday and Tuesday. The fact that I don’t recall the only “highlight” shown on Sky Sports from the Brentford game has led me to believe that I did indeed fall asleep.
Games against the lower sides in rugby league at least normally have the odd full length try or cracking team try to wake you up. Saturday and Tuesday had fuck all.
I’m not turning this into a rugby v football debate because there’s no point, but I’m pretty sure I’d have had more enjoyment from a chess match than our last two games at home and that is the problem that we have at the minute. We have next to no creativity whatsoever.
by gum griff that statement should ruffle some feathers
So what? I’ve said it for years – the people that get on my paps are the sniping, sneering cynical ones who have a list of things they are happy to chuck shit at but have no sensible solutions of their own to offer. They go silent when things are going well but trip over the keyboard desperate to log on at 5 o’clock on a Saturday when we have lost. They are generally the people who I fall out with on this forum. Sorry, I obviosly mean they are generally the ones I don’t allow to have an opinion.
I am one of those accused of blind faith in the club but it’s simply not true. I try to look for the positives, give the benefit of the doubt but I will criticise when I think it’s due.
And Phil is by no means the worst of this ilk, so I’m not purely having a dig at him. I fact, I know he does a lot of it for devilment.
Made worse by the fact that usually they haven’t been
I bet that does Taylor’s confidence the World of good or is he injured? Had 3 decent games on the trot has that lad!
Never mind Taylor, how bad must that Garcia lad be?
He’s on a season long loan to Tenerife
Sent him back I believe
He’s only gone and played 4-4-2 and we’ve still created f*ck all!!
Not really considering this is a much tougher league.
Apples and Oranges and all that.
