Did Perkins and Flores sign the new deals they were offered? That may be 2 more gone from our squad if not. On top of that if we can offload the likes of Odelusi and McKay plus one or two others we have room to bring in a couple of new signings without having to lose any of our better players although I’ve no doubt some will want to move on.

For me the squad is bloated & uneven – only 1 (unfit) right back), 2 unfit left backs, only 1 wide player, too many midfielders, 1 senior keeper & some who aren’t good enough (McKay, Whitehead, Odelusi etc..) so there is room for improvement even if the spine of the squad appears strong).

For me if the likes of Odelusi, McKay & Whitehead can be offloaded, they don’t need replacing purely in terms of numbers. Likewise it wouldn’t do any harm to trim some of the 1000 midfielders we have on our books & not replace them

With Coyle, Rostler, McKay, Caldwell & Joyce all failing in the role, the time had long-since come to appoint a new backroom team.

Good luck next season!

It’s a fallacy that it’s been the same backroom team since we got relegated from the prem. Coyle, Rosler, McKay & Joyce all brought their own back room staff in & binned off member of the old regimes to a lesser or greater extent.
It’s only really Barrow who has been an ever present & even he, by his own admission, was sidelined by some of them.
Atherton & Parky survived a few of them & Caldwell promoted from within but for most of the managers Atherton & Parky were reserve team coaches.

Why do you lot post on vital under different names than here?

Seems all the bellends that post on vital are the same bellends as on here.

These new dickheads running vital will ruin it,time everyone upsticks and stopped on ere.

Am I being classed as a bellend???? I’m honoured

Yet they were the divisions highest scorers at home.

Yep – top scorers at home & 2nd highest scorers in the division overall & the fella says their tactics didn’t work at home???? All because in 1 game they failed to register a shot on target.

I remember when Latics walked League 1 under Jewell – it was great stuff but we had the odd game like Port Vale & Plymouth at home where the opposition tactics worked in nullifying Latics & we lost 1-0 (possibly 2-1 against Vale).
It happens. From time to time a team will get its tactics spot on against you & you’ll lose. Just seems to me that this guy couldn’t hack the fact that a team as lowly as Crewe could dare to beat them.

However he then seems to give Cook no credit whatsoever for realising he needed to switch his tactics about & play a more high tempo style

Sharpe has just confirmed it on twitter apparently

At the begining of last season I would have put money on us finishing higher than them after they had struggled the previous season and we had come up as champions

I wouldn’t. I didn’t think Latics had strengthened enough or in all the right places.
Plus I was aware that they (Huddersfield) were spending a lot of money

and we shouldn’t be brainwashed into thinking all mass murders in the UK have been carried out by muslim terrorists. Hungerford, Dunblane and Whitehaven instantly spring to mind.

The difference is Mutley, Hungerford. Dunblane and Whitehaven were carried out by lone nutjobs. The nature of Islamic terrorism is that it’s about ideology and the sad fact is, is that it is estimated that between 15% and 25% of the worlds Muslims despise the west, so no need to panic.
And 75% of statistics are made up on the spot!!
I went on line to research the number, try it yourself Bongmon.
There’s 2 problems I have with your initial statement:
1) 15-25% is a hell of a wide ranging figure when you consider that there are 1.6 billion muslims in the world. 15% is 240million. 25% is 400 million. That’s 160million difference. I don’t trust any stat with that wide a margin of error
2) That figure comes from a journalist called Brigette Gabriel. Brigette Gabriel is a right wing journalist long known for her anti Islamic views. A basic rule of research is to look at the motives behind studies or those who contribute towards them. I’d taken figures she & her organisations produce with a massive pinch of salt
3) The figure of 15-25% is widely disputed. And a different organisation in the US claims that intelligence services rank it at 1%. Still 1% too many but I wouldn’t claim this figure as a fact any more than you should claim the 15-25% one as fact. Coz it isn’t – it’s the opinion of one organisation with an agenda

Bumped into Michael Brown in a hotel near Portsmouth. Nice bloke. Chatted for ten minutes about his time at Wigan.

Remembered my Michael Brown one.

At the start of the 07/08 season I’d just got back from honeymoon & took the missus on a romantic trip to Newcastle for our game up there.
Was in the Living Room toilets taking a leak & Michael Brown came in & we had a chat whilst pishing.

We didn’t cross streams

I’ve bumped into quite a few ex-Latics players whilst I’ve been refereeing:
Off the top of my head
Gary Powell (AFC Chester)
Darren Sheridan (Salford City)
Jason Jarrett (Salford City)
Ashcroft & Killer (Northwich Vic’s)
Stephen Appleton (some team in the Liverpool Business leagues)
Graham Lancashire (Burnley Academy)
David Lowe (Blackburn Academy)
Chris Hutchings (Market Drayton)
Colin Greenall (Lancashire FA)
John Filan (Getting his coaching time in at prescot Cables for his badges)
Brett Ormerod (Padiham)
There are loads of others knocking about at that level but exactly who escapes me

To put whether he’s good enough for Lge1, in 20 starts & 6 sub appearances for Oldham this season he scored the sum total of zero goals

Pearce should never have been allowed to go in the first place !

Not the only stupid decision by Mr Caldwell.

The Pearce, Morsy, Colclough and McCann situations were just four decisions that were baffling, and in hindsight went a long way in determining our fate.
Pearce got found out plenty of times in Lge1 & it was only Latics superiority up front against other teams couple with their poorer quality forwards as to why that wasn’t exploited. He’d have got slaughtered in the championship & it’s no coincidence that the club that came calling fro him was in that division & championship clubs weren’t beating a path to his door
Colclough didn’t look great in Lge1 for us & was a fringe player at best. Went on loan to MK Dons who, depsite struggling, used him sparingly. Came back & bar the odd flash of promise wasn’t much kop
McCann was offered a deal. He turned it down for a lucrative deal to end his career in the US
The Morsy one yes was baffling bearing in mind his performances at Barnsley & when he first came back. But bearing in mind he had an alleged bust up by kicking off in the position that Caldwell said that he wanted him to play, it was hardly baffling that Caldwell tried to shove him out of the door. It must also be borne in mind that despite his faults Joyce got the best out of Morsy by playing him in an advances role, then moved him back & his form suffered. Barrow pretty much dropped him

So personally I don’t think any of the decisions were baffling & in my opinion I think only Morsy could have had a positive impact when you think that it was McCann’s decision to go

I have asked my contact (who knows his family) who is going to do a bit of digging to see if there’s any legs in this story.

Personally, I get the feeling that with their takeover imminent & his contract due up next year that he’s using us as a bargaining chip to get a better deal & more funds. I believe that the takeover deal is due to get the nod or knock back this week so I guess we’ll see

in reply to: Kaiyne River Woolery #158992

You could also look at it & say that if the loan players brought in were so bad, how poor must the blokes we loaned out be??

In all honesty we don’t know, but the manager who brought him in wouldn’t play him & neither did the bloke who replaced him. Now admittedly they were both sacked so you can question their judgement but I think Woolery belongs in the group of players that Sharpe says he didn’t want to bring in

in reply to: Kaiyne River Woolery #158989

He wasn’t playing in the FA Cup Final, he was playing conference football.
Playing a good game at that level doesn’t mean he should have been given a chance in the Championship
