You can get 40/1 on Paul Scharner being appointed at Coral’s !!!!!!!!!

And bet fred have Sandy Stewart, Graham barrow, Dave Jones, Karl Robinson & Phil Neville as low as 12-14/1!!!

I don’t think Coyle being a former Bolton manager had much to do with the stick he received – his performance there possibly, but not just purely coz he was their manager. It certainly wasn’t for me nor any of the Latics fans I know.
That’s not to say the words “Bolton b*****d” have never been uttered amongst us, coz they have but only coz its a handy form of abuse. If he’d made his name at Liverpool we’d have called him a Scouse c***
He took over in tricky circumstances & (on paper) looked to have created a squad capable of challenging for promotion in this division but he got stick because it was blatantly clear he wasn’t up to the job – his team selections were bizarre, where he had players playing at times was odd, the tactics he was using seemed archaic, performances were poor & getting worse and then rumours start to emerge that he had lost the dressing room within a couple of months of the season starting even amongst players he signed

I think we’ll lose tomorrow coz it’ll be difficult for Barrow & Stewart to either change systems or change tactics within the matter of a couple of days. If they try a complete change of system & tactic its unlikely the players would have got the handle on them so quickly

I don’t think that he’s been being arrogant, I just think that he is trying to sell himself as a manager to other clubs.
I read one interview where he does mention being manager at United for the last 5 years in all but name, but in the same interview he also hints that he feels he is getting overlooked for some jobs coz he got institutionalised at United & he was just Ferguson’s helper – I think his “manager” comment was more a case of him trying to say he did a lot more at United than just do what Ferguson told him to do in the hope that someone will take a gamble on him

Give me a break pal !!! Have you tried to sort out the Middle East ?

It’s all your fault in the first place!!!

In answer to my own question, a quick search shows that if 2 or more teams are level on points they use the following criteria:
    1) points obtained in games between the teams in question
    2) goal difference from games between then teams in question
    3) number of goals scored by each side in games between the teams in question
    4) goals scored away from home in games between the sides in question

So basically Latics need to win & Zulte need to lose at home against an already qualified Rubin Kazan
    Not looking good!!

Couple that with a draw in iur game tonight & that sets up the game in Maribor nicely!!

Now if you decide to go independently by car or train it may be a different matter.

I’ve been several times independently. Got the tube from Whitechapel to Surrey Quays & walked to the ground (takes about 15 minutes) – once we were even brave enough to go in the pub nearest the tube stop.
Both the estate you walk through & that pub were absolute dives but never got a hint of trouble even in that play off game
After the game, the police escort you all the way back to surrey quays but there were never any groups of millwall hanging about trying to kick off
No doubt other supporters may have had different experiences but I’d have no hesitation gettin the tube there again

    Thanks for your reply Jayt
I wasn’t attempting to have a go at the supporters club or you by the way.
I know the supporters club work damn hard to get as good a deal on all sorts of stuff for Latics fans as possible but it just isn’t for me & I don’t want to join it.
I also know that the club have taken it round quite a bit but I don’t live or work in Wigan & so am not able to be a frequent visitor to the DW or Tesco in town, tickets for the players dinner were very limted & I couldn’t get tickets, likewise the 2 events at Sharpy’s and being 38 am not at any of the schools they’ve taken it to & I think it takes me past eligibility for the youth zone too!!! ;) ;)

My proposal is just for a club organised event on an advertised date where you don’t have to be a member of anything, season ticket holder or whatever & for a fee you can book a slot to turn up & have your picture taken with it (a club organised photo or one organised yourself) – with all proceeds going to charity.

I’ll post this on that SLO link too if you want me to

Members of the Supporters Club will get more opportunities, for those that go into the bar, they will know as I announced when the next time will be.

jay – I was gonna contact the club before this post started, but as you’re this fans liason officer I’ll put it through you instead albeit with a bit of a different twist following your post than how I would have said it to the club.
Whilst the club are obviously open to the idea of more photo opportunities as you have pointed out, I would hope that these are not all going to be tied in to being a member of the supporters club.
There are plenty of Latics fans who for whatever reason can’t or don’t want to be members of the supporters club & I feel they should be given the chance to have their photo taken with the Cup without having to join supporters club
I don’t have an objection to the supporters club using the cup as an oppportunity to raise funds but I just think that those who don’t want to give money to the supporters club should be given an opportunity too
My suggestion to the club was actually going to be to charge a fee & donate the proceeds to the Youth Zone or Joseph’s Goal or something

in reply to: Wigan v Brighton #123606

    Don’t think it will be
He seems to have his favourite league line up sorted so I would expect to see:
    Rogne instead of Shotton
    Watson instead of McArthur &
    McManaman instead of McLean
    Fortune instead of Holt

That line up also sees all bar one of the players involved with internationals rested ahead of the Zulte game next Thursday & I think that player (Powell) will be rested for that one instead

I have been asked by a friend, who is contemplating taking his wife and two kids on the coach ( he can’t afford the plane) will the NO ALCOHOL rule be strictly adhered to? and will it be a Family type coach like the Travel Club coaches to away games? as he doesn’t want to spend 24 hours on a coach with people drinking, and effing and blinding all the time?

    What a mard arse! ;)[/quote]

To be fair, I went to sleep on the floor of the coach on said Sweden trip & when i woke up in the morning it was like I’d acted as a sponge for every half-drunk can of lager everyone had knocked over in the night.
Within 10 minutes of the start of the second day of the journey some Bradford City fan was hurling up in the bottom of the freezer bag (well my mum’s) that I’d brought my beers from England in (thankfully all drunk by that point)
So I can see why he might be concerned!!

I think this birthday thing was supposed to be a surprise, but you’re not the first to tell me….. I actually don’t know what she has organised, but I hope it involves lot of wine

    Ooops
I can’t tell you what it involves but I can tell you the location – best not though, to save it from becoming like one of these teens parties one of their mates has stuck up on facebook & gets gatecrashed

I’m just gutted that my raft thing only runs in the summer

in reply to: Maribor deals #123584

Not knocking the trip & I can see that it now gives planeaphobes (??) & those for who flights are now a bit too pricey but I’m one of them people who would have to be paid to go on a coach there.
Went watching England play in Gothenburg back in 1998 on a 5 day round coach trip (stopping off in Copenhagen on the way there & Hamburg on the way back). Comparatively dirt cheap & had a laugh at times but it felt like the journey would never end.
Mind you I think driving from St Helens to Tuscany & back this summer with a non-driving wife, 2 kids & a car crammed to bursting with cases & other holiday paraphernalia has put me off long distance driving for life!!

Oh & I assume that you’re the Jason who Joanne was referring to who is having a birthday bash whilst he’s over there!!

I remember that! We were on the M6 when we heard it on the radio.

I’m sure we went to another game – but can’t for the life of me remember what.

Was that the Boxing Day game around 1993/1994?
I remember everywhere being frozen solid up Bongs way & me phoning up Crewe several times prior to setting off to check it was still on & being told there was no chance it would get called off so me, my dad & my mate set off.
Got to the ground to be met by loads of people coming the other way & telling us it was off.

In a sign of how times have changed, for some reason my dad took a mainly non-motorway route home & we were stuck for ages behind a freight rover minibus cram packed full of people. It slammed on outside a chippy & out piled Alan Johnson & the rest of the team.
Can’t imagine today’s Latics taking too kindly to being ferried to local away games in one of the worst minibuses ever made. Probably had to pay for their own chips too

On a purely willy waving tip, I remember going to Hereford away in Sept 1994 for the first game after Graham Barrow had been appointed manager. Got stuck in horrible motorway traffic, was half an hour late & had to pay in the club shop to get in. Hereford took the lead as me & my mate were being walked round the pitch to the away end & my memory tells me that there weren’t more than about 20-30 people there. Surely that deserves some kind of commemorative t-shirt more than nipping round the corner to watch a home game?? ;) ;)

Rather them than me on a coach trip all the way over there
